Tone It Up: 28 Days to Fit, Fierce, and Fabulous
L**E
A day-by-day motivator that should help with getting summer-ready
I've been following the Tone It Up girls for a few years, and two years ago I bought one of the meal plans. I pre-ordered their new book four months ago, but have been really unsure as to whether or not I should cancel my pre-order since I wasn't sure if the book would be redundant. I decided to keep my order -- and am glad I did. This is a fun addition to the TIU plan if you're already a member (and thus already own the Nutrition Plan), but is also a great overview of the TIU lifestyle if you're new to TIU and looking to get in shape. The book is divided up into five main sections:* Part 1: Becoming Fit, Fierce, and Fabulous* Part 2: The When, What, and Hows of the Program* Part 3: Knockout Nutrition Guide* Part 4: Your 28-Day Fit, Fierce, and Fabulous Challenge* Part 5: The WorkoutsSince the TIU girls just started their 2015 Bikini Plan countdown online, I was wondering if this book would be similar, but it's actually quite a bit different. The "Knockout Nutrition Guide" chapter includes lists of healthy foods to eat and "Knockout Nutrition Tips" that explain the benefits of eating certain foods. The chapter called "Your 28-Day Fit, Fierce, and Fabulous Challenge" is the heart of the book, and it lays out a day-by-day plan that includes a word and mantra for the day, a "Fab Food" of the day, one highlighted recipe, and some motivational tips. Each day, the girls have you try something new, like adding foam rolling to your day or meditating for five minutes. If you're new to TIU, Karena and Katrina's book will give you a good idea of what their recipes are like. (They also generously offer a lot of free content -- workouts and recipes -- online, even if you don't own the Nutrition Plan.)Unlike the regular Meal Plan and this summer's Bikini Plan, this book doesn't lay everything out for you in terms of what to eat and when. It also only includes 28 recipes total (one per day), so you'll have to do more work on your own in terms of creating meals and putting foods together. Since the heart of the book reads like a day-by-day motivational journal, it's perfect to use alongside Karena and Katrina's Nutrition Plan, especially when doing one of their special programs."The Workouts" chapter has great full-color photos of the gals demonstrating many of the moves. (Since they put out at least one free workout a week on YouTube, it's also a great idea to check there for more exercise routines!)All that being said, I wish that the book could have more new material in it. What I mean is that a lot of the information is content that you can find in fitness magazines or online. For me, the day-by-day aspect of it holds the most value since I plan to use it to motivate me to stick to their eating plan for a month.Overall, this is a fun book, full of bright, beautiful photos. I love Katrina and Karena's energy and enthusiasm, and it shines through brightly in this book! It's the perfect motivation for getting summer-ready!

My TIU experience.
Okay, this is really long. I’m unfortunately with the growing minority in these reviews. Finally, a place where disgruntled TIU members can speak up about our experiences.First some background:I have been following K&K for a few years now but without spending any money by doing their free workouts on youtube. I bought the second beach babe dvd and LOVED it. I debated and debated for at least a year on buying their nutrition plan (as it was incessantly shoved in my face all the time) and when the 2015 bikini series was about to start I thought, “what the heck” and spent around $200 to get it and some other products in a bundle. I thought that once I spend this money I’d be “in” (like they promised) and things would be laid out and easy to follow (with some work of course, living healthy isn’t easy. I understand that). But I found out that this was not the case. Yes, some of the recipes were at least good but many were disgusting and I couldn’t even force myself to eat them. I was so disappointed although still tried to keep a positive attitude about it. Following the bikini series plan made me waste so much food and spend so much money on groceries because the weekly menus and grocery lists were not well thought out. Also, I spent SO MUCH TIME prepping and planning. It was so stressful. I had to give up partway through because my wallet and my stress levels were suffering. I also had zero social life because a) I was constantly planning, prepping, etc. and b) because their rules are so strict. Barely any carbs, no fruit in the evening, and the concept of “wiggle room” which allows you to eat certain foods like some pieces of dark chocolate and 4 oz of red wine. Um.. sorry but that ain’t living to me. I commented on one of their instagram posts in a mildly critical manner (mostly asking a question) and I was immediately flagged as an abuser and could no longer post to that conversation. Really?! No wonder I never saw any criticism towards these gals, they don’t ALLOW YOU TO! Sneaky. K&K are great salespeople. They look hot, they take awesome photographs and they tell you to BUY BUY BUY! All. The. Time. Even if you’ve already bought every last one of their products you won’t feel satisfied. On to this book:I bought this book around the time I bought the nutrition plan. I concur with many of the critical reviews here, it is way basic and way too "shooting stars, rainbows blasting outta my eyes, sunshine and lollipops.” But I was expecting that because that’s how they normally talk. I get that they’re trying to instill us with all these warm fuzzy feelings but dang it’s just too much sometimes! I did appreciate some of the overall motivation advice and some recipes but that’s about it. It was very minimal in progressing my knowledge about exercise and nutrition. The workouts in the book also don’t add much to their already free printables on their website. Again, there was a lot of advertising in this book. BUY BUY BUY!!!Take home message:Please don’t get me wrong, some girls are really successful following K&K’s advice. I was not one of them. I still plan to continue following them and doing their workout videos but I’ll just have to remain diligent to push out the marketing voices from my head. I don’t plan on following their nutrition plan any longer. It just doesn’t work for me (duh, we are all different, why didn’t I realize this before?). If you haven’t bought the nutrition plan and you are really intrigued, this book might be a cheaper starting point to feel out the TIU world. They do give some basic nutrition advice that goes along with their plan. If you love it, go for it and buy the plan. If you’re iffy about them after reading this book, it’s probably not worth spending the money to buy the plan.

Really enjoying it!
Love it, keeps things interesting although if you're in the UK, some ingredients you won't find at your local Sainsburys that's for sure. It'd be better to do this with a buddy, but beware fresh clean food is always more pricey. If your pocket allows, and for longevity of life and actually having energy to live it - worth it.
