Accidentally perfect
As a lot of folks do, I did not get this for a water bottle, I actually got this to house an Icom IC-705 radio. I quickly learned I odered the incorrect size but I tried a few things and this actually fits my Chameleon LEFS 8010 antenna, 50 ft of micro 90 cord, 33 ft of RG 174 coax, and a 12 oz throw weight near perfectly. As far as build quality and quality control, this is far above average.

A very TIGHT 4 inches inside
Pros:Solid constructionLots of MolleThe D-Rings and hook seem tough and durableConns:They are not kidding when they say 4 inches (explained below)Using the zipper for the water bottle holding area is like prying alligator jaws loose. If you have a round bottom cooking cup then take a measuring tape out and check the diameter before purchase. This pack promises to hold a 10" x 4" water bottle. It does not mention it will hold said bottle in a deathgrip however. The internals of the pack are closer to 9.75" x 3.80" which is due to the insulation. For a plastic nalgene water bottle that should be fine if a tight fit. If you try to slip a stainless steel cooking cup into the bottom of this thing ye--no. Bring some grease and a set of looooong needle-nose pliers.I bought this expecting to have room for a my old Coleman Camping Cup, Stanley Camp Cook Set and a Guyot Designs Backpacker Stainless Steel Bottle, 32-Ounce. Vertically, I'd measured these three items when stacked and had an inch to spare--after modifying the Stanley cookpots handle for easier removal its lid would sit on the bottom, the handle would hitch atop it affixed with a ranger band to side of the cooking cup. Then the Stanley cookpot nested in the cup and the guyot full of water on top. I usually keep these three items packed together anyway. Before purchasing this bottle holder I also measured the widest item in my cookset: The cup measured exactly 4 inches diameter. So I'm good, right? Well, we'll get back to that in a minute. The first thing I noticed was how resilient the zipper is...and how doggedly it wants to hold its packaged shape. These are the same zippers you'll find on a Maxped Barnacle and other small packs. They're not thick military style zippers with big teeth that'll take off a chunk of skin if your hand gets in the way in testament to their toughness. They're the tiny little safety zippers. But they definitely--defiantly--grip in this pack. The rounded design might work in a soft pack or a zipper setup with which has 2 separate zips. This only has 1 zip so you have to do almost a full 360 to get the top open. To be more accurate, you have to do three 90 degree turns because this thing out of the box demands that it be square and remains that way even with something round inside. This might soften up after use but...lets get back to those 3.80 inches of tough insulated Maxped gear. When I received the water bottle holder, even with the Stanley's handle removed from the equation, the cooking cup won't go in without a fight. Getting fingers around the cup to pull it out is equally impossible. I had to shove it out from the bottom which hitches onto that square zipper which in turn means I'm pounding on the bottom of the bag if I want a cup o soup with my coffee. For a water bottle that is 10" x 4" so you can drag it out from the top, this thing will be a snug fit; possibly preferable if that is all you will use this holder for as it will NEVER EVER jangle around in this tight space. That's why it gets an extra star and an "okay" rating. It would work as advertised.Just don't try to get anything squeezed in underneath that bottle if you do. Modular placement of items will not work unless yours are smaller than advertised. The reason I make such a big point of this: I consider this a failing in the design since Almost all the cooking cups I've seen others use are the same 4 inch diameter as my old Coleman. My dad's GSI is exactly the same and I think my girlfriends Ozark Trail cup is a hair wider! They sell a 12x5 version which should adequately suit my needs, so I'll be eating the $7 for return shipping and get most of my money back. I'll be doing some serious looking at other packs though. I bought the hype on this one because I liked my Barnacle enough to just now buy another. But their bigger packs need better zipper design than the barnacle, not worse. And the internals are...comeon. A cooking cup is pretty standard quality control. If you quote a 4" diameter inside, make sure things'll fit!

Fits a Jetboil flash !
Although a snug fit, I use this for my Jetboil flash. I made a knotted para cord loop and ran through the bottom weep hole to assist removal. You can also pack two cans(100mg) of fuel as well. One inside canister and one on top. Materials are great, construction is above expectations. Well worth the purchase price!!

Zipper on top is a pain
It's a nice size. Fits a standard 1L Camelback Eddy or 1L Nalgene bottle well, but not the rarer tall 1L Camelback bottle. It is made of very heavy material... Almost a little too stiff and heavy. Hard to manipulate... and the zipper action at the top... Bad! Very bad. The material is stiff and the zipper catches and is a major pain. Not smooth and barely manageable. The side pocket is nice. Overall it will work and likely hold up, but it's not great. The top zipper needs a redesign badly! It has MOLLE webbing, an additional pocket, a back clip, and D-rings for a strap. The zipper can be a pain. This is better as a stand-alone detachable bottle holder with a shoulder strap and few accessories for a short walk and will also attach to a pack well with some additional straps. (note: it will fit a 1L Nalgene and 1L Camelback Eddy (snugly) but won't fit the rarer taller, thinner 1L Camelback well.It compares with Camelback's Bottle Holder....This is a really nice, basic bottle holder. It will fit a 1L Camelback bottle (Both the Eddy and the taller one). It will also fit a 1L Nalgene narrow or fatmouth bottle. It's a simple slip in with MOLLE on the back, with snaps for immediate connecting to something else. There is no strap holder. The zipper works great. The material/padding is thick but not stiff. It's probably ideal for attaching to a pack as an add on.See pics for a side by side comparison of all....Depends on what you are going for. Also check out Condor's bottle holder for one that is a cross between both.

Recomendable 100%

its okay.
got this for a day kit for walks. it is nice quality but not quite as I expected. the material under the molle straps appears to curl a bit and the Velcro on the top and front pocket doesn't have much use apart from a morale patch? didn't come with a shoulder strap when its that expensive. to get a maxpedition strap that matches, with a pad, would add a lot more cost on to it. the front pocket isn't as useful as you think because when you have a stainless steel water bottle in there the curve of it fills most of the pocket. I probably could have just got a far cheaper version. I was going to score 3 stars but I gave it 4 because the material might stretch over time reducing the curling and I might eventually find a use for the Velcro.
