Summary, Review & Analysis: Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10 by Marcus Luttrell

Being very liberal, I was at first hesitant about Lone Survivor. Right away the overview mentions Marcus being very conservative and blaming liberals for everything that is wrong with the country. I wasn’t sure I wanted to read that view through a whole book. However, the claims that it offers readers “a stunning glimpse into the bravery and patriotism of America’s military forces” and “what our military endures in service to our country” caught my attention. I decided to give it a try.Although I am a bit personally disappointed in Marcus, the lone survivor of the title (mostly because we do not share the same political views and it gets tiresome reading from the perspective of someone you disagree with), I am pleased with the story. His mission to inform the families of his fallen troop is honorable, and it was obviously important to him. It was of great importance to tell the families how brave each member acted. All in all, it is almost shocking to read what they have gone through. While not a light easy read, it is one that I enjoyed on a deeper level, as it has given me a new understanding of what our troops go through on a daily basis.

Marcus Luttrell's "Lone Survivor" recounts his trying time as a Navy Seal during a difficult operation in Afghanistan. When I look past the extreme right-wing views posed by Luttrell (which this review so conveniently mentions), I see an honorable man who is passionate about his country and served it well. This summary is thorough and non-biased, and the key points from each chapter are certainly appreciated. Overall, this review is thorough and helpful; It encouraged me to keep an open mind about "Lone Survivor," and enjoy the heart-wrenching adventures upon which this author embarked.

This was a very eye opening book as to what is really going on in the war. It is a very interest read. I would recommend to everyone to read.
