HORRIBLE SMELL!!!!
I have used this brand of shea butter for years. It worked great on my psoriasis. This latest order has a horrible smell. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! It is unusable! Surely someone at the Mary Tylor organization is aware that something is wrong with this batch. DO NOT ORDER THIS product.

Nice
Does have alittle bit of a natural smell to it but it fades once on skin after awhile. Out of all the shea butters this one is the highest quality.

HORRIBLE SMELL! DO NOT BUY!
I purchased this raw organic shea butter to make my own lotion. I have such terrible dry winter skin in Michigan and I’m convinced the chemicals in our store brands only dry our skin more and the cost is astronomical to continuously purchase. I purchased this shea butter and the mango butter in the same brand. Both came sealed in plastic inside a sealed ziplock plastic bag. The mango butter is fine and essentially smells like nothing. The shea butter smells like chemicals. If I had to choose something comparable, I’d say burning rubber or plastic? In fact it is so strong that I can’t use it. I thought maybe it would ease up once melted, but nope. Then I thought maybe it would improve with some essential oils. Nope. I mixed in some other oils and even mixed in some mango butter hoping for at least a little neutralization. No luck there, either. It is so strong I don’t even want to open that bag ever again. This is too bad because it’s soft and easy to work with. I’m going to see about a return, but I’m not sure because I would hate for it to open on someone’s mail/amazon route. They will certainly get a headache. I’m not sure if this was a fluke or something just with this brand? Regardless…don’t take your chances. I’ve seen that other posts have said similar things. Don’t order the shea butter. I’ll save you the trouble that I should have noticed ahead of time. It smells just AWFUL. I’m sorry to bear the bad news.

Making body butter and dealing with slight smokey smell
I bought this (and natural cocoa butter and a lot of other non solid oils) to make body butter. To successfully make body butter you need a ratio of one solid to one liquid (solid being Shea or cocoa butter or some other hard oil). You melt the Shea butter in the microwave (I melted cocoa butter then melted this Shea butter into it) then mix your other oils and any scents you want (I love the smell of coffee so I use pura d’or coffee oil - smells amazing with the cocoa butter) and mix in a mixer for about 10 mins. Refrigerate for about 15 take out and do another 10 mins. Keep repeating until the mixture starts to solidify and get a gravy like consistency. If you want to get rid of the smoky smell (it’s not noticeable until you actually use the body butter on your skin and it’s an after scent that many people might not notice and goes away in about an hour - in my research all raw Shea butter has this I think it’s how it’s processed) you need to put the mixture in your refrigerator for about 4 weeks - the other oils will absorb it and it’s gone. I couldn’t wait that long and my mixer isn’t that big so I used about 1 1/2 cups of the mixture and stored the rest (when you whip it its best to leave lots of room in the mixer as it gets about 3 times the amount with whipping). To finish just whip with a wire whip 20 - 30 mins then refrigerate 4 or 5 times until desired consistency. I store my finished result in an empty coconut oil container.

Shea Butter - An Essential Ingredient for DIY Sunscreen!
I recently embarked on a journey to create my own natural sunscreen and Shea Butter was one of the key ingredients. I am beyond impressed with its quality and the role it played in achieving a smooth, creamy, and hydrating sunscreen. Here’s the simple recipe I followed: • 1 oz Grass-fed Tallow • 1 oz Coconut Oil • 1.5 oz Avocado Oil • 1/2 oz Beeswax • 1/2 oz Shea Butter • 2 tbsp Non-nano Zinc Oxide • 1/2 tbsp Cacao Just combine all these ingredients in a double boiler and melt until well combined. Once everything is smoothly incorporated, pour the mixture into a glass container and let it cool. The Shea Butter really stood out in this recipe for its rich and nourishing properties. It contributed to the sunscreen’s consistency, making it easy to apply while leaving the skin feeling soft and moisturized. Plus, the natural, subtle scent added a pleasant touch to the final product. In conclusion, this Shea Butter has earned a well-deserved 5-star rating for its exceptional quality and performance in my DIY sunscreen. If you’re on the lookout for a healthier, natural approach to sun protection, I highly recommend incorporating this Shea Butter into your recipe. It truly makes a difference in the end product!

Good but strong earthy smell
This had a really earthy smell when I used it for my calendula - more than others I have purchased. I guess I need to start paying attention to brands! I didn't know there was variation in smell.
