My Cats devour this food
I have two cats and they LOVE this food! It’s primarily cut up chunks of trout that you can clearly see are real ingredients Here are the first six ingredients 1. Trout 2. Fish broth 3. Vegetable broth 4. Ocean fish 5. Dried egg whites I typically rotate cat food, which I’m sure some have mixed opinions on. However I wouldn’t want to eat the same thing forever and I’m sure my cats don’t want to either. With that being said, since I found this food it has been a staple in my rotation of food for the kitties, they get a can of Canyon River Taste of the Wild at least once a day (I feed three cans a day to each of my cats). I think that for the quality of food, the price is well worth it.

Even the pickiest Kitties approve!
My cats are definitely spoiled and there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for them. When it comes to their food I read all of the information available about the brand, ingredients and where it’s made, my partners cat was poisoned by the food made in China, I won’t take any chances buying substandard food to save a few dollars. Taste of the Wild is highly recommended for the quality of its ingredients. That being said my kitties love this food but they are picky in that they only lap up the gravy ! For some strange reason pate is what they want. No worries!! problem easily solved I simply take out my potato masher and mash away. Now one of my kitties is toothless, poor baby loves his dry food. Rather than watch him gum his Taste of the Wild dry food I take a handful of dry and stir it in his “mashed” wet food. I then add water in the empty can and divide it into each kitties bowl and voila ! Mushy cat yummy’s and they lap up every bit of this weird concoction. Despite having several cat fountains my toothless kitty refuses to drink enough water so adding extra to his food helps me feel better. This is a brand I trust and the quality is outstanding. I highly recommend you try this food for your fur babies.

Ingredients are Very Good, and My Cats Like It
I mostly feed Blue Buffalo, and my cats have done very well with it. With rare exceptions, Blue Buffalo is the only kibble that I feed to my cats. However, my cats appreciate some variety in canned food so I look around for different quality foods that I can rotate into their feeding regimen. Among the things that I look for in any cat food are primary ingredients consisting of poultry, fish or meat, and an absence of corn, soy, wheat, or gluten of any kind. Two of my cats just turned twenty-two, a third will be twenty-two in a month, and a fourth is ten years of age, so I include canned food in their diet twice a day, to ensure proper hydration. While I rotate between the various Blue Buffalo canned food choices, I add other quality canned food choices to the diet plan, as well. My cats are satisfied with the same kibble day after day, but they get bored with the same canned food more than a couple of days in a row. The Taste of the Wild Rocky Mountain Feline Formula in Gravy was well received by all four of my cats, and I am very pleased with its ingredients. The ingredient list is my first test, and if I don't like the ingredients, my cats never get to taste the food. I happen to know that there are some pretty bad cat foods on the market that my cats will nevertheless like the taste of, so I don't leave everything up to an animal that is unable to read the ingredient list. The first ingredients are as follows: Salmon, fish broth, chicken broth, chicken liver, chicken, dried egg white, ocean fish, peas, modified potato starch, natural flavor, roasted salmon... I am always curious about listed ingredients such as "natural flavor" - natural flavor of what? But that strange ingredient is listed tenth from the top, so there's probably not very much of whatever it is. Other than that, everything in the ingredient list is recognizable to me as being either a natural food, vitamin, mineral or other necessary ingredient. In summary, the ingredients are very good and my cats like the taste, so Taste of the Wild is a go in this family. It's not the only food that I'll feed them by any means, and Blue Buffalo will continue to be my staple, as far as kibble goes, but Taste of the Wild has earned its place in my canned food rotation.

What is this crap?? Save your money and buy it at the store!!
****BUYERS BEWARE!!! YOU CANNOT RETURN THIS FOOD ONCE YOU HAVE ORDERED IT!!! NOW I AM STUCK WITH $40 WORTH OF CAT FOOD THAT IS MAKING MY CAT SICK AND SHE HAS PUKED MULTIPLE TIMES!!! DO NOT BUY THIS ON AMAZON!!******* !!!UPDATE!!! I finally got some of this from Natural Grocers and I knew that the color of the food was different from the stuff that I bought on Amazon. See picture comparing the store product to the Amazon product. They are the same flavor just different sizes. My cat refusessssss to eat the stuff I bought on Amazon but will eat the stuff bought from Natural Grocers…weird. I buy taste of the wild wet and dry dog food for both my dog and cat. My cat I got earlier this year and was experimenting with different wet foods and taste of the wild was the one she liked. I always buy the Canyon River flavor, however, I typically buy it at Natural grocers but they have been out the last few times so I ordered online. Since I ordered this online the very first thing I noticed when opening the first can was the color of the food. It is definitely a darker color than the stuff I order from the store and my cat won’t even touch this stuff. It just sits out, goes bad, and then I end up tossing it. Complete waste of $40 and I’ll never order this online again. Something has definitely changed because my cat normally eats this everyday and now won’t touch it.

Better with Time
I had to order this because I could not find it locally. I had just adopted a 3yr old rescue cat and was told that this was her brand of wet food. When it finally arrived my cat ignored it for some reason. I had been giving her other brands of grain free food, which she ate quite readily. Now we're back to Taste of the Wild, so there must have been other factors that caused her to ignore it, such as all that is involved in adapting to a new home. I am very relieved since it is much more reasonably priced and I like the description of the ingredients. She still doesn't like the kibble version and seems to prefer other brands, but I plan to try it again, as it is more reasonably priced, too. So far I have just used the Rocky Mountain Formula, but plan to try their other formula to have some variey. I have found a small local store which carries this brand, but now I really prefer the ease and cost saving of mail order!

it must taste great
the cat totally likes this wet food. i tried many foods of different brands both wet and dry since getting her from a shelter on New Years Eve Day 2014. she gave few warm welcomes, and in those few cases, it was short-lived. i overall failed with every wet food tried and gave in to feeding her dry food only, with plans to look into wet food again at a later time. taste of the wild dry was her favorite grain-free food hands down, the only one she really wanted to eat, so i went with it. i had no confidence in her ever accepting any wet food long term, but began reading reviews for this one. without exception (that i could find) every cat i read about that likes the dry version of taste of the wild also likes the wet version of taste of the wild. turns out it is the same with my cat. but i also read a number of reviews where the cats only wanted to lap the gravy and would leave the chunks uneaten in what is apparently a new formula. same with my cat: she lapped up the gravy and turned her nose up at the chunks. but i was prepared with a plan of action, because one reviewer said she puree's the wet food right in the can with a little added water. i tried this using a stick blender, right in the can like the reviewer said, and it worked just fine with a little water added. now my cat doesn't leave anything behind. she cries for this, and seems to not even want her dry food anymore. i might transition her VERY SLOWLY to eating only wet food, haven't decided yet. but what i do know is that she loves this food. she cries for it--like animals do in commercials, i always thought that was fake or they starved the animals to get that response. there are amazingly few reviews for this product posted on amazon, barely a handful for the 5.5 oz can, but there are a lot of reviews for it on other pet sites. the preponderance of amazon reviews are for the 3 oz can, which really surprized me because a case of 24 of the 5.5 ounce cans costs less than $10.00 extra while you get almost twice the food: 3 ounces x 24 cans is 72 ounces of food for about $22, whereas 5.5 ounces x 24 cans is 132 ounces of food for $30, usually less than $8 for an additional 60 ounces of food. that is a huge difference in value for dollars spent.

A Better Diet for Cats
i switched my 3 cats to this on the recommendation of someone who works for a vet. Since she wasn't a vet herself, I did some online research and found that, indeed, high protein diets are better for cats. I talked to my vet about the diet too and was assured that high protein diets do not cause kidney disease but they do exacerbate them once a cat has the disease. Anytime you change an animal's food, it has to be done gradually over a several week period so their digestive system can adjust to it and their taste buds. I highly recommend this cat food. I've been using it for almost a year now and my cats look forward to meal times. They do like to eat the gravy first and I pamper them a little by mashing up the solid bits of food into the gravy. All cats will prefer junk cat food to quality cat food; however, like children, it's important to work with them to get them to eat food that is nutritious and good for their overall health. Taste of The Wild is an excellent choice for a healthy diet.

Changed their preparation - consistency issues?
UPDATE (12/3/2011): The food in the last case that I bought was substantially different from previous cases. The pieces were much thicker and of a tougher consistency. Because of this, my cat was only licking up the gravy, picking at a few pieces, and leaving the rest in the dish. I don't know if it was more difficult to eat or less palatable, but I ended up having to donate the rest of the cans to an animal shelter. Because of the wide variation in preparation, I had to stop buying this food for Moxie. ORIGINAL: My cat goes crazy for this wet food. When he was younger (about 7 months ago), I tried to give him the same brand dry food supplemented with this wet food, but we had vomit problems with the wet food. When I re-introduced this wet food about a month ago because I was concerned about only giving him dry food, it was like night and day. He gobbles it all up every day, and there have been no vomit issues whatsoever. He knows that morning time is when he gets his morsels, and he sits in the middle of the kitchen and cries until I give it to him. I like that this food comes in larger chunks rather than tiny shredded pieces. It reduces the mess the cat makes in and around his bowl. I also like that there are few artificial ingredients, just like the same version dry food. The cans are only 3 ounces each, which is small if this were the only food you're feeding your cat, but for our purposes of half a can supplement a day, it's perfect. I just feed half a can and put the other half in the fridge for the next day.
