Excellent Fishing Accessory
This is an excellent item to have in the tackle bag. Yes, it is a knife sharpener - but its a pocket sharpener designed to put a quick edge on something you have dulled in the field. If your expecting anything more than that you should buy their larger sharpeners. BUT its main purpose for me is the hook sharpening groove!! I've sharpened everything from 8/0 big game hooks offshore to #8 bass flies with this. I had my last one 10 years or so and the only reason I'm replacing it now is I lost it. Glad they still make it, great piece!!!

DMT - The Best Diamond Sharpeners
I have used many different sharpeners over many years, and DMT sharpeners are the best. Not all diamond sharpeners are equal. DMT uses angled diamonds that present the points upward to give you the best edge with the least effort, and mine have never seemed to get worn even after years of use. I gently clean them using water and a tiny bit of soap and my finger tip - blotting dry with a paper towel. I sharpen dry or with a little water (never use oil on fine grit diamonds) - follow the instructions. I prefer this angler unit, or the longer double-sided (two-grit / blue-red) folders which cost 2x-4x more. Creating the "perfect" edge requires a guide rod system that holds the sharpener at a perfect angle - that DMT aligner kit (with diamond stones) costs $50-$100. This little angler unit includes a unique hook sharpener along one edge and is a great low-price starter and good compact field companion or tackle box pal. At 1-1/8 x 3-1/2 x 3/16 inches (28x90x5 mm) folded it will even fit into some knife sheath stone pouches. Red (fine) is the best all-around grit for resharpening when you already have shape on your edge. The rougher blue grit cuts faster for reshaping or use on rougher tools like hatchets. The DMT stones are used at 90 degrees (perpendicular) to the blade edge (take care not to cut yourself), creating microscopic saw-like teeth in the blade - very sharp. You cannot get that effect from "V" sharpeners that you pull your blade straight through. I recommend this or any DMT diamond sharpener - they are far superior to stones and oil, faster and easier and consistantly sharper in my experience. at the DMT web site. Read more

Best Sharpening Stone EVER!!!!
I have to take my hat off to DMT for their products. I have been using DMT products since 2003 and would recommend them to anyone who wants to put a super sharp edge on any type of knife. It is a compact design that fits neatly in you pocket or as a key chain. And best of all, it's MADE IN THE USA.

BEWARE: "FINE" IS MED-FINE at best!
I bought this "Fine" only to fine it dulled a fine edge on a nice knife. Also--as another reviewer pointed out--the section edged by the hinge cannot be used (The plastic overlaps it slightly. I found that part useless. Poor design! These are famous for working well, BUT go a step finer--then expect to have to clean them regularly or they fill with shaving debris. (If you can afford them, buy sets with varied grit; or, buy the double: Fine/ExFine combo--if you can only have one dbl. grit set.)PS Don't even imagine you can return these. Trust me.

Folds into a small compact space
I originally purchased this for a fishing friend. These are great for the tackle box to sharpen anything. I prefer the coarse model. I may just forget to give it away.

Disappointing
Well bit shocked with this one. Received product quickly and worked very well sharpening knives for a week with in 2 weeks it had worn down to almost nothing! Thought I was buying a quality product that would give years of service, very disappointed and quite shocked.....
