Beck/Arnley 143-0892 Thermostat

2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. Fits but no Gasket. Silly to not include a 10 cent piece of rubber...

Parts worked as expected and at a great price.

The first thermostat worked upon receipt, but failed after a couple months and caused overheating. Checking with boiling water showed that it is stuck closed (leftmost thermostat in picture).The second thermostat received has rust on the valve, as shown in the pictures. Although it opens, I'm not willing to use a rusty product. Unsure whether this is a used part or just a quality control issue.

I purchased and installed this thermostat in winter months and didn't realize that it was not opening to allow the coolant to circulate through the radiator. In the winter months I was using the heater and that was how the car was cooling enough to drive for two months. As the spring came around the heater was not used very much and the temperature was warmer outside, causing the engine coolant to build up pressure, overheat the engine and break some gaskets to escape. After chasing down leak after leak I realized that the radiator hose to the thermostat never got warm, indicating the thermostat was not opening to allow the radiator to cool the engine. This was long after the 30 day Amazon return limit. And no manufacture warranty was found. After I purchased and installed a replacement thermostat from the local NAPA store(with limited Lifetime Warranty) the engine never went above the midway temperature mark. I was able to seal up all the leaks and the nightmares subsided.

I would post pics and video but wont mean much, basically I was left stranded with 2 of these purchases and i'm lucky i didnt blow my head gasket. having the AC shut off in traffic was a dead giveaway that i was overheating. I ended up buying a better brand from Rock.. website.
