It definitely worked on my chair with the lever on the side. I am not sure about front activated chairs.

Q: Might someone please tell me after installing the new cylinder, when it is in its LOWEST position, how high is the seat from the floor? Thank you.

That will vary by the model and size of your chair. I have the original (2000s-era) Aeron size C and when fully lowered the top of the seat is about 16" from the floor.
