Deep, Comprehensive Primer for Interpreting Narrative
This book serves as the philosophical foundation for how I interpret what I read. It juxtaposes simple literary definitions with deep, fleshed out concepts for how to categorize and assign meaning to the events, characters, and the readers' perspective. I am a fan of Professor Bal and this book was my introduction to her work (the first edition) and her paradigm for critical analysis. I have enjoyed revisiting subsequent editions many times over the years and highly recommend it for all students of reading (narratives) and looking (art and cinema).
