Simple, Nutritious Meal Ideas for a Healthy Life
I have Ella's original cookbook Deliciously Ella so I wanted to try this one for even more delicious recipes that are healthy and nourishing. The first recipe that I tried was the zucchini and carrot salad. It was so incredibly easy and the dressing was simple and delicious. Even my husband liked it! What I find the most significant about Ella's recipes and food philosophy is that it really does matter what we put into our bodies. And it can change the way we feel, the way we look and our overall health. On a personal note, over the Summer, I had gotten away from healthy eating because of lack of convenience (one of the reasons I purchased this book). As a result, I had been feeling incredibly sluggish, total lack of energy, my skin and hair had started to look dull and lifeless and I just didn't have a glow at all. In short, I wasn't giving my body what it needed and boy did it show! I felt pretty awful: aches and pains and soreness where I would have to take aspirin or ibuprofen to get rid of it. I felt just all around lousy. This was my body giving me signals to get straight: seriously. As soon as I started eating healthy again, I started to feel amazing. My energy levels started to improve, I slept better, and my skin started to glow with less wrinkles and my skin is much more hydrated. That haggard, tired look started to fade and I felt soooo much better. I started drinking a lot more water and herbal teas adding baobab powder, maca powder etc. when possible...After I had a cup of Rooibos tea, I literally looked better 15 minutes in. Amazing. So, I have incorporated these recipes into my rotations and I'm thrilled with them. I can't begin to say enough how important it really is to take care of and nourish your body with healthy foods and to just let the junk and processed foods go once and for all. I know that I won't ever be going back to eating or drinking junk again. Thanks to Ella for the lovely cookbook and yummy healthy combinations!!

Inspirational but not necessarily practical
Ella Woodward is a whiz at marketing. Her cookbooks look amazing and she writes in a super enthusiastic way that makes every recipe sound both easy and delicious. For that reason, it's a very inspirational recipe book but I have to say that there weren't a huge number of recipes that appealed to me in it. She does tend to use the same ingredients again and again: cashews, miso, maple syrup...they all feel a little repetitive.I think her books are good if you are a single person or maybe a couple. They don't really deliver on the family recipe front. There are very few recipes here that my 12 and 15 year old sons would eat and the ones that they would eat tend to be variations on things we already make eg spaghetti carbonara, tomato pasta, veggie paella. But if you're looking for ideas for healthy breakfasts and lunches on the go, this is a terrific source. Her salads in particular have some terrific flavours.Specifically, I have a couple of complaints. Firstly, she tends to under-explain recipes which as a less than confident cook I find annoying. For example, her Pasta Arrabbiata recipe says "put the dried oregano, thyme, chilli and garlic into a frying pan with the olive oil. Let these cook while you cut the cherry tomatoes into quarters". Call me old fashioned, but I prefer recipes that use words like "low heat" or "keep moving in the pan" or "soften slightly". I don't like cookbooks that assume that I know what I'm doing, because I often don't!Secondly, her ingredients are not infrequently either hard to locate (vanilla powder? baobab powder?) or FREAKING EXPENSIVE when you do. For example, her recipe for Chocolate Caramel Slices looks pretty yummy but I will not be making it because to produce 16 pieces I need to use a whopping 950g (2 lb) of medjool dates! That's more than the cost of the recipe book and it's only for ONE of the ingredients!

Similar to the first book but better layout and focus
I like this book better than her first one because she seems to have ironed out some of the issues I noticed in its predecessor. For one thing, the book is much better organized into sections like Breakfast, Eating on the go, or cooking for crowds. When I cook, I usually go by meals not ingredients because unless I buy specific ingredients for a dish, I just grab whatever is in the fridge or pantry. Much like her first book, the recipes are pretty simple like pasta arrabbiata (takes no time to make and is always a quick lunch/dinner favorite) or cashew pesto (very good on roasted chicken with pasta). She tends to use the same ingredients: tanhni, chili flakes, maple syrup, or quinoa. It's not exactly creative, but these are pretty easy to find in most stores. The measures vastly improved for this book. It uses grams and not "mug" measurements like the 1st book. I own a kitchen scale because I prefer baking/cooking like this but it's definitely helpful when the measurements are correct. While the book isn't the most creative, I think it's a great base for introducing your own flare like roasted meats or different cheeses or whatever. The desserts do need some rising agents like eggs or baking powder, which I know she doesn't use, but they are essential to a successful bake. The book isn't groundbreaking or my favorite in my cookbook collection but I appreciate its simplicity.

Vegetarian Inspiring.
I would rate this as one of my favorite inspiring books for a vegetarian/vegan, plant-based diet; the photos and recipes are filled with yumminess and creativity. I always love it when a recipe uses lots of vegetables and fruits.

Amazing recipes!
You know how a lot of vegan cookbooks try to imitate traditional meals, but more often than not they end up having wrong taste or texture and you end up disappointed, missing your old eating habits? For years we've been looking for a vegan recipe book that would contain delicious recipes that would make us forget all about meat, dairy and all the other unhealthy foods from our past diet. And finally we've found it! Some of these recipes are soooo good - we can't get enough of them! And even when you cook a vegan Carbonara from this book - it is not trying to be like 'the real Carbonara', so instead of getting a pale copy you get a completely different meal, that has its own unique taste, texture and feel! Our favourite recipes are Maple Roasted Sprouts, Warming Potato Mash Bowl (with incredible kale crisps), Butternut Squash & Chickpea Salad. Most recipes have a little bit of a 'kick' to them, which is great for the winter - prevents you from craving rich and heavy meals. The sweets are incredibly delicious, but sometimes it seems a bit cruel to use half a kilo of medjool dates on one dessert. There wouldn't be enough dates in the world if we all wanted to stick to this kind of diet...All in all, can't recommend this book enough, there's not enough words of praise to do it justice! Get it, get it now! :)

Fantastic book
Before writing this review I have genuinely tried most of the recipes. I am not vegetarian or vegan but very interested in nutrition and love cooking healthy food, overall I love this cookbook, it’s full of easy interesting veggie recipes some of which have become firm favourites I make on a regular basis. The tumeric hummus is amazing, it’s my absolute favourite go to hummus recipe, I regularly make the quinoa chickpea tumeric curry and sweet potato cakes too, favourites from her first book like the black bean veggie chilli and butternut squash risotto are also regular dishes. It’s completely changed my diet in terms of I now eat more veggie dishes than meat. The only negative for me is the desserts, I’ve tried a few and they just don’t work for me at all, the recipes using mashed bananas or applesauce just turn out wet and tasteless, I made a batch of brownies that were so inedible i chucked them in the bin. Plus quite a few need large quantities of maple syrup and coconut sugar making them expensive and quite unhealthy. Otherwise my go to book for veggie starters and mains.

Inspiring cookbook
I'm not vegan or vegetarian but eat a mainly vegetarian diet. I've had a couple of vegan meals recently and enjoyed them so much I was inspired to look out a cookbook which would allow me to try some exciting recipes for myself. I landed on this one due to the reviews. I've leafed through it a couple of times since receiving it a few days ago and I've cooked two kale recipes from it - absolutely delicious! I embellished the dish with a lovely fillet of roast trout, and these recipes allow you to do that. That said, there are many recipes which won't need adding to and I'm committing us to eating at least two meals from this book every week. There is not a single recipe in this book that I would not attempt and I would highly recommend it.

Love this book
Great book, lots of great ideas with relatively simple ingredients. Once you buy a supply of items, there are lots of recipes to use them and different things to try. Nothing takes too long to make and some really great ideas. Love this book, highly recommended

I wasn't convinced, but it's worth a go
Have spent a couple of months living and breathing the recipes in this book. Some are better than others, but if you're sceptical, I'd say give it a go. She uses a range of ingredients that I was unfamiliar with to begin with, but some have become a staple of my diet as good alternatives to less healthy options.
