Palette addict here
Nice travel palette size and paint. I’m not a fan of any water brushes, but ok to have in a pinch (actually I’d have to be desperate) but I can put a travel brush or two in that space instead - so good to have that space - and the pen. I liked the paint itself so much that I ordered the full size Kuretaki Art Nouveau palette after using it - lovely watercolor paints.

Great traveling set
This is a great travel set of watercolors, there are 2 different sets with different colored pans that you can take out and swap the colors to make your travel palette perfect for you. I do wish that this company would make all their colors in travel pan sizes.Note* the half pan style and how this travel palette was designed is proprietary to them. So might not be able to put different makers pans in this travel palette.

The colors are basic but mix well
After using this little kit, I am enjoying the colors, that mix well. I love the water brush and marker and the kit could be used for traveling.

A great travel kit - NOTE - there are Two Different Versions of this !!
I really love this little kit -- however, I didn't notice that there are two versions!! of this travel kit, and they have different colors!!I originally had ordered the other one, which I loved so much, I tried to order the same one for a friend... Well, it came today, and I was surprised (and disappointed!) that the colors aren't the same as the one previously purchased. So, apparently, Kuretake offers this in two different color palettes, but they are offered on Amazon on different pages! (???!!)This kit says it is "Transparent" and the other one...I think it just says "Vibrant". Anyway, I really like the other kit's colors...but since this is a gift and I don't have time to return it and send the gift, she will receive this one. It almost looks like they made a 'modern color' palette and a 'traditional' palette, but that must have gotten lost in the translation from Japanese. I have some of the larger paints, and those are really nice too.In the photos, there are color swatch charts, which you can compare to see what each one has in it. WISH I would have known that before ordering! Which is why I'm writing this review. (You're welcome!)Either way, this is a great little travel kit, with everything you need except a bit of water - just pre-fill the brush, or if you're going on a commercial plane, wait til you're on board! and some watercolor paper or pad. For a small painting, or sketch journal, it is perfect! Once you get the hang of using the water brush, it's actually quite fun. The paint behaves differently from when using a regular brush, and I noticed it sort of changed how I painted, and how the color went down on the paper -- all fun and positive experience. If you need a compact travel kit, this one is definately a winner...but you might compare the two different versions to see which color palette will work for what you are going to paint. Have fun!

Great Portable Kit
I've taken this little watercolor kit to Rhode Island while on vacation. Its small enough to fit in my back pocket yet contains everything I need, but paper, to produce a watercolor project. Take it anywhere. Love it.

Great value for a small travel set.
I bought this as a refill kit for my Kuretake travel box Kuretake Watercolor Art Painting Compact Box Set 12 Color for Outdoor Use.Not only did I get 14 pans when I really only need 12, but I also got a medium watercolor brush, a $8 value and a ZIG drawing pen 0.3, a $10 value. At that price I got 14 watercolors for $7 or only fifty cents each. Plus a free palette. What a bargain. These may not be the best watercolors in the world but then I'm not bringing my Schmincke with me in case TSA decides to confiscate them. I'd rather lose my $30 Kuretake than $280 worth of watercolors in my Whiskey Painters flask palette. For what I need, these are the best.If you just want to do plein air locally or you want studio paints, then something else might be fine. But if you want a nice versatile and economic set to take with you when you travel abroad, then I highly recommend this set. Team it with a journal and you're set to go. I do prefer the Kuretake compact travel box for traveling as it includes a pencil, eraser, sponge, waterbottle, 12 pans of color, fold out mixing palette and a water cup area. It is self contained all in one hand. But this set would work fine too. It's a little larger but it flat enough to fit in a coat pocket or purse.

Great set
I got these for my sister who wanted to do some "art journaling" and we have had so much fun with them. They are more opaque than traditional water colors and that has made them way more fun to color in drawings with. The colors are great and the water color brush is awesome and makes painting much more manageable. We've gotten the whole family involved and everyone loves them.

Nice colour selection, good value with 9 mixing wells, brush pen & water brush. Very compact.
New to watercolours and I wanted a little set for traveling that wasn't poor quality. These are not the same as the Kuretake Gansei water colours, although they are made by the same company. If you compare the numbers on these halfpots to the Gansei paints, they are different. Everything I've read about the Gansei describes them as being more opaque than Western watercolours. The FILS (or PHYLS) watercolours are more transparent, so perhaps Kuretake tried to make a range of watercolor paints that are closer to Western watercolor paints. The color chart on their website even calls them transparent. The colors have warm and cool versions, eg vermillion red vs carmine red.Anyway, you get a waterbrush and a brush pen, plus there are 9 mixing wells in the lid, so it's good value for the price. Very compact and the packaging box is so pretty I kept it instead of throwing it away. For my needs (sketching and dabbling in watercolor), this set suits me very well. It won't be last set of watercolour paints I buy but I'm happy with this choice for my first set!

bonne marque
