Tide of Iron: Designer Series, Vol. 1

I got confused by the many editions and expansions and thought this was the actual game, but the scenarios are very fun

I really wish this game had survived. Unlike the games that won-out against it, this is a historical squad-based wargame with hundreds of excellent miniatures for the price-point.The reviews on Amazon slamming it seem to have an overall theme of reviewers not realizing that World War 2 was an actual event, and that the game takes place in varied environments like Europe, Russia and Africa with scenarios based on actual battles that took place in those very different environments.To call the Designer Series collection of historically based scenarios by the greats of wargaming "amateur" really does it a great disservice- I'm thankful that I was able to get a copy and trace my Uncles', Great Uncles', Grandfather's, and Great Grandfather's footsteps in the 5 year war against Fascism in Europe.I would have looked forward to more of the high quality map boards, miniatures, and streamlined yet realistic rules of brutal warfare during 1940-1945 in other theatres.If you have Tide of Iron and appreciate the game as well as the historical nature of it (which is meticulously researched), get this book- it has some fantastic scenarios from Normandy, Bastogne, Holland and North Africa- unfortunately none that take place in Eastern Europe, but "Stalingrad" and "Fury of the Bear" should keep you busy for a while.

I like the ToI game it has some drawbacks but it is very playable. I got this product to expand the game but have to say it is not the same quality as other FFG products. Just looking through the book I can see that it is what I was looking for but the binding cracked and broke when I opened it. I am a comic book fan and read a lot of books and this is the first time I have had a book just break. After reading the errata sheet on line it looks to me like they rushed out a product and used the cheapest publisher around. I am going to return mine. For $25 the book should at least last longer than opening.

The "Designer Series" scenario book for Fantasy Flight Games' "Tide of Iron" offers some really engaging scenarios both for base game components and for the "Days of the Fox" expansion, detailing the war in North Africa. I haven't played any of the North Africa scenarios, but I have enjoyed the American-German scenarios quite a bit. "Bloody Lindern" is probably my favorite scenario from this collection, a big, sprawling battle with lots of room to maneuver. Other highlights are "The Twin Villages" and "Hell Week." If you like the "Tide of Iron" line you will no doubt enjoy the fun new scenarios this book has to offer, especially considering how the base game only comes with about six scenarios, most of them unbalanced. Fantasy Flight Games recently announced that it will no longer produce the "Tide of Iron" line, but instead will license the product to 1A Games, which has already produced the amazing "Stalingrad" expansion. Here's hoping 1A Games will keep adding to this great board game line.

I bought this to expand the TOI game but to me it was rushed and contained so many errors that most of the scenarios look like amatuers made them. I have made way better scenarios and Im not considered an expert. A lot of these scenarios arent even playable due to errors in cards. Not sure how you can design a scenario that calls for tank barrel modifications when no tanks exist in the scenario. Did you even play test these? VERY disappointing.

This is a set of normal type scenarios. None were exceptional in my opinion, but they were ok enough.for some play.

This book is amazing to go along with Tide of iron. the best WWII tactical warfare game.

Il volume è rilegato e ben realizzato, con mappe di gioco a colori, foto d'epoca in bianco e nero. Gli ideatori degli scenari sono ben noti ai giocatori di wargame e le loro note aggiungono interesse al tutto in quanto spiegano da dove nasce l'idea di ogni singolo scenario.Ci sono una decina di scenari ambientati in Normandia più un mini scenario introduttivo per chi inizia a giocare a Tide of Iron , due sulla battaglia delle Ardenne, cinque sulla guerra del Nord Africa , due sugli scontri in Germania e due in Italia.Mi sembrano tutti ben fatti e penso che questo volume sia un ottimo acquisto per chi gioca spesso a Tide of Iron.

je constate une fois de plus l'avance qu'ont les americains dans ce domaine ou en france on ignore presque completement ce genre de loisir .
