Closest to the original that we have found.
We are as happy as we can be (with the new versions) with this Slinky. Read all the other reviews on all sizes, and this one is the closest to the original one we had as kids. (Not exactly GIANT, probably closer to the original). It will walk down stairs with some encouragement...not as easily as the ones from 50 years ago, but from my research, it appears as tho the length was shortened some years ago making the "walk" on normal stairs less successful. The kids are happy, so we are happy.

This is the slinky that walks down stairs alone or in pairs
Thanks to a couple of the other reviews, I've finally found the slinky of old. The Giant Slinky is, in fact, the original slinky. It's made of metal, about 4 inches wide, and really makes that "slinkety sound".I don't think it's as "long" as it was way back when. You can't set it at the top of the stairs and just push it over and watch it walk. You set it on top, and pull about the top half down to the middle of the next step. After that gravity does it's job and it slinks down the stairs. It's awesome and entrancing for any age group.

It works really well, just like I remember when I was a kid
I bought this for my 6-year-old grandson and he LOVED it. We played with it on the stairs for over an hour, then had to try it on the shelves, our hands, the kitchen floor and anywhere else he could think of. He giggled and giggled and giggled. Okay, we both did. It works really well, just like I remember when I was a kid. I've tried the smaller ones, but they have been disappointing so I'm super happy with this one and with the hours of fun it will provide. I love toys that spark a kid's imagination and creativity.

Cost-engineered by new owners, but it does work
YES, I was able to make this go down the stairs. Treads are 10" deep and 7.5" high. It took a bit of effort and many tries ... but it DID work. The Slinky itself looks a bit 'ratty' and the box was in worse shape. Someone getting it as a gift would think it was used. The box looks like it was designed for a MUCH larger Slinky lying lengthwise, but when you open the box, the actual Slinky is 'upright.' Kinda deceptive. But I am fine with it.

Good slinky and works great.
I used this slinky on a bird feeder to keep the squares away. So far it is working. I saw a video on Facebook and decided to try it. The feeder is on a tall pole. I fixed the slinky at the top of the pole and let it hang down around the pole. The squirrel tried to climb the pole as usual but was unable to climb it. It really scared him and he ran away. He tried one more time and to my knowledge, has not returned.

More like Giant Metal Disappointment Spring
Oh, how I wanted to be impressed. Oh, how my son and husband wanted to be impressed. This thing handles a carpeted staircase with the finesse of an adult Great Dane that's never seen stairs before. It did a great job of, "sit and stay," but it didn't do so good with any other tricks. So my son decided it would make a wonderful, metal, spiral jump-rope, and that lasted for a couple of large arm motions and jumps and now Slinky is junk. Amazing. It's been like 30 years since I've played with one of these and they still aren't fun, my lack of nostalgia wasn't a memory gap after all! Kuddos to whoever has put so much effort into keeping this utterly useless, disappointing, smelly, over-priced product alive for so long under a major name brand without making a single, solitary improvement in favor of the, "toy," or the people playing with the, "toy." At least you can kick a tin can down the street. If you like to take a Slinky out of a box and just look at it sit there, I imagine this is a fantastic product for you. If you want to be The Disappointer at any major gifting event, then this is the product for you. If you like to waste your money, this is for you. If you want a toy, go buy something else! This is so pathetic it's not even a funny gag gift. Almost anyone would be happier with a card with the cash just tucked inside. When it comes to Slinky, it is not the thought that counts - you can't stretch intent far enough to cover for what Slinky can't compensate for.

My 3-year old loved it
Will buy another one soon though as she tied the first one in a knot and now it isn't as slinky. So much fun for kids though. Can't see why others are complaining about these "not being giant". They are full-sized sliky's! They probably are remembering from their perspective as children. If your hands are small like most kids hands are, these slinky's are almost too big. As an adult it is just right.

Close to original! As a toy!
I was pleasantly surprised that it is close to what I remember from my Slinky in the eighties. It does walk down stairs—but you have to know how to do that. There was always a trick, you had to fling it a little further to get the inertia going! Duh—it’s not gonna go on it’s own with a slight push. I spent hours as a child figuring this out. And it was thrilling when it would get all the way. This is what I experienced with the “new” Slinky as well! Really happy with it!
