Platinum Preppy Fountain Pen 0.3 Blue Black

The pen actually writes very nicely. I'm quite happy with it, particularly for the price. The only issue is the photos all show a blue nib, which is one of the reasons I ordered here instead of elsewhere. The product I received just has a standard steel nib. Without that error, would have been a 5 star review.

The Preppy is an excellent entry fountain pen as well as a daily use pen. The Platinum ink cartridges use a steel ball as a check valve and ink agitator that works well. Other fountain pen ink cartridge makers should offer something similar. The snap cap posts securely and the pen is light weight. The nib is flatter on the underside than other pens and you can feel the difference when you rotate it from the sweet spot. The pen still writes but the feel is rougher and the ink flow not as smooth. Once you have the pen in the correct position, writing is a pleasure. This is one of my daily use pens because it always works and feels good in use. The 0.3 nib is comparable to the Pilot medium nib and seems slightly wider but not by much. The cap keeps the ink fresh for days between uses. The clear body lets you see the ink level and keep a replacement cartridge on hand. To start the ink flow on a clean pen, install your cartridge and let it soak into the nib for a few minutes. Then rock the pen to let the steel ball in the cartridge move ink to the nib until you're writing. Mine came with a stainless steel nib and blue feed and pocket clip/finial.

Great first fountain pen. Super cheap and comes with an ink cartridge. Writes a little scratchy but still fluid and clean mostly. Very light and easy to carry around since you don't really care about losing it. For the price is very hard to beat.

Love the pen. It is a great fountain pen for the money. Not happy with the pen arriving with a silver nib not the blue one pictured.

Writes nicely. Simple. Smooth writing. I like the idea of an inexpensive fountain pen. I don't have much else to report.

Preppys are the way to go.....
