Recommend the next time to install first a 3 feed ...
This is a review for the Panasonic FV-08VQ5 WhisperCeiling 80 CFM Fan which replaced a noisy cheap build contractor grade Broan 668 fan.The Broan 668 fan has a 7 ½ by 7 ¼ opening so we had to cut the hole in the ceiling larger after the old Broan 668 was removed.Install really required access from the attic and from below. Here are the steps:• Climbed up to the attic and removed 1 ½ inch of blown in isolation material around the Fan we want to replace. That was the part of the job which was not pleasant at all. Make sure to wear a mask, goggles and long sleeves and gloves.• Removed from below the Broan 668 cover and motor assembly.• Used Panasonic provided template to mark the new larger size of the opening and enlarged opening from down in the bathroom.• Took the metal slider for the suspension bracket off, because it is not possible in a tight fit to push the new box into the opening. Had also to remove as it seems to be designed that way the front part (Shinny metal) of the Air outlet and power connector.• Placed the front part I removed first in the opening so that the duct connector is in place, then pushed the black box into the opening and slide it right the way into the other front part. Double checked and screwed in again the screw to have ground and to secure the front part to housing.• Next screwed 2 long screws in to wood joint and used special screws for drywall to secure box to sheetrock. Not a strong hold, so I went up to Attic and placed two short 2x4 around the box and then used from down below longer screws to go through sheetrock into the 2x4, Installed the 2x4 with silicon caulk and sealed also the box to the sheetrock with silicon to have an airtight setup• Went back up into attic and connected back the bracket slider and had to cut one of the brackets to be able to push it into the slider and have enough room on the other side to push the second bracket slider in.• Secured bracket to both Joists with 4 wood screws• Connected the power to the fan. After the small round metal was removed with a screw driver I pushed a round conduit connector in the whole so that I have no sharp edge. Connected power and closed the box again. That was somehow difficult doing it from the Attic while kneeing on a joist. Recommend the next time to install first a 3 feed power cable and use an external junction box. Much easier to deal with.• Next connected 4incj duct and run it to the ceiling outlet where I had to replace the 3inch Y-diverter for a 4inch Y-diverter as now the duct used is larger. Used metallic Duct tape which melts together when in contact to get a real nice seal. Make sure that you remove the tape inside the fan outlet which keeps the backdraft damper in place during transport. If you forget that you have to undo your duct connection only to remove the tape. Happened to me, so pay attention to the details.• Test the fan from down below and it worked, very silent and very efficient.• Replaced then next the switch with an Enelites HET06A-R In-wall Countdown timer.Additional parts we needed:• Plastic round conduit connector to have no sharp edges at power junction box of the fan.• 8 foot 4 inch flex line (special for our install where we had to replace old 3 inch line.Purchased at Home Depot (look a dryer vent area not duct work).• Metallic Duc-tape• 4 inch Y-divider to have 3inch and 4 inch connector. (special for our install)• 2 1foot long 2x4 wood pieces• Silicon caulk• 16 long wood screwsOverall Install time:Because of required access to attic and removing isolation material it took over all 3 hours with several trips up and down to the attic. It took then another hour to clean up the mess of the isolation material I had in the bathroom and exit of the Attic and there is no good way to avoid that. Conclusion:It is worth to do this update on a fan in small bath room with no windows and a lots of moisture buildup as this fan will run a lot. It is very quiet and very efficient. However the two other small bathroom fans I will not use this fan model as I will need something I really can do from down below as attic access is questionable for the other fans. Looking here to get a Small Delta BreezSlim SLM50 and modify from down below the Broam box to receive the inside of the Delta BreezSlim fan. Already tested that in the Garage with an old box.

Great fan, installation can be a challenge
This fan seems to perform very well, as most other reviews say. I deduct one star because the listing should make it clearer it's meant for new construction, not a finished bathroom. The instructions clearly tell you to finish the ceiling work after installation--in other words, it's meant to be put in when you have just the bare joists, not trying to cut a hole through the ceiling. I was putting this into a century-old house, with joists at charmingly different widths and various surprises in the attic, so it was an adventure. Of the three exhaust fans I've installed (the others were in 60-year old houses), this was by far the hardest. In some houses, it can be an easy job, and in new construction this would be a breeze to put in, but you will want to check out your bathroom situation carefully before getting this one.. Fan is very quiet--people who have heard it have been surprised how quiet it is, and it clears our small bathroom very well (we got the 80 CFM model).

Great fan in general, but ... if you have a small house, you NEED this
8 Starts??? Worth the extra money!!! Must have for a small house!!! I can't hear it, and, the house is sealed up fairly well, but when the door is shut and the fan is on you can feel the air coming from under the door but it is amazingly quiet, got this with "Enerlites HET06A 1-5-10-15-20-30 Minutes Preset In-Wall Countdown Timer Switch" and it's awesome!!! Side note - small house - inherited some stomach troubles that I'm finally sorting out but with this fan I can use the bathroom in the middle of the night without waking up the rest of the family like I did with our old annoying loud fan running. So I feel better and the family sleeps better

I Hate Myself For Not Having Bought These Fans Sooner
I purchased four of Panasonic fans: two at 80CFM and two at 110CFM."Whisper" is quite a befitting name for this product. While the item is sold as a new construction fan, a little bit of research and review-reading on Amazon leads to several great posts that describe in detail how to remove the vent portion, and connect this as a "remodel" unit. The instructions allow one to install the fan without having to perform drywall repair after. All the instructions on Amazon refer to the screw to be removed; I have a picture attached -the one also used for grounding.I printed the instructions and gave them to my electrician. The first one took him 2.5 hours to install from unpack until done. The second one about 1.5 hours. We encounter an issue with vent pipe size in my home, as we need to get a reducer from 4" to 3", so two of the units remain un-installed for now, but I have no reason to believe they will taken more than 1-1.5 hours to install from unpack until completion.FLAP NOISE DURING WINDAnother issue many face, as did I, is problems with the vent flap sound on windy nights. When it is windy outside there will be negative pressure inside the house, opening the flapper. It then falls back down to keep the vent closed to improve insulation. Older Panasonic vents had an aluminum flap door that was noise and easier to damage. Other manufacturers have this problem too. However, the new Panasonic vents have solved this three ways:- Placed a foam tip at the closing point of the flap (see photo). When the flap shuts it makes a minimal thump sound- created gaps (it does reduce insulating value) around to minimize the pressure difference between indoor and outdoor- change to a plastic flap door that resonates less when closing and landing on the rest of the metal bodyOwners of other fans have resorted to light magnet and window weather strip attachments to dampen this noise. This fan gives it to you out of the box.TIMER COMPATIBLITYThe fans also work with GE electronic timer switches.

It's a very quiet and effective fan
This does wonders in our bathroom. We didn't have a fan installed and our bathroom window in the winter would build up an incredible amount of ice because of the trapped moisture. We had no way of opening the window in the winter months and who'd want to do that when you shower anyways. This has changed everything. Not only does it have a very quiet motor, it strong and easy to clean the blades and we have little to no ice on our window in the winter now. It's quiet enough to question whether or not it's on sometimes. It's a good product and a great deal especially when on sale.

I felt the force of air from the vent on the side of the house and it has very good force. The best thing about this fan is ...
I installed two of these, one is in a main bathroom that vents through the roof and the other is in a basement bathroom that vents through the side of the house. I felt the force of air from the vent on the side of the house and it has very good force. The best thing about this fan is how quiet and smooth it is. Great purchase.

Better product technical specs on Amazon site would be very helpful
Just got the unit and mounted it. It is really quiet, especially in comparison to my previous one. One can still hear it, like a low volume white noise, but a lot has to do with the way I had to put the venting conduit. We will see how long it is going to last - other reviewers noted that theirs broke down after a few years. The only think, which could be improved - better, more complete, technical specs on Amazon site. The pamphlet included with the shipped unit "surprised" me with a few issues, which I had to address before I could proceed with mounting. Having the better specs ahead of time would be very helpful, or even determine whether the product is adequate for my geographic area construction codes. On the other hand, I couldn't find much better specs on Internet, even Panasonic site contained incomplete info.

The fan works beautifully as expected
The fan works beautifully as expected. The installation instructions were vague when it came to a retro-fit installation. More "disassembly" is required than is indicated. And the purchase was difficult as the unit was shown to be at the warehouse and yet the delivery was only offered for TWO years in the future. It took a lot of effort on my part to actually get this thing. But when Amazon finally woke up they were super.

It sounds like someone turned in the fan in the next room
It sounds like someone turned in the fan in the next room. I literally asked my electrician if it was working cause I couldn't hear it. So quiet.Installation is straight forward. Mine was a retrofit and came with old house headaches. Disassembly was required but was easy to do. Wiring is simple. Simple function.I paired my ceiling fan with the Leviton LTB60-1LZ. WORKS GREAT!
