The Sirtfood Diet

Needs a re-write and warnings for people with medical conditions
So this diet lived up to its promise by helping me lose weight after 7 days. I have a very stubborn body when it comes to losing weight. My primary concern was the expense of this diet. You need access to a good market and a personal chef. I cooked 2-4 hours a day to maintain the diet and refused to purchase a juicer. I used a Vitamix and a chinois which worked fine. When it comes to my health, I have read many books and have found things here and there that help. I also have worked in the medical field and I am able to read and understand scientific journals related to the Sirtfood Diet. Therefore I make the following recommendations before starting this diet:1. Do not buy this book if you are on blood thinners like Cumadin. The diet could shut your kidneys down.2. Kale has Oxalic Acid which can inflame you intestinal tract - another studyI read stated sirtuins are more easily released if kale is lightly blanched in hot water ( I recommend pouring 2c boiling water it over the leaves in a colander) this greatly helped my stomach pain. See Bullet proof diet for more info.3. Don't buy if you don't know how to cook very well. This book left lots of general information out like seasoning and the recipes aren't organized. I cook all of the time and got confused. I had to doctor most of the recipes to make them edible. The salads are fabulous though.4. Use fresh Turmeric instead of powdered. The use of turmeric in most recipes makes them inedible. I found putting 1" of fresh in the Green Drink was much more palatable.5. Many of the recipes contain foods that cause inflammation, primarily Lectins in soy and beans. See Plant Paradox. For the readers of this I also found that mustard greens and water cress are also good if you need a break.I will probably continue some of the habits but this diet, but other than increasing the intake of these foods, you need deep pockets to maintain and a lot of free time.

Lost weight, but......
I did the full 21 days on this diet. I lost a total of 20 lbs. My partner, who only ate the dinners so that we werent making 2 dinners at night, also lost about 10 lbs. He stuck to his normal morning fasting and coffee with a late lunch light snack.Pros.-I definitely feel healthier and have more energy.- The meals are big enough that I never felt hungry after eating.- We are making some of these our new regular habits in our home.Cons- So expensive to do. About $150 a week in food costs.- Had to order many things on Amazon because we cant find it here in our tiny Port town. Many things only come in ridiculous large amounts. So $20 for something you may only need a quarter of.- I wish they had alternative names for the foods. For example fresh coriander is commonly known as cilantro. Red endive is also called Radicchio.- Recipes within recipes suck. Make the dough. Make the sauce. Now make the pizza. This multi recipe within recipes thing definitely made eating early not even an option for some days. We had to start chopping and prepping by 3pm to eat before 7pm. Rediculious and not realistic for full time working people. I had help. My partners kid helped by cutting things while we were at work.In the end we are continuing with our own take on this diet for a few more months. The weight loss is very encouraging for sure. I have really enjoyed the menu.Tip. Get a meal planner. It helps a ton

Diet idea is great, but the recipes....not so much.
I liked the science of the Sirt Foods, and the way it was presented but the recipes are terrible for veggies like me. I am on Day 4 and I'm starving! The green juice is the best item I've had so far. Someone needs to create a Sirtfood recipe book with great recipes for vegetarians and vegans. I bought two kindle books on sirtfood recipes but their menu choices aren't that great either for vegetarians. I already eat a lot of the Sirt foods, but not every day do I want to consume curry or tumeric based foods with very little veggies.I will say I have lost almost 5 lbs in 4 days, but if I stop now will it all come back? Probably. I'm going to try to make it through the next 3 days without starving or passing out from too restricted a diet, but I don't think I can make it through the 14 day maintenance plan with these recipes. If I had great recipes this would be awesome, but alas as usual vegetarians don't get that in most diet books.

Works. Easy to follow and read
Husband and I followed this and we lost the 7 pounds in 7 days. The amount of food one can eat is enormous. The first 4 days will take getting used to. Easy recipes and can be prepared beforehand. You will need a juicer. The only thing is we found this to be time consuming and very expensive because you have to use so much fruit and veggies to get at least one cup of green juice. And the green juice is clearly the key to this diet.Because the moment we stopped drinking the green juice we stopped losing weight. I would say we both need to loose about 10 to 15 pounds. So not sure about if you need to loose more or less. If you have the time and money this is a great way to loose weight. Hey if it is goo=d enough for Adéle it is good for me.

NOT FOR ME: No substitutions at all - Kale makes me gag I found out :*(
I began the diet for nutritional balance - to get back to keto and IF. The kale juice was awful. Drank it and could not even look at the disgusting veg for the day. There is NO substitutions. NONE. A bit restrictive yes. I am now doing just the SIRT foods meals and when it calls for Kale I lightly cook in ghee, with the other items. I have to get rid of the stuff. Cannot wait to get back to keto/IF

👍🏻👍🏻 The Book AND the Program
The book is well written and the program is easy to follow. Authors provide a 3 week menu with recipes and every meal is delicious. My husband and I feel amazing and have both experienced weight loss. Be prepared: you will be shopping and preparing foods daily, this is time consuming but SO worth it and covid “work from home” has allowed us the home time to prep. Having said that it should be noted that all meals come together within minutes. Fuel your body with the good stuff and your body will reward you. We are huge fans of this (mostly) plant based eating and recommend the book, menu and lifestyle.

Haven’t even started and already exhausted
While I was all excited and made the 50+ item grocery list for the first week, I was exhausted after 3 hrs of grocery shopping and not even half the list filled. If I’m having that much trouble finding Ingredients, this is not something I’m interested in pursuing. Taking the step to start something like this is hard enough, then to start off with frustration and exhaustion in just finding the ingredients is not a positive way to go. Think I’ll head over to Keto where the ingredients are readily available.
