The Gospel in Genesis: From Fig Leaves to Faith

Insightful, Compelling, Inspiring
This was a very insightful book. So many intriguing connections and profound ideas. It definitely deepened my understanding and appreciation for Genesis.Dr. Martyn Lloyd Jones points out that the Bible, and in particular the book of Genesis, is the more relevant book in the world today. It is more relevant and timely than today's news. It reveals the nature of man and why the world is the way it is more poignantly and accurately than all the philosophers and psychiatrists throughout history combined.I will admit that it's not always an easy book to read. It drags a bit sometimes as the author expounds on a particular reality of modern society. Yet, getting through these parts was always worth it, as there was so much meat to be enjoyed. So, lots of meat... a little bit of gristle. This book will be added to the list of books I wish to reread from time to time.

Very good
A good book in relation to the Gospel seen and explained in Genesis. For me Lloyd Jones has a tendency to over explain in his writings and this book is no exception but I would highly recommend it.

Great Book. Get it and Read the MLJ Nuggets of Wisdom
I have heard about MLJ - and talked with a representative of the MLJ Trust years ago. The people that speak of MLJ - speak about him with great admiration and respect. In reading this, I am getting a little glimpse of that in this book.It is excellent. The sermons turned into chapters are packed with wisdom and insights. The whole book was excellent front to back, but the first few sermon / chapters were as good as any in terms of my sense of enjoyment. Great communicator and thinker. Looking to read more.

Refreshing Biblical Explanation
If you have friends that are reluctant to approach the Bible and perhaps not ready to work through deep books like Mere Christianity, let me wholeheartedly recommend this book. Lloyd-Jones is a gifted expository writer and in the first chapter alone he captures the reader with an easy to follow outline of who we are and what the Bible has to say about us, our world and our God.He brings the Bible and the Gospel message alive in compelling steps that are easy to follow and most importantly, convicting. He reasons with the reader, speaks to you plainly but with truth. As you read, the logic, the message and the reality of the Bible come alive. A must addition to your library, and a wonderful gift for a friend who is on a journey to discover whether they can believe what the Bible says. It is the Gospel message, clearly presented and highly approachable for any reader, especially someone new to the idea of Christianity.

Typical MLJ
MLJ has a searching, thoughtful approach to preaching. He is not exegetically or technically focused. He is purpose and message focused. This collection of messages is no different. He finds the message and application of the Old Testament narratives and applies it sweetly to his readers. There aren't many examples of Old Testament messages he has preached. Most know him for his work on Romans or Ephesians. Here we find a searching method of application based preaching which proves his Old Testament preaching was as Christ focused as His New Testament preaching. Much of the the theme of his exposition of Genesis could be summarized as Loving God's Word in a fallen world that hates it.

A favorite book of mine.
I've found this book very helpful in evangelizing. In fact I have bought several and have sent them to friends and family through out the US. As an evangelist I've found that explaining the very first story of Adam & Eve is so vital in understanding the rest of the bible. MLJ has a way of helping a person sort out and organize a persons thoughts, so that the Holy Spirit can do His job of convicting and moving the information from his head to his heart. Many times after explaining this very story the responce is " oh, so that's what God did for us". Many know what was done at the cross, but the why seems to be missing. And yes the why is because our sins are separating us from God, but there's also the "why me". This book helps to see that answer from Gods perspective.

The Word pierces us to the dividing of soul and spirit! Magnificent book!
This is a powerful book exalting Our Lord Jesus Christ. Pastor Lloyd-Jones, brilliantly, presents the Gospel and the need of redemption from a study of some chapters of the book of Genesis. He also depicts our depravity and the propensity to sin that can only be solved by turning to Jesus Christ. The applications he makes for his time (some ten years after WW II) fits perfectly to our world today. What a joy to read such well written text. They are difficult lessons to listen, but essential for receiving eternal life as a gift from Our Lord. A must read for Christians and a great book to be given for those that are skeptics as well.

Classic Lloyd-Jones
If you have ever read Lloyd-Jones, then this will be classic Lloyd-Jones to you. His works are written from the heart of a pastor, with simple yet profound truths exposited for theologian and lay man alike.I found this particular work great, because it unloads several difficult doctrines found in the 3rd chapter of Genesis in a way that only he can.J.C. Ryle once wrote, "A right knowledge of sin lies at the root of all saving Christianity". This book shows us our sin, its cause and cure, in a way only Lloyd-Jones could deliver!
