Back to Basics
I owned this book a few years ago and sold it on Amazon. I currently have a Charles Reid DVD and have watched it more than once. This DVD stirred my appreciation for him all over again, so went looking for his books on Amazon. His lesson on contour drawing in this book is so good. All persons who strive to be better artists should practice this method. I learned contour drawing many years ago using Nicolaide's "The Natural Way to Draw". It is a basic method that is sure to improve anyone's art. With Reid, he carries the philosophy of contour drawing into his use of the paint brush, not lifting it up and I think this is what makes his technique so individual and it is unique. I won't sell this book now that I have it again. If for no other reason I really like that early chapter on contour technique.

The book is a workshop on how to draw interior and exterior details of your shapes an effort to make your work come together. This book is mostly a drawing book with a specific technique--very little on painting. Think the title is misleading. Kind of one dimensional if you ask me-threw me off any other titles by the author. On a positive note, if you have a chance to thumb through it and like what it has to offer it could be of good value. I'm always in favor of technique books in workshop form

I love just looking at this book!
I am a fan of Charles Reid and even though this is an old book, it is as relevant as any of his newer ones. It came in PERFECT condition, but I dropped it right after taking it from the package and dented the edge of the back cover. Good grief. Watercolor painting is best taught up close and personal, not from a book - but like I said, I’m a fan of his style. Also I couldn’t have purchased a paperback for the price I paid. I feel very lucky to have this.

I have most of his books, and wanted to add this one to my collection. It is in good condition and I'm thrilled to have it.

Happy Customer!!
This "like new" copy is EXCELLENT -- no marks or turned-down pages anywhere! The service was super-speedy, as well. I bought this book because I really like Charles Reid's loose watercolor style. Since Charles Reid recently passed away, I want to learn as much as I can from his books.

Another good title by Charles Reid
Really admire Charles Reid's work and enjoy his books a lot. Hope I'll be able to fully grasp his techniques one of these days. I'm coming to this book quite late, but I'm glad I found it.

Not the best of what this artist has to offer
The art-work pictured is basically good but the printing and quality of the paper is not the best and lets his work down. He is a good, interesting artist but not good at writing about what and how he does it.

This is one of the best books among Charles reid series as it offers unique pointers that will surely help improve your standards. Every book by charles reid complements each other in the sense build upon each one's in terms of knowledge but at the same time stands alone from his other books.
