Great Start . . . Looking Forward To More
I'm an avid "griller" but a novice "smoker." After quite a bit of research and reading reviews, I decided that this should be the smoker that takes me past rubbing some liquid smoke on ribs and putting them in the oven for three hours. The smoker did arrive with just a couple small, cosmetic dents . . . Nothing that compromises the integrity of the unit. It did assemble fairly easily, but I am used to buying something and having to put it together. The drawers that hold the wood chip and water pans are slightly un-level (out of square) when closed, but that does not seem to be a problem. I've used the smoker twice now. So far, I've been very happy. I still need practice myself with respect to smoking meat but keeping a constant temp and generating good smoke is easy. I smoked pork ribs and chicken thighs the first time. They turned out well but the ribs were a little too tender. Yesterday I smoked a small lean brisket and a salmon fillet. No complaints and again the smoker was easy to use. I'm still trying to figure out the temperature. I think the thermometer which comes with the smoker shows about 20 degrees too high. I have a high temp oven thermometer hanging inside and a wireless digital thermometer. Both of these show around 20 degrees less than what comes with the smoker. I am still learning but I think I may start assuming that the door gauge shows a bit too high. Overall, I'm very happy so far and looking forward to next weekend. So far, I would recommend this smoker.

Pretty darn happy with it - couple issues
I've had this smoker for about 3 months and have used it 4 times so far. Pros: - Generally well built. - Fits a full-size brisket really nicely. I cooked four full brisket flats and two chickens at once with no problem. - Sturdy - The fire box and the pan are nice and solid. - Heavy. You don't have to worry about it tipping over in the wind. - Came VERY well packaged. Was kind of amazed at all the special parts to keep it safe during shipping - The water pan is nice and ample - I've gotten some great results. Cons: - Others have commented about the magnetic closures. They are really weak. The first time I fired it up, the door kept opening up. A piece of lathe under one leg helped a little bit to square it, but it still opened. I solved the problem with using a very small bunge cord to keep the door tight. Very easy solution. - The temperature control is VERY sensitive. Just a 1/8" turn on the nob can move the temperature a good 20 degrees. Somewhat hard to dial in correctly. Just takes some practice and some attention. Overall, pretty pleased. I would recommend to others.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE BUYING A SMOKER!!!!
Should have done more homework! Landmann USA, the name is misleading. I expected a product made in the USA, however it is made in China. Water and smoke ship drawers do not fit properly and are difficult to pull out! No latch on the door, just a magnet that no doubt will give way soon. I intend to install a mechanical latch. The unit is made of thin metal, not as heavy as I would have expected. I will say that the packaging and assembly instructions were outstanding, thank goodness for that, since the unit came totally disassembled! It took at least 1 1/2 hours to assemble. The stryofoam and cardboard packaging filled up my recycling bin! Of course, it needed all the protection it could get coming from China. It will be interesting to see how long it last. You definitely want to keep this thing clean and dry because rust will eat through the thin metal very quickly! For just a few dollars more Landmann could build a really great unit in this country! Landmann smoker
The smoker came in a large box, it is a large smoker. What impressed me was that the box came in very good shape, no damage to the box or the contents inside. The inside packaging is quite adequate. There were no missing parts and all the hardware needed was there. The hardware was clearly bagged and marked. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. Assembly was easy and took maybe an hour and a half. All of the parts fit perfectly. I was concerned with the magnetic door latches but after assembled and checked they seemed to be more that adequate. There is plenty of space in this smoker, nice racks, large water pan and very large wood chip pan. The unit is heavy, right at 100 pounds, you'll need help to move it. I haven't used it yet but am confident I will like it. I have two other Landmann smokers that are smaller that I have used for over seven years.

Questionable quality
This smoker is a beast if you want to put more money into an already overpriced smoker. It arrived with a dent in the side that was not worth sending back, took about 30 minutes to hammer it out. The door came warped and it only seals with two under powered magnets, so I'm going to have to add a latch. The body of the smoker is just spot welded and poorly done at that. Both bottom doors had about a 1/2" gap and I'm sure it was from the damage from shipping. Like almost any smoker, I put a fireplace gasket around the doors. Once I had this all fixed, I gotta say this thing is a beast, temp is easy to control on both low and high settings. The thermometer was within a few degrees right out of the box and I haven't had to adjust it yet. Overall I love it, just find it hard to beleive that for over $500 you have to put another $50 into it. You can find this ALOT cheaper from other websites.

Landman smokers work great !!
My old Landman got washed away in Hurricane Sandy. This 3895 GWLA is nice and big, the draws are a great improvement . This is a good solid smoker that should last for years.

Easy to use
Easy to use, the ability to adjust the temperature is great and infinite. It heats quickly and maintains a constant temp. The door opens wide making it easy to access the food for basting or mopping. Easy to clean too.
