Not the best leather, but portable and functional
Very old woodworker who mastered sharpening/honing plane irons, chisels, turning tools, and knife blades a long time ago. I have made my own strops many times. I just didn't feel like digging my contact cement and leather out before a trip, and wanted something portable that fit into a travel bag for hand carving stuff. The leather is very thin and not roughed enough to take much compound. Easy fix with some sandpaper, but beware how thin it is. I thought that I might have to lop off a few inches on the bandsaw to make it fit into my carving pouch, but didn't. It's perfect size for what I needed. Could almost fit into a cargo pockt, if you were so inclined. Reputable company (so, higher price, bleh). But, it'll last a while. Just wish they'd've gone with a higher grain of leather, since it required sanding. No biggie.

Great Tool For Sharp Knives
I know nothing about strops. But Flexcut said in their instructions that this strop was the only sharpening device you need to keep Thor knives sharp. And this is true. As a new woodcarver, I knew nothing about the carving knives and how to sharpen them. But when I watched several YouTube demos I realized that I needed one to keep my life sharp. And it does. I sharpen my knife before carving and after carving. And my knife is just as sharp as the day I bought it. So the strop works as per instructions. I use a yellow crayon compound and strop each side 15 times. It works. I highly recommend getting this item. Not too big not too small. Hope this helps. Mark

Amazing product for the price
This thing adds a razor sharp edge to an already sharp blade. Typically, when I want to sharpen a knife, I use a Spyderco Sharpmaker to set the edge of the blade I am working with. Then run it over this strop a dozen times on each side and you can Immediately tell a difference cutting paper. I even have the Ultra Fine stones for the Sharpmaker, but this outperforms them (I rarely use them anymore). I use the Grey stones to set an edge, use the White stones a bit, then hit this Strop for a crazy sharp edge. You can instantly tell a difference after the Sharpmaker and after using this product. This product is fantastic for getting to the next level after ceramics. (I'm sure someone will disagree with me, but in terms of efficiency, I use the basic Sharpmaker stones, followed by this strop, and my time spent sharpening a knife is cut in half) I have yet to try finer stropping compounds, but the yellow compound that comes with this product will shave hair off your arms with no effort. It really does enhance an already sharp blade. Fantastic product.

Essential for any home knife care kit
I've never bought a strop before, I've only made them out of old belts and this doesn't do the job any better or worse but it makes it really easy as its attached to a piece of wood, belaying the need to apply tension to the strop or find a flat surface to work on. The compound, which I used previous to buying the strop, works great and takes a TINY bit of metal off your blade, not as much as using stones/files and it applies to the leather pretty easily as it is designed for manual stropping not belt or wheel machines. I use the strop for touching up the edge between sharpening on stones as a way to prolong the life of the blade and to get a razor sharp edge on. I also use it at the end of the sharpening process to get the edge that I want on a blade. I've used it effectively on all my knives except those made with super hard tool steel, and on my axes and hatchets as well. Great addition to a home knife care kit but too big/bulky to carry into the field.

It's okay
I didn't use the included compound. Instead I used some green polishing compound of the type I normally use on my knife strops. The leather used here is not consistent in texture and not of very good quality. It works okay but it doesn't take compound easily. When stropping, the knife kind of bumps along. It works okay and it's cheap. There are better strop blocks available if you shop around.

Exactly what you would suspect!
This is a basic, high-quality item that is prepared for excellence. The brand says it all. Size is suitable for travel, and leather fits the block with no issues. I suspect it will be around for a long time.

I’ve used other strops with my Flexcut and Mora knives before and they did sharpen omay. This strop is sensational and basically brings them back to brand new. Super sharpening super easily. Having the backing timber on the strop means I can leave it next to where I am working and go back to it quickly. Planning to buy a spare soon. I highly recommend it.

I was a bit concerned about paying around £15 for essentially a block of wood with a bit of leather stuck to it. I have to say it still seems a bit too much but I couldn't be happier with it. It's a perfect size to accommodate almost any size blade. The compound will last practically forever and is pretty high grade stuff. Similarly the leather seems very high quality. The logo looks nice but it is recessed into the leather so you loose functionality there but it really isn't an issue. Highly recommend.
