But do be aware that it works best as a pass-through USB
This device worked as described. It allowed me to connect my Surface tablet to the Ethernet and get the faster speed Ethernet has over Wi-Fi. The USB also worked decently and as intended. But do be aware that it works best as a pass-through USB. If the USB device you are inserting needs a strong power draw from the device, then the usb device will likely not run. So be aware of that fact. It's a duplicator, but keyboards, like one of my older dells with light up notifications and backlighting, is too much of a power draw for the Surface and for the adapter as well. But despite that, it does what I wanted it for (Ethernet access via the USB 3.0 port). And it does that well. The additional ability of a port replicator/duplicator for additional devices is just bonus.

Works well
I recently received this adapter and tested it out. The gigabit ethernet speeds are very good, only about 30Mbps slower than my laptop's built in gigabit port. Having a USB 3.0 hub built in is also very handy! Network speeds DO take a hit when the other USB 3.0 ports are busy. I tried copying a large file from my desktop to my laptop through the adapter and was able to get 975Mbps. When I started copying a file from a USB 3.0 hard drive attached into the hub on the adapter the network transfer dropped to 775Mbps. The destination drive is a solid state drive with a high sequential write speed so that shouldn't have been the bottleneck. It could be a bit smaller but otherwise it's nice. Build quality also seems good.

Very Handy Device
I bought this for two devices. I have a Surface Pro 2 and a new Mac mini. I always seem to need additional USB connections. This offers me the extra ones that I need and also allows me to have an ethernet connection as well. This works well for all my added devices. I also do some traveling overseas and many times wireless Internet is not available in hotels. So having this device allows me to connect my Surface Pro to the Internet while I am away as well as allowing me to connect up more than one device to the Surface. From the use I have had with this device, I have not run into any issues. Everything seems to run as it should.

Excellent device!!
Works great with my Surface Pro 3. I was hesitant as I wasn't sure if the Ethernet port over USB would "look funny" to or be incompatible with devices on my direct ethernet network connection. I work at Mercedes Benz in the service department and currently the "latest" diagnostic computer they have available from the factory is the panasonic toughbook tablet with the celeron processor. It's a rock solid computer, but is horribly slow. These computers are just the "human interface" part that we use to connect to the actual Mercedes-Benz vehicle interface (which surprisingly has 4gigs of ram, it's own hard drive, usb ports, battery and probably some ridiculous German made processor). The actual interfaces that plug into the OBD diagnostic port of the vehicles are basically just a separate Ethernet & wifi based stand alone proprietary Mercedes Benz computer know as the SDS or Multiplexer. So my potential issue was whether or not this interface would work when I had to disconnect both from wifi and directly connect them to each other such as when I go on a road test with a customer vehicle. Needless to say, the Mercedes Benz software couldn't tell the difference of whether it was built in Ethernet or a usb device. So for my situation, I give this device a 5 star rating. Also, the usb 3.0 hub aspect works perfect with multiple high speed transfers going on such as installing software from a bluray or copying files between hard drives. Definitely performs as advertised. If they had one like this with an hdmi, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Weak RJ45 latch broke immediately.
USB3 works great. Ethernet works great. Tested under ChromeOS, MacOS X and Ubuntu LTS14 for USB3 (just with thumb drives) and ethernet. But - the portion of the ethernet connector that anchors the tab on the RJ45 cable broke almost immediately. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it actually broke while this was sitting relatively well padded in my bag! I used it once, and the cable latched. The next time I used it, the latching part was gone, and I found a the tiny plastic piece, clearly broken, sitting in the bottom of my bag.I haven't attempted to repair it - it seems like it would be difficult to glue it back into place without glue edges getting in the pathway of the RJ45 cable end. And would probably just break again. So I've attached an elastic band and use that to hold the cable in place. Pretty weak, but good enough most of the time.I would have expected better from Satechi - they get good reviews in general. But clearly the plastic material is not strong enough for that portion of the connector.

Almost perfect..Not
Ethernet performed flawlessly. I downloaded the driver and installed from the Satechi website instead of using the CD. Then just connected the Satechi to my Surface Pro 2 and then to the Ethernet cord and it was recognized. The 3 USB 3.0 ports work great. A Seagate Slim 1TB USB 3.0 powered HD, an Iphone 5, an older Apple mouse. Also tried an older USB 2.0 stick drive. The only thing that failed to work was an older Microsoft wireless mouse with a USB RF adapter.Updated 4/25/2015 - Stopped working for several months now. When plugged in, the Internet Connection seems to be lost and websites do not appear and are waiting to be loaded. The moment I unplug it from the USB 3.0 port, the websites refresh, are loaded and appear.Loved it when it worked, but maybe the Microsoft Windows 8.1 updates caused it to stop working. I even updated the latest driver but still no luck.Updated 4/26/2015 - OK, got it to work again. The trick was NOT the updated driver for the ASIX AX 88179 chip used in this device. I reset my Wireless Router by pulling out the Power cord from it and then reattaching the power cord. There must have been some conflict with this device and the router. I also connected an ethernet cable from the router to the Satechi Ethernet connection for a few minutes to make sure it was working properly. I wish the Satechi Customer Support would have suggested this. All they did was be friendly and ask a lot of questions, but no answers or suggestions.

Very Handy
Plugged it into my home network via ethernet cable and inserted the USB dongle for my Microsoft wireless keyboard & mouse. I then connected this to my new Nvidia Shield Tablet via a Techgear Micro USB OTG Adapter Cable (also bought on Amazon). Both the keyboard, mouse and network connection were immediately detected and running. Now able to stream games from my gaming PC at the top of my house to the tablet in my lounge in 1080p including ones which favour mouse & keyboard controls.

Works perfectly
I use this with a Surface Pro 2 which also has Apple OS X Mavericks installed on a partition. It works perfectly with both systems. Installing the Ethernet drivers (from a CD supplied) was slightly fiddly but not a real problem. For me, this an essential accessory, as my usual working environment has LAN cables but poor wireless coverage.

Excellent
Excellent product - fast and does what it says on the box, I got about 50MB/sec over the network. Ensure you download the drivers for the Ethernet part separately, as instructed in the packaging.

A very useful adapter
The usb hub and ethernet adapter works very well with my Surface Pro 3. No drivers needed in Windows 8.1. It could be a bit smaller though. Recommended.
