I love adventure but at the same time have heard on ...
I am enjoying reading this book. I am 56 years old and disabled. My income doesn't go very far anymore and I had been reading a lot in AARP and other magazines about how much more economical it was to live overseas. I love adventure but at the same time have heard on the news , so many horror stories from overseas, that living there had never really seemed appealing. This book has made me feel differently. I din't realize there were actually communities of Americans already living overseas, so cheaply and enjoying it and have been for many years. We never see any of the good things and maybe it's because the US doesn't want us to know these things. I feel our country is declining so badly, we might actually be safer moving out. The book in no way implies any of this, these are my opinions, but the book does tell you the difference in living, healthcare, and eating in many different areas, not to mention the better climate. It's a great read and I at least want to take a vacation at some of these spots.

Start your research here -- even if you already think you know where you want to live overseas
Given the scope of countries covered, there is a lot of good information here. Also, good advice for things one might not think of before deciding where to live. Many of us (myself included) have a fantasy of living on or right next to a beautiful tropical beach. The authors encourage us to consider whether we will enjoy that same beach throughout the year -- even at its buggiest, hottest and most humid; or whether that charming village is as quiet (roosters? motorcycles? nonstop parties) as we might imagine. They suggest we consider the isolation that a language barrier can create; and they survey the differing cost and quality of medical care from country to country. This is only some of the planning advice offered by the authors, who have lived abroad for years in various places. This book is an excellent place to start thinking about and researching living abroad.

Looking for a better Life
I was looking for a comprehensive book that gave facts as well as individual experiences...I also have their magazine," International Living" that comes to my home... this publication develops in this same way...facts mixed with stories from expats, that are in the "now" of actually living in another country and finding that the problems that do arise are fixable. All this information aids in making this important change to my life. Maybe my future is unknown...still undecided of where ...with whom I will share this adventure. Feeling that...All... things are possible...A big Thanks to Suzan Haskins for her research and life experiences that make this book a must have. One that anyone who is serious about making this positive forward moving step.. into the unknown...can see the value... that this book makes in your search for you own 'path of Happiness" in another culture and land...well, having knowledge reduces the stress...so Thank You So Much for your words of wisdom...Smile!!! Sincerely Kathy Andrews

The Book is Ok, the Magazine? I don't know .. yet!
So the book is just ok, bought it used cheap , just a good starter its more of an overview and does not get into any specifics plus its old. I have looked at some places they say where "you can get great deals on homes"- eh... not necessarily. It is all dependent on where and since its a foreign country, we don't know if its safe etc in that specific area.Like most books, its a what you can do.. but it is Not a How To Book.If one thing holds true is we get what we pay for, cheap house- cheap area? Maybe not such a good deal. Also, as a side note I subscribed to their magazine in Jan, no issues yet. Emailed them twice asking when will the magazine arrive? No reply, Also International magazine tries to nickel and dime upsell you on everything, some of the things they are pushing cost up to $500 . For me, they can't answer about a magazine subscription? No way they are getting $500 out of me.

AN EXCELLENT GUIDE FOR MOVING ABROAD!
I have been researching about moving abroad for some time and thought I knew pretty much of what I needed to know. However, I was pleasantly surprised there were many beneficial and important bits of information, some of which I had not even thought about.I felt it was well written and researched. Sometimes (not many) I found some topics could have gone into more depth. I would recommend this book for anyone thinking about or planning to move overseas. It gives a very realistic view of what to expect, both the good and the not-so-good.Also, it needs to be mentioned that both of the authors have spent many years living abroad in several destinations. They are both very seasoned travelers and the reader can feel confident and comfortable relying on their information. It was an interesting and enjoyable read.

Don't Be Afraid to Retire. The Dream May Still Be Possible.
Simplictic and enticing introduction to how to have a whole new advernture living outside the U. S. during our retirement years on a smaller budget than it probably takes. I wish I had been younger when I was first introduced to this information. I would have looked into this more carefully had I been at the front end of my retirement years, and not already in my mid-term. With the turmoil both here and elsewhere in the world, it makes so much sense to live our (old) retirement dream where now it may still be possible. Take a look! I doubt actually doing it is any more risky than staying here, ten years from now.

A lot of Great Information
The main focus of the book is moving from America and Canada to Mexico, Central, or South America. There is some information on Europe, but the main focus is South of the U.S. There was a lot of very good information and questions that you should consider prior to making a move. After reading this book I'm planning trips to some countries I hadn't considered before. The one thing they don't mention is home exchanging. I plan to investigate some target countries via home exchanges. Since the premise of their book is saving, I'm surprised they don't mention that as a cost effective way of making extended visits to a target country for investigation.I still need to investigate some of the web links provided, but overall a great resource if you've ever considered moving overseas.
