Very tough
This camera works well. It's very durable. It has a good flash. It doesn't eat batteries. It's blue (very important for boys, for some reason...B-). Now the small downsides. The image quality isn't fabulous, but my son doesn't seem put off by that in the least. It needs a fair amount of light to take a good picture, but again, that doesn't seem to bother my 5 year old, and the flash takes care of truly dark places. What is this camera good for. Teaching holding the camera still to take a picture. No camera performs well, shaking around. Why don't little ones get that? Teaches image composition. They start to see what makes a good picture aesthetically (obviously my word...not his) pleasing. Helps them understand that pictures of people usually need to be close up to recognize the person...The long and short of it? My 5 year old loves the camera and it takes the beating he gives it. I'm certain he'll be ready to move up to a real camera in a couple of years, with no concerns, and by then, my 3 year old and 2 year old will be ready for this one!

It's a great first camera -- just manage your expectations
We gave our son this camera for his 4th birthday and he enjoys playing with it. He takes lots of pictures around the house and enjoys playing them back on the viewfinder screen. It is amazingly simple -- we taught him to use it in under two minutes. The battery life is OK, not great.Photo quality is definitely mediocre at best, especially in limited light conditions. Outdoors on a sunny day, it's actually not so bad. I'm a bit of a photo snob myself, but I don't mind the graininess of these pictures at all. Why not? Because it's A TOY. It's a way for children to learn a little about taking pictures, and a way for them to enjoy capturing what's in the world around them.I just downloaded 228 pictures from this camera onto my computer and reviewed them with my son. An archetypical shot was a picture of the doorstop that holds open our playroom door. This is the sort of thing a 4-year-old takes a picture of. So I just don't care that it's grainy. He likes that he took a picture, so he's happy, and I frankly don't NEED a high-quality picture of the doorstop, so I'm happy. Only a prodigy would be able to select an interesting subject, create an artful composition and capture a great image as a preschooler. So I think its lack of high resolution is moot.Check customer images to see real pictures taken by my 4-year-old.

A terrible camera in a great, tough body
I'm an amateur photographer with a camera frequently around my neck. My son has had toy cameras for ages so he could walk around taking pictures just like mommy. He's taken pictures with my DSLR and digital point and shoot and completely understands the concept of a camera. As such, I was very excited to get him his very own camera for his 3rd birthday.THE PROS:- This product is very easy for young hands to hold and even easier to operate.- My 3 year old didn't have any problem figuring out how to turn the camera on, take pictures or delete pictures.- We haven't had to replace the batteries yet after months of frequent use.- It is definitely durable! My one year old throws it around all over the place and it's never had a problem operating.- It takes an SD card so you don't have to rely on paltry on-board memory.THE CONS:- 1.3 megapixels. Even my cell phone has a 2 megapixel camera in it. The extra .7 megapixels would've made a huge difference and when even the CHEAPEST digital camera technologies have at least 2 megapixels, there's no reason for a product this expensive to have such a terrible resolution. For me, the camera is virtually worthless. When I go to download the photos he's taken at the end of the week, I can barely recognize any of them. I wanted to be able to print out his photos and hang them up in his room as his artwork, however you just can't get a good photo out of this camera even if the lighting and composition is perfect. This product is all about the camera and it sucks. It doesn't matter to me if it's too tough to break when I can't use any of the pictures taken with it anyway. The other Fisher-Price Kid-Tough Digital Camera doesn't even list the megapixels anywhere in the product information. (I think it may be the older version, which only has .3 megapixels!)I haven't been able to find a preschooler camera with more than the 1.3 megapixels, which again, I find just SHOCKING considering current technology. Might as well just buy a toy camera for less than $5 at Wal-Mart or the dollar store and wait a couple of years until your child is responsible enough to handle a cheap point and shoot. That's what I wish I would've done.

but that 4x6 prints came out fine, and that the quality was fine for a ...
I bought this camera as a Christmas gift for my 4 year old son. I had read the other reviews that the picture quality was not "perfect", but that 4x6 prints came out fine, and that the quality was fine for a child...So I was expecting low quality pictures from this camera when it arrived. To our complete disappointment, the quality was FAR WORSE than what we had ever expected. My son began shooting photo's and when I looked at the pictures, I was literally in disbelief of how poor the picture quality was! I was expecting far from perfection, but when I saw the blurry blobs, one after another, and was unable to make out barely anything, even when it was only a few feet away! I was extremely disappointed. Especially for the price that was payed for it...This camera is horrible, even for someone with low expectations.

Tough enough for a little tike
I bought the camera for my grandson who is not quite 2 since he kept trying to use his dad's (my son). He really likes it but he keeps pushing the erase button so he will not have a portfolio anytime soon. The photo quality is bad but I'm sure he doesn't care. The camera is very pricy for the quality but I knew that before I bought it. If he had been at least 5 I would have bought him a real camera. I began taking photos at 5 so I know children that age can be responsible.

I have just bought the camera for my two year old son.He loved it, and it was easy for him to use. He took a lots of pictures as soon as he got it. He then ejoyed watching them back on the computer screen, he also learnt very quickly to view them on the LCD Screen using the arrows buttons. The quality of the pictures is not so bad, if you consider it is just a toy and I do not want print the photos or at least not all of them.I think it is a perfect toy for two/ tree year old children. You can let them take all the pictures they like without worring they are going to drop the camera and break it.If I gave my two year old a proper camera, I would be lucky if lasted more than two days, after he tried to experiment the gravity force with it.

Fisher-Price L 8341-0-Digitalkamera

A great Toy camera that actually works
The one thing you do have to remember is this is a Fisher price camera and fisher price make toys, they are not Sony or Canon.I agree the quality of the pictures is not brilliant but I purchased the camera for my 4 year old boy, before this he played with bits of plastic moulded to look like a camera from the cover of a comic. My little boy thinks it's great, he can snap away, It doesn't matter if it is dropped or water is slashed on it, It even has a flash, I know I would of loved one when I was his age.In conclusion, it's a great Toy camera, quality of pictures is not great, build is superb so If you little one wants a toy camera that actually works then buy this.
