Absolutely wonderful.
I'm a high school senior, and I've been playing clarinet for 7 years. I don't know why I didn't get this sooner. As I became more advanced, my tone began to suffer, and it took me this long to realize that it was the cheap-o ligature I had used since 6th grade band. This, paired with 2.5 Vandoren reeds, works very well for me. It produces a nice, full, dark sound while still sounding clean and not fuzzy. Helps a lot with getting the high notes to sound with good tone. This being said, you cannot slap the thing on your mouthpiece straight out of the box. Before you do so, you need to follow the directions in the box. For me, all I had to do was oil the metal parts with cork grease and it was ready to use. I play for about 3 hours each day, so I oiled the metal parts at the beginning of each practice session for about a week. If you don't do this, you'll get a fuzzy, dull sound. Sometimes it's neccessary to oil in the middle of practicing if you have a dull sound. After a while, the ligature will conform to your mouthpiece and reed and this won't be necessary.

excelent upgrade
my son's metal ligature broke on his clarinet and his band teacher recommended this one. Not only is it easy to use and durable, but it greatly improved the tone of the instrument. Even though my son's playing ability was far more advanced than many of his peers, his teacher told him he could not be first chair because many of his notes sounded flat. when his original metal ligature broke, I attached the reed with a zip strip (I know, kind of ghetto) and to our surprise, he was able to play in tune consistently. After installing the new Rover 1R ligature the instrument played in tune and sounded warmer. Definitely happy with this product. I was going to subtract a star because it does seem a bit pricey but I believe it's worth the price and it's certainly less expensive than some of the "professional" level products.

Love This Ligature!
I bought this Rovner ligature to replace my gold BG Revelation Ligature that I had loved and used through my music major years in college but cracked. When i bought a new BG Ligature they sent me one that didn't work (the gold part was uneven causing me to squeak a lot and not voice or articulate notes easily). In short I hated my new BG gold Revelation Ligature, and the place I bought it from had a no return policy. I wasted $50 on that thing. So now I've moved on to the Rovner brand. My only disappointment is that I waited too long to try this out. I love that you can adjust the ligature to make your sound brighter or darker. It works! Really nice tone and articulation with this lig. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a ligature that works consistently and predictably well throughout all ranges of the clarinet. Try it!

Sounds better than a metal
Recently my daughters mouthpiece got busted when someone kicked over her clarinet and stepped in the mouthpiece. When the new mouthpiece arrived the metal ligature didn’t produce a great sound so I went from the recommendation of the band teacher on this one. It’s easy to use. My biggest complaint is the cover isn’t sturdy. It’s more on the flimsy side and I don’t feel it will hold up to much. Other than that, this works great for its purpose.

Great product!
I bought this quite a long time ago. I played clarinet in our high school band, but wanted to see if I could change the sound of my tone with any /small/ investments. I never had the money to purchase a high-end instrument. Anyway, I bought this on a whim, since it was relatively cheap at the time. When you first receive it, unless you've experienced these sort of ligatures before ( rather than the basic metal ones that always break! ), you may have to figure out how first it is supposed to go on. It's not that difficult, and with common sense it's sorted out quickly. I feel that this ligature helped to flesh out my high-register notes (F/E above the staff, and then eventually higher!) that always seemed quite shrill. I feel my sound became a bit more round, and warm. My director warned that he had a student who had one of these, but it never tightened properly, but that was not my experience, so unless there is product quality control issues, you shouldn't worry too much about that. I never found a reason to go back to my old ligatures.

When years ago I bought my Buffet E11, I was told I should upgrade my mouthpiece as soon as possible (and I duly did so, purchasing a Vandoren B40), but that the ligature wouldn't make that much of a difference, to it took me easily 12 years (during some of which admittedly I wasn't actively playing the clarinet) to decide to buy a new ligature. After quite some research I decided to go for this one as it had been recommended to me and it was among the cheap options and, boy, did it change the feel of my clarinet!!! Straight away it became a different instrument, much more responsive and easier to play on the high register, much less prone to squeak. I am looking forward to trying other ligatures (and mouthpieces), seeing how much difference this one made for me. Affordable as it is, I think it's a really really good option for beginners and advanced players alike.
