Q: I have a 1/2 in thick flipbook I made. It's 50 pages of 65 lb paper. Can this stapler handle that and what size staple would I use? Thanks:)

iamb, I no longer use this stapler. I believe that it only uses one size of staples and I found that it doesn't work well for smaller reports. I now use the Stanley Bostitch Heavy Duty Stapler which uses a variety of staple sizes. A 50-page flipbook would use a 3/8" staple. See my extended review of the Swingline stapler for more details.

Q: How do I replace the black slide tab the sits above the staples in the handle that pushes the staple down?

that is a riveted spring clip . So you remove the top plastic cover to expose the rivets, drill them out, (that will release the upper steel body for removal, replace the clip, (do not know where or how to get a new one). rivet the assembly back together (pop rivets?), Re-glue the plastic cover back on. Or go spend $6.00-$9.00 to get another. I bought 8 last week for $36.00 on Amazon. I bill my admin time at $50.00/hr, so I throw them away.
