It looks like appliance rather than a trashcan. It is so convenient, too. The extra products, the deodorizer and special bags are an extravagance but make life so much simpler. It's hard to believe but I've actually invited friends over to see the new addition to my kitchen --- it's gotten rave reviews! The lid opening is beyond smooth. Having a place for both trash and recyclables is handy. The price is high but I'm worth it and I'm confident that the quality and sturdiness of the product makes it likely to last for a very long time.

It’s expensive, but it’s so worth it. I looked for a trash can for legit months. This trashcan was by far the nicest looking, and well built one I’ve found. Simplehuman makes really nice stuff. It comes with a warranty, and they also sell replacement parts. It’s very well built and great quality. Over a year now and through a move it looks new. I Ended up buying a second one for recycling too.Edit: About 2 years and the trash can still look and functions like new. Still looks great

I replaced my cheaper dual compartment trash/recycling can with this and I am very happy with it. The foot pedal is very sturdy, the compartments are of good size, and I appreciate the deodorizer. The trashbag dispenser is also convenient. It is expensive, but used so often. I recommend this trash can to anyone hesitant. Yes, cheaper ones can do the job, but I believe this trash can is worth the price because it seems durable and even somewhat luxurious.

I purchased the dual trash/recycle can, 16 gallons. It arrived in perfect condition and was wrapped excellently. I’ve only had it for a week, and I would prefer to give a review in six months after I actually have time to use it, but as a one week review I can tell you this – I suggest purchasing the bags that were made to fit the bins, as they are Square shaped instead of rectangular. If you use store-bought bags, you’ll have to work to fit the top edge of the bag down around the rim of the liner bin. Secondly, because the circumference of the inside bin is square you must make sure your items get in the bag – don’t toss them in because you might miss the bag. I don’t care for the back compartment for the bags as it is kind of a pain in the neck to get to, but it’s not the end of the world. These bins don’t hold as much as my old simple human can, therefore, I am changing my trash much more frequently. Heads up – there is no liner bin for the trash side of the can - there is only a removable bin for the recycling items. We fill our recycling items quickly, and even though we crush them down it really fills fast. This blue liner bin has a nice handle to help lift itself out of the can, and it washes easily. The foot pedal is nice and long so you don’t have to stand directly in front of the can too push on it with your foot. It closes so softly (which I’m not used to) that you don’t hear it and I keep catching myself turning back to see if it actually closed. Makes me feel foolish! I do suggest keeping the can an inch or two away from the wall. I tried flush against the wall but then the lid doesn’t automatically close every time. The finish on the outside of the can is very nice and so far I have had no smudges.Other than the individual bins not holding as much refuse than my old trash can I have no complaints – and that is not really a complaint because the size was stated in the description.It looks sharp, works as described, I think it’s a little pricey, but if it lasts as long as my old one (nine years and still going) then it’s worth every penny. I would definitely recommend this far. We will see what happens in six weeks, six months, or longer.

Love having the recycling on one side and garbage on the other. Saves me time going outside to the recycling bin every day - just when I need to empty it. While the garbage side is small, it suits our needs. I would recommend this, even though it is pricey. I would also get the garbage bags that fit - very strong, they do hold a lot. I like the smaller size.

I never thought that people would bother to notice a trash can, but I've been pleasantly surprised to find that guests regularly go out of their way to compliment me on my beautiful trash can! Everything about the design is smooth and streamlined. The bags slide so easily into the liner pocket, and they smartly fold the first bag in each pack so that it can pull through easily. The stainless steel truly is fingerprint proof, and though the inside is plastic, it's a very solid, heavy duty plastic. Someone else commented that the lid takes forever to close. I didn't find this to be the case at all. It swings down fairly quickly, and then the damper stops it just before it closes making it perfectly silent. In fact, when I first got it, I found myself looking back to see if it actually closed, it was so quiet. Another comment claimed that the step pedal was also made of plastic, which isn't true. The top is made of the same stainless steel as the rest of the can, while only the bottom of the pedal is made of the same heavy duty plastic.The capacity is my favorite part of this can. Before, my husband and I would constantly overfill our old can, pushing the garbage down, determined to find the space for just one more piece of trash until one of us broke, and finally changed the bag. Then, when one of us finally did, getting the ill fitting bag out was impossible to do without shaking it, spilling trash out on to the floor. That NEVER HAPPENS with this can!! We can go up to around 4 or 5 days without having to change the bag, and when the time comes, the bag comes out so effortlessly. Plus, having the liners right there inside the can means we're no longer arguing about who has to change out the bag! I know the matching liners are more expensive, but when you only have to change them out 2 or 3 times a week, a pack of 60 can last you 3-4 months! I was delighted to find out that they carry the bags at my local bed, bath & beyond, so I can always save by using one of the many 20% off coupons I receive in the mail. I should also mention that I was tempted to purchase one of the simplehuman odor filters, but I thought it would be an awkward fit on a lid that so frequently goes up and down. I find that a filter is totally unnecessary as the lid fits so seamlessly, it truly does keep out all of the odors.It is quite an investment, but if you deal with trash issues like a consistently overfull can, or a husband that hates changing out the liners, this trash can will truly change your life!
