Saga of the Rings
I purchased 3 Kotulas 48 inch corrugated galvanized steel planter rings. The original plan was to use them as bottomless raised beds to lift early season vegetables out of the Western Washington mud in an attempt to extend our dismally short growing season. I had already purchased the 24 inch model planter in July of 2019 and it was competent, so the die was cast for a multi-unit purchase of the larger rings. I'm not sure what kind of metal these are made of, but a magnet will stick to it and there is no observable rust after several years in the ground. Yes, they are described as 'galvanized' but product descriptions can just as likely to refer to paint color as the material an item is actually made of. These are robust and holding up well. The rings arrived quickly and in good condition, with no missing parts or added dents. Some effort was required to remove the blue plastic covering, especially where the metal is rolled at the edge. One trick is to trim the plastic where it enters the rolled seam with a razor blade. This way torn fragments aren't visible and time isn't spent trying to pull it out of the seam in bits at a time.During assembly it became clear that each quarter circle segment was not a consistent arc but rather an arc flanked by two flats. It may be that the flats make it easier to connect the curved pieces to straight segments when constructing the elongated 'Circus Maximus' configuration of the planters, and the round options use the same stock parts. Regardless of the intent of the manufacturing process, when assembled the circles did not appear round. This is apparent if you closely inspect the product image and I would not deduct points for this even though it is not exactly what I wanted.Since I wanted round planters that actually appeared as round when viewed from multiple angles (i.e., as one is walking through the garden) it was evident that some post-purchase modification would be required. The remainder of this review details this processing.I decided to cut the flats off of each quarter segment and make smaller but rounder circles. Measurements determined that removing 4 or 5 inches from each end of a segment would produce a continuous arc. I tried cutting with hack saw but this was problematic. I had been planning on buying a nibbling tool and this project overcame the contemplative inertia. It worked perfectly for this. If you try this be cautioned that nibbling tools can be very loud and produce lots of wickedly sharp chaff.Arranging the cut segments on the ground revealed that they now formed a competent circle, but with the reduced length an additional segment would be required to complete the ring. Since I originally had 3 rings (and a total of 12 segments), 2 competent rings of 5 segments each could be completed with 2 segments left over for use in other schemes. The modified ring is 43 inches in diameter and forms a circle that looks like a circle when viewed from any position. If you are as obsessed with geometric precision as I am and aren't interested in a metal fabrication project then you may want to consider another product. If you don't have convenient access to sections of real galvanized culvert pipe or want to install a ring around existing trees, this stuff ships inexpensively and can easily be installed around existing landscape elements regardless of height.

love love love
Such a pretty little bed! I bought two! The plastic peel off part isn't fun nor easy but they shipped here safely and we love them a ton. I have filled them with about 1/2 a yard of compost and soil blend. When I placed down I cut the boxes up for underneath then filled with my mix. A couple months later we planted them full of veggies. Looking amazing and I'm certain these will last for many many years to come. I want to buy more but they are out of stock. I hope they come back into stock!

Just wish these were cheaper.
I have ordered 3 of these for raised garden beds. The first two I ordered directly from the supplier and they charged me for shipping. Same cost through Amazon, but no shipping fees! These are very sturdy, and easy to assemble EXCEPT they come covered in a sticky backed film/tape to protect the surface and it is a real pain to remove. It's quite time consuming and seems very unnecessary because it's galvanized metal that already has some flaws from the manufacturing process. I add an 'aged' patina to them, so the irregularities don't bother me, buy be aware that they are there.

Great product, just what I wanted and Kotulas is a nice company to deal with.
I was very pleased with the planter. The only problem that I had was that some of the hardware (screws/nuts and washers) were missing. It looks like they must have fallen out of the box during shipment. Kotulas was unable to supply replacement hardware but offered me a couple of options to make the issue not a problem. Returning the item was also offered. I got replacement hardware at the local hardware store and it went together very easily. I must be strange because I enjoyed pealing off the blue plastic wrap and mine came off very easy. Can’t wait to fill it with potting mix and start going veggies.

Waste of money and later time!
Product is ok...just ok. The problem I really have is with the seller. Missing hardware to assemble planter. Seller acts like they don’t understand what I need. No help so far. Avoiding contacting me. Third party seller so Amazon cannot or will not help. Seller is playing games because they are so smart and I am so dumb. Calling BBB next.

Highly recommend, looks great in my yard!
I bought the round raised bed to go around a tree. It looks great. Like other reviews, the protective cover was a bit of a challenge but not bad enough to complain. Easy to assemble and very pleased with my purchase.

Planters beautiful, packaging not earth friendly
These planters are nice quality and would be easy to assemble if blue shrink wrap was not used to protect in shipping. I love the durability and look but will think twice before ordering again because it took me twice as long to peel off blue film as it took to assemble, the film is NOT recycleable and takes a lot of room in garbage can. Please bring back lightweight corrugated cardboard for protection.
