Great Easy Listening Music!
Percy Faith rose to fame with a version of a Summer Place, he has recorded dozens of easy listening music, most feature a chorus with strings. He was born in Toronto but moved to the United States and started with violin and changed to piano. This is a compilation of 2 albums, the first is Angel of the Morning, my favorites are 2 Bacharach hits, Do You Know the Way to San Jose (Dionne Warwick) and This Guys in Love with You. Elvira' s theme includes a very tasty harpsichord solo. Also nicely done are 2 Simon and Garfunkel tunes, Mrs. Robinson and Scarborough Fair. Black Magic Woman is the second album included, it was produced by Richard Perry who produced some of Barbara Streisand albums, It is a bit more contemporary in music selections. I was interested in how Faith arranged some of the Latin Rock hits, Black Magic Woman, Viva Torado (Gerald Wilson) and Santana's Oye Como Va, Tito Puente was a bit worried when he heard that Santana was covering his song, but worries faded when he got his royalty checks. An unnamed organist provides some great organ highlights. Also Jobim song Wave very nicely done. Never Can Say Goodbye - Jackson 5 is very peppy. Excellent music to listen to and very highly recommended.

"Composer/Arranger extraordinaire ~ Percy Faith"
During the late '60s and early '70s Maestro Percy Faith was churning out some of the best releases with top notch arrangements ~ thus enters the album at hand "Angel of the Morning/Black Magic Woman", featuring Faith's Orchestra and Chorus. Each song had an upbeat tone to it, with "DO YOU KNOW THE WAY TO SAN JOSE?" and the beautiful ballad "THIS GUY'S IN LOVE WITH YOU", both tunes from the composing team of Hal David and Burt Bacharach ~ you couldn't go anywhere in those days and not hear this being played on radio or the local jukebox. One of my favorite songs during that period was "MACARTHUR PARK", the great Jimmy Webb tune recorded by Richard Harris, but this song was destined for greater things, just sit back and listen to the strings and solo violin arrangement with the "Percy Faith Touch" that tugs at your heartstrings. Now we have something that only Percy Faith could tackle "BLACK MAGIC WOMAN", composed by Peter Green has all the elements that Mr. Faith was looking for, and what a workout the Faith Orchestra has in store for them, look at the result...pure satisfaction and then some ~ "IF", by David Gates is one of the most beautiful songs ever written, Percy's arrangement comes from the heart and weaves a magic spell over the listener ~ "REZA (RAY-ZA)", once again the Latin flavor that comes to the surface of each album that Mr. Faith records, very stimulating performance ~ "VIVA TIRADO", listen to this cue and visualize a tribal ceremony being performed, has all the elements of an epic adventure ~ "WAVE", the most sort after composer during that decade was Antonio Carlos Jobim and Percy was always there to record his music whenever the time presented itself, and it is here and now ~ gotta love it!Total Time: 70:56 on 22 Tracks ~ Collectables 7488 ~ (1/19/2002)

Mix bag
Obviously these two CD's were top on their hay day. I purchased them at a very reasonably price but was somewhat dissaponted with the recording quality compared to today's superb progress on mixing techniques, audio's soundstage and clarity. No match. This set takes me down memory lane but quite frankly doesn't move me as it used to.

THE ANGEL MEETS A BLACK MAGIC WOMAN
This double album features the venerable orchestra conductor's versions of popular 70s hits. ANGEL OF THE MORNING offers some female choral voices while BLACK MAGIC WOMAN is purely instrumental and the more inventive collection.Faith retained his popularity by wisely keeping up with the times, never stagnating in a comfortable style or song selections.Best tracks: Jimmy Webb's MACARTHUR PARK; Santana's BLACK MAGIC WOMAN and OYE COMO VA; Joni Mitchell's BIG YELLOW TAXI; Bread's IF; VIVA TIRADO; and the Jacksons' NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE.A special thanks to Collectables for making these Faith albums available on CD.

Elvira's Theme のオリジナルはモーツアルト
Elvira's Theme のオリジナルはもちろんモーツアルトのピアノ協奏曲第21番の第2楽章の有名な曲。オリジナルの良さを損なわずに軽快なノリのよい曲になったと感じます。

イメージの違うパーシー・サウンドを聴いて下さい
Angel of the Morning
