I recommend the Johnson bilge pump design.
Great product. The old ones I replaced were over 12 years old and used exclusively in salt water. They would have likely lasted longer, but over the winter the drain plug hole got blocked with debris and the bilge pumps cracked from the ice buildup. Replacement is a easy task. I used wire nuts and sealed them from exposure/moisture with "Goop." Plus, I added a wire ties about an inch back on the two leads for added security so that the wire could not be easily pulled apart and would remain secure. I also mounted the wire leads from the cartridge motor as high as the leads would allow. There was plenty of wire on the new Johnson pump leads with the new cartridge. I would recommend that the manufacture list the length in their advertisement because it was a concern of mine but turned out to be of sufficient length. When removing the old pump cartridge, I cut the wire off right at the cartridge, thus assuring much more wire then the original installation. One of the bilge pumps was mounted under the motor, but technically, it's the right location. The 1000 gph motor is powerful and easily lifts the water in the bilges for discharge. No messing with new mounting, hoses, etc. The Johnson bilge design makes the job easy. Highly recommended product replacement.

Easy to Install
The Johnson Marine Bilge Pump Cartridge is a great idea. Once you have installed the mount in your boat bilge you only have to remove and replace the cartridge instead of the entire unit. This is important to me, as I have very small area to work in and this makes changing a worn out unit very easy. I have two bilge pumps, one automatic and one manual. I use the cartridge on my manual pump. Rewiring is easy and all the various models 500/750/1000 GPH are the same size, so you can increase or decrease the capacity of your pump simply by changing the cartridge. And cartridges are inexpensive when compared to replacing the entire pump. No faults to this point. A good product!

Great Fit and Replacement For Mayfair 28512 Pump
Johsnon Pumps:--------------------------So far all looks good. Good packaging and shipping as usual. I did a test in my driveway and the pump is strong and quiet. My original bilge of 13 yrs started getting noisy. I try to keep my things nice and fix things pro-actively as to avoid preventable sorrow later when you really need it. As the QA section showed this should work for 2800 series pump and did for me. This pump popped right in as a replacement for my 28512.Other Pumps:------------------------I now regret dealing with Attw$$d bilge pumps on my brothers boat a few years ago. The output nozzle of the pump soon cracked and we were stuck and still bought another. I snubbed the Johnson design at that time for some reason. Maybe because I'm more of a Merc/Yammy guy? (stab at humor) I think I thought this "cartridge design" made it cheezy. Again, no good reason and my bad. After finding out my Lund boat came with Johnson pumps and the ease of replacing I now regret using/re-using the other brand on my brothers.Johnson pumps now on for me! Hope this helps some people!
