Just an absolutely fabulous book that had it all!
I just love this book! It truly covers everything I would want to know! It gives great info on the foods and drinks used for ceremony and holidays that are quite easy to make. She also has wonderful recipes for wines and meads which I didn't expect! There are herbal remedies for healing and magik as well as essential oils and recipes for different Goddesses. It is worth every penny and stuffed to the edges with information to truly make your practice your own. The only thing I wish she had done is put the amounts of ingredients in some of the remedies. For me being familiar with making salves and balms I can eyeball the amount of beeswax and have it come out perfect. Yet, I gave a copy to my friend, who is just beginning, and she couldn't get the consistency right because she had no experience. Without experience you won't know the consistency until it cools down, so I have a little trick I taught my friend, and I'll share with those of you new to salves and balms. While adding the beeswax or other emulsifier add a little at a time on low heat in a double boiler. In little intervals take a teaspoon full and cool it down quickly by sitting it in the freezer. If it's thick and you like the consistency stop there. If you want it thicker add some more and check again. If you added too much add a little liquid to thin it out a bit. Remember adding too much will make it too waxy and it will just sit on top of the skin and nothing will absorb. Hope this helps those that are just beginning. This book is so very worth getting even with some recipes not having quite enough info. In fact I am giving one to a friend practicing for many years and another to a friend just entering the craft. Blessings to all!

The most useful book I've ever purchased
Let me tell you something. I've been interested in homesteading my entire life and have never found a good single resource for it. Anything that I've looked at related to zero waste or homesteading just didn't cut it for me as being "the one". I stumbled across this in my research on Hearth Witches and this book is FABULOUS. It teaches you EVERYTHING - from how to make jam and chutney, pickles, wine, beauty products, laundry soap (have you ever heard about soap nuts? I didn't until this book!), cleaners, medical applications for herbs, magical recipes for the pagan holidays, even ink for writing! And that barely scratches the surface. I'm so happy to have found this book, and I've already pre-ordered her next book. Can't wait to see what it contains!

If you're not a vegetarian/vegan, I wouldn't waste your time
So maybe I missed it somewhere, but uh... This book is made up of entirely vegan/vegetarian meals/drinks. Which, I'm not knocking, to each their own, but I am not a vegetarian, and I would've liked to see some variety in the dishes. As it stands, for my ranching family, these meals would not go over well.Like I said, it had a lot of info, and a lot of recipes... just wish I'd realized it was vegan/vegetarian before I bought.

Wonderful, easy to read
Received this book in the mail today, and read the entire thing. I could not put it down. Wonderful, easy to read, down-to-earth style of writing, and full of information that I can't wait to put into use. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Incredibly English and so many questionable recipes I can't tell which ones would actually work
The author is very proud to practice a very English tradition (good for her) but she writes what I'm assuming is her specific brand of magic. The food and ingredients are pretty stock English fare and the description of the traditional celebrations hits all the basic stereotypes you would assume and has a very pointed focus on the cycle of fertility. As it to the point where she gives one sentence to winter ending/plants coming back to life then PARAGRAPHS on how the god and goddess are gonna get frisky to conceive for the year since that's all Beltane's about, clearly. It feels very navel gaze-y and slightly gatekeep-y. If you're in the very classic English tradition, you'll probably not see an issue but it feels weird to someone who isn't.I could ignore that (what else do you expect from a Llewellyn book?) but the recipes are.... off. One of the recipes for "The traditional foods of Beltane" calls for 4 tomatoes so that unit of measurement automatically knocks out any preserved kinds but even here in one of the warmest growing environment's in the US we are lucky to barely begin picking the first few tomatoes from our gardens by the beginning of May. The recipes for Beltane are few and mostly heavy fare as well which is odd for the end/height of spring. Honestly paging through the recipes, there's a ton of heavier or warmer dishes. There's also a lot of recipes for traditional Christian English foods for adjacent holidays listed as "traditional" pagan foods, which isn't stellar. I bought a book for witches, I don't want an Ostara recipe for Simnel Cake where I'm told "This is a traditional Easter Cake. The thirteen decorations represent Jesus and the twelve apostles but are equally applicable to the thirteen lunar months of the year." That's a direct quote and there are some more recipes not far off that.Lastly, and what really makes me question all the recipes in this book to the point I'll be giving this book away, in the recipes for house cleaners the "antibacterial" spray is just water with a little bit of essential oils. Aka it's not truly cleaning anything that water can't.

A Great Collection
What a lovely, comprehensive book! The author is a true natural practitioner of the Craft, working in harmony with the cycles of the Earth. This volume is chock full of wonderful recipes for those like myself who enjoy crafting their own oils, incenses and household products, who believe that the sacred and mundane share the same space.

Inspirational magical book!
This is a truly fabulous book, written in Anna Franklin's usual clear, informative style, containing a wealth of detailed information and recipes that I am now excited to try! These are divided up into sections, with the food and drink based ones in the opening chapters, followed by personal and household care before moving on to gardening and plant based work, (both medicinal and magical herbs, incenses and natural dyes). She rounds the book off with a few chapters of helpful information concerning correspondences, weights and measurements, plus even a few pages to record your own (although I have to say it, brief, recipes) a small bibliography and very extensive index. My copy of this book looks set to become a much thumbed source of inspiration, guidance and happy days in the kitchen and garden!

Amazing!
The *best* witchy book I have ever bought!! It contains everything you could possibly need to know to fully embrace the life of a hearth witch and then some. It covers the sabbats, preserves, making wine, beer & cider, natural cleaning products, bath, body & beauty recipes, the witch's garden, home remedies for loads of ailments, essential oils, herbalism, incense, dyes, correspondences... Seriously, if you are at all into making your own witchy products, or even just weaving a little more magick into your everyday life then this book is for you. I haven't put it down since it arrived!

I really wanted to love this. Too many non-magical recipes and teas that you could get from most herb books. The essential oil section is good though.
