Selkirk 6" SureTemp Chimney Roof Brace Kit, Adjustable Steel Mounting Bracket Support for Pipe Wood Stove Fireplace Chimneys, Silver, 206440

As literature on website says, this is not stainless steel but galvanized steel. Instructions say to prime it, paint it, touch it up after installation. Instructions best when one conducts an internet search and finds an actual drawing of how to the 2 pieces that circle the chimney go together--it is a bit of a puzzle at first sight. It took me about 1/2 a day to get old guy wires off, the new brace on. It is not difficult work, only work has to be done with intense care and attention because of being on a roof (I have a metal roof that is a 6:12 pitch with its own issues on getting there...quite beyond this review). It is firmly in place, painted per instructions, holds the chimney in place, and looks terrific. Don't lose the bolts, the nuts!

This brace is a great utility piece and is needed to make sure the exterior stove pipe is properly supported. One bit of advice, if installing the bottom brackett to a metal roof, wood blocking maybe required underneath and a piece of self-sealing EPDM should be used between the bracket base and the metal roofing to insure against leaks at the screw holes even if caulk them

First, they should fix the description as this is not stainless. I bought this to replace a like unit that had corroded into brown dirt after more than 20 years of seattle rain. Old unit was difficult to get apart as the hardware had corroded solid. The old design used set screws to lock the support poles to correct length. This new unit has end of outer pipe cut and is clamped to inner pipe with a hose clamp, is much more secure. The ring assembly is really well designed, lovely actually. Assemble the ring on the ground, leave the supports separate. The bolts that will hold the supports are actually captive inside the ring. Tricky to thread together when you're on the roof so just do it on the ground. All done up the brace is quite solid. Good piece. For a bit more corrosion protection I lightly sanded mine, cleaned with alcohol, then gave it a quick single coat of zinc spray paint. I also fingered heavy grease all over the hardware once all was tight.

Works perfect and easy to assemble. Fit their 6" double wall pipe perfectly.

Strong winds will loosen the braces where they coupled together even with the hose clamps…put extra screw to hold better

This was a disappointing purchase. It is not stainless steel as advertised. I am not sure what is galvanized and what is not, if anything. It is recommended that the support arms be painted, it does not mention the band that goes around the pipe. I wonder how all of this will hold up. There were no instructions for aligning the two halves of the bands, not even a close-up picture. I had to search online. Even then there were choices which I had to consider to get the right fit. When I checked the parts list, what I had did not match what was in the box. The design has changed, I guess. To clamp the two tubes that create the adjustable arms together, one inside the other, I received two hose clamps. That was not the design described in the instructions. The two arms were different from each other in construction. One had a split end, enabling the tube to be compressed by the clamp and secured, at least. The other had no split and was indented. I had to hammer in the inserted half to clear the obstruction and work it in and out to enable later adjustment when attached to the pipe. The absence of a split made securing the two pieces together with the hose clamp very difficult. I had to straddle the joint and get it very tight to squeeze down on both simultaneously. After putting the whole thing together I realized that I had the arms upside down, water would run into the larger tube if I did not put that on the higher end. There was no mention of that necessity in the instructions. I had to disassemble the arms and flip them. I had three small screws included, no idea of what they were for. Maybe they were related to the clamping change. This is serious business, securing a chimney onto your roof. Especially considering the price, instructions should be explicitly clear. I had to figure out the majority of the assembly myself. The parts did not even match the limited instructions provided. I also ordered a 3' chimney section to add to the existing stack, hence the need for the support. That section had a dented end and a small gap exposing some insulation in the pipe. The box reflected no damage, so it happened before shipping. I had to pound around and reform the circle and close the gap. Selkirk's quality control is terrible. Whoever is in charge should be replaced with someone who is hands-on, who checks the products himself. What I have seen here is a disregard for the customer and a lack of pride in product. I purchased a pipe section last year and it was fine. I know the customer service department is/was excellent, I had a conversation last year, when contemplating what I needed to alleviate a backdraft problem, with a woman who provided the most thorough discussion of alternatives I have ever experienced when dealing with a product issue. So someone there is knowledgable and cares. But they need to revamp things on the product end. Maybe there has been a change of some sort over the last year. I just hope it holds at the clamps and does not rust, especially where the wrap-around band meets the stainless pipe. Advertising this as stainless is reprehensible. Amazon.com should be embarrassed, this is patently false advertising. The difference between stainless and not is significant. The whole thing is mystifying to me, how such errors can be continued by both the manufacturer and Amazon.com, even after being notified that it is not stainless, is beyond my understanding. But I need the roof bracing; time will tell...

I needed a brace kit and this fit the bill . Was easy to use and understand . It suggests to paint the non stainless hardware , will do when warms up. . I recommend this product .

Be aware that This item is not stainless steel as described but mild steel. Company refuses to pay for return.
