Gaffer tape is extremely versatile and useful
Gaffer tape doesn’t leave residue and can be used on just about any surface including glass and carpets. It is great for blacking out and hiding imperfections. This is the first time I used it and am really pleased with the product. I even used it for blacking out areas around windows. Excellent! 👌

Better in some ways than other gaffer tapes, not as good in other ways
In the field, for video and audio equipment as well as around the house, this is the fifth or sixth brand of gaffer tape I've used over the years, and it's different from the others. With this one the cotton cloth is not impregnated with a binder/filler material like all the others. That binder makes the other tapes stiffer, and those stiffer edges make it easier for the fingers and thumbs of your two hands to act like scissors to start a tear at the desired length. Precisely because it is more flexible, this tape requires a much stronger pinch between the index fingers and thumbs of each hand, with the two grips very close to each other, to start a tear. While the other tapes had matte finishes and weren't very reflective, they did have some shine. This tape is perfectly non-reflective, which can be important for professional applications in a darkened theater. The binder in the other tapes also makes it opaque, while this tape is has some transparency since it is just strong cotton cloth with the adhesive. You would only care about that if you were trying to block light with it. This tape is very strong, as strong as the others, with virtually no stretch to it. But its adhesion to surfaces is not as strong. For example, I have on hand a roll of ProGaf tape, also available on Amazon. This XFasten tape is easier to pull off the roll, and when I stick a piece of this and an similar piece of ProGaf to my file cabinet, the XFasten tape seems to need only about half as much force to peel it off. This may have more to do with the flexibility than the adhesive itself. With less flexibility the radius of curvature at the line where the tape is being pulled off is greater, so there is more surface area of adhesive stretching to resist removal. So, compared to the ProGaff tape, which is like the other I've used, here's the bottom line. This tape:1. Is much harder to tear by hand2. Has less adhesion to surfaces, but still enough, in my opinion, for most jobs.3. Would probably have even less adhesive transfer, when removing after a long time, than the others.4. Is much more flexible for following contours and corners5. Will be more invisible in a dark room.6. Would not good for blocking light.

Disappointed customer
I bought this item because it will not cause residue when removed like duck tape. I used it to repair a window covering for my minivan when we sleep inside the van. It is Reflectix and fabric on the other side. I originally used duck tape and it fell off after about 1 year so I decided to use Gaffer tape. It did not even last an hour and all the tape I used fell off. Maybe it’s not meant for the materials I used on but it worked for duck tape so I thought gaffer tape would work too. Very disappointed!

I have a new favorite tape!
I have to be honest in that I was a bit unsure what Gaffer tape actually was when I placed my order. I was hoping it would work for a couple of repair applications and figured I would take a chance on it since everything I have used to date didn't hold for very long, or held and ruined the surface of what it was taped to.I am happy to report that I love this tape! I appreciate that you can remove it without any damage done to the surface it was sticking to, but more importantly, it really does STICK to the surface as intended. I currently have one of those mobile air conditioners in my bedroom. The exhaust hose attaches to the back of the unit and then stretches as needed to reach the window to blow the hot air outside. I set up the attachment pieces that are supposed to hold the hose in the window. They are rather flimsy and do not stay in the window framework. It has cracked and there are gaps where hot air comes back into the bedroom.. I ended up trying to tape them together, which still wasn't the best, but better than it was to start with. My problem is the exhaust hose would keep slipping out of the window when the tape would get warmed from the sun.I tried this new gaffer tape on the exhaust portion and it is holding beautifully, even when the sun hits it! It was so nice that I removed the portions that I had originally installed in the window and redid them with this gaffer tape instead of the duct tape I had used previously. Today was another hot one, and I was cool and comfortable with the portable air conditioner running full blast and the exhaust hose is holding up in the window where I have it taped. Usually, when a tape holds as well as this one is holding, it is a big problem to try to remove it without destroying the surface where it was taped. This tape is extended onto a painted wall and comes off so very easily! I am really impressed.I am going to have to hide this tape from my renter. He has a really bad habit of getting into my things to "borrow" them for a bit. I don't want him knowing about this tape or mine will be gone forever.I am sure I am going to be turning to this tape for more and more projects, and have nothing but positive to say about it.
