Don't know what I'd do without my Merthiolate! Thank heavens I can find it here and not just the 'Mercuraclear". I do not like that 'clear' stuff. It smells bad, it burns and it doesn't work!This Merthiolate is what my mom used when I was a kid on the farm. (She also used Iodine, but this isn't about that!)This works super well without stinging the snot out of you! Literally, some things burn so bad your nose runs! I use this on every SMALL would we get. Scratches, bites, scrapes, etc. I know it says not to, but we've always used it for sores inside our mouths, too. It's what mom did and it's our "go to" medicine. Just a dab on a Q-Tip will get rid of a mouth sore in a couple of days, sometimes overnight. I wouldn't be without this. I have one in each medicine cabinet and one in our First Aid Kit as well. Don't want to run out!

They took this product off the market many years ago because it contained mercury. Now this NEW merthiolate is mercury-free and is a great antiseptic. It has the chemical plus alcohol. Very effective when used to treat small cuts, etc. I bought a 3-pack!!

When I was little, every "boo boo" we kids got was covered with Merthiolate. We didn't really like it, but my dad was and still is a firm believer in its ability to kill germs. Unfortunately, Merthiolate isn't available on store shelves and longer and my dad really wanted to have some on hand, so I started searching and found this on Amazon. He was thrilled when I gave it to him in his Christmas basket. He was like a kid with a new toy. I cannot say whether or not Merthiolate is a magic germ killer, but it made my dad happy and that is all that mattered to me.

Great on ulcers in the mouth and painting the throat when it is sore. This really works. On scratches and scrapes it is effective also. Everyone in my family has some at their home.

bought this item thinking it was the stuff i used as a kid but, it has changed have been told the stuff years ago had a now banned substance in it

This is a dangerous product. 1. It stains. Took me several days to wash the stain off my fingers. Skin cells fall off. But if it fell on carpet or tile, you would never get the stain out. 2. It stings worse than anything I've ever used before. I have no doubt that if I had gotten any in my eyes, I would have had eye damage to some extent. 3. This is not the same product that I've received from Amazon before. The other merthiolate is clear and doesn't sting at all. So, I'm wondering why Amazon decided to change vendors?

Just not like the one mom used.

This product arrived very quickly after I placed the order. I was expecting clear Merthiolate not the red stuff. I does stain the skin and I was looking for the clear like they used to make.
