Electro-Voice ETX18SP 18" 1800 Watt Powered Subwoofer

Damn... that was my thought the first time I turned one of these loose. Bass so deep you feel in your chest. Yet so clean your can't believe it's live audio. Now I'll be upfront I'm not a pro DJ gigging these everyday. But I am an experienced audio snob with years of home theater and music experience. I bring that as my comparison. Frankly they sound nearly as clean as my SVS PB-3000 sub. Not bad considering how much more output they can put out. My use case is as a indoor / outdoor music and movie setup. They don't disappoint. I know there's complaints about the amp hermal throttling. I can't comment. But I'll say if you're running headroom issues, usually a second speaker solves the problem. The cabinets are great. They're not that much heavier (on paper) than the EKX 18s, but size makes them feel twice as heavy. The included casters are a god send. And they aren't cheap nor do they rattle. Everything about the ETX line is well thought out with sound quality being top of the priority list. The on board LCD and crossover work well with other EV PAs. They have general settings for mixed brands. There's no on board Blutooth or wireless which feels like a miss to me. Overall these are bass cannons that do what they claim. Large venues or outdoors. Rich clean bass is what you'll get.

Got this thing for my sound system at work, best purchase ever made.

The box was apparently mishandled during shipping due to the Amazon tape used to keep the box together. I watched the people unloaded it very carefully so the damage to the box must have happened at the warehouse or distribution center. When I opened the box there were some cosmetic damages I probably would have over looked but I had a party same day it was delivered and it worked fine. However,The next day I set up for an event and mid way through my event my woofer just stopped working. The amplifier was getting signal but no sound was coming out. I have to return this and move on with some other options.

I have 2 of these models, both have had the driver shred into nothingness. Now you might think I over drived them, I can assure you that these speakers were never turned up passed +1DB on the volume control, and set at 80hz. I am so disappointed in these speakers. Paper speakers thin, zero throw rate. The AMP and cabinet is decent. I am now looking for a replacement driver that is NOT an EV Driver. Last time I buy one of these.
