Adequate, reliable, but a bit inflexible to use and program
Dependable, but not quite as easy to program as you would expect. Vitlaly, it tracks my heart rate flawlessly, so that is cleary a big plus.It takes quite a bit of effort to set up, and getting the range set for the Heart rate alarms takes quite a bit of trial and error. (I depend on the alarms to remind me to slow down my exercise pace, to prevent injury). The strap is very, very comfortable, and I really like that you can detach the monitor to permit a good cleaning of the strap. What you get, and my quick rating1. Indiglo nightlight: 2 0f 5: too weak, barely stays on for 2 seconds2. Target heart rate zones including time in zone and average heart rate for workout and lap: 4 of 5, difficult to customise.3. Calories burned and percentage of max heart display: 3 of 5, not very flexible4. Graphic heart rate zone display: 5 of 5: clear, large, good display5. Buckle clasp: 5 of 5: very easy to use, and secure6. Digital display: 4 of 5, easy to read except at night.7. Water resistant to 330' (100 meters): guessing 5 of 5: certainly shower8. Case dimensions: 39mm x 13mm: 4 of 5: a tiny bit bulky, but not uncomfortably so9. Strap dimensions: 22mm x 8": 5 of 5: though a really large person may find it tight10. Requires 1 CR2025 battery (included) 5 of 5 in my experience for durability

Basic and Very Serviceable
For years as a bicyclist I've used heart monitors with chest-strap sending units and have never had a problem with discomfort, etc. This Timex is fine and gives me the basic information I want. I don't need to send the info to an app or for storage in the cloud: I record the stats in a notebook. Oh my, how backward -- but how convenient, how simple, and how not-a-big-waste-of-time. I can see my stats in a second and see trends and whatever else I need to see. This Timex replaces a Phase 4 that was giving me trouble and seems to be a lot more accurate. I'm doing the exact same exercise DVDs so comparisons are pretty easy: I'm astonished at how many more calories the Timex is recording. So I'm happy with this HRM but I wish the sending unit chest strap was of higher quality since an answer to a question I posted seemed to indicate that the Timex chest straps are not interchangeable. That's a bummer because this chest strap is not going to hold up but given what the HRM cost, I can't complain. It's pretty serviceable, very accurate and that's what I wanted.

Good for the price, doubt accuracy
I bought this HRM almost 3 months ago to begin various video workouts at home as well as during biking on the road and mountain biking. It was easy to setup and use. It start monitoring my beats within 10 seconds after pressing the start button; I do use electrode gel on the sensors every single time to improve contact with the skin and had no issues with the device not working properly. My only doubt is with the accuracy of the unit. It states nearly 700 calories burned while doing T25 Alpha workouts and over 1,000 for P90X, one hour of road biking (13-16 mph) or 45 minutes of mountain biking (8-10 mph). I also use it on a kickboxing workout and it showed 1,200 calories burned in 45 minutes. These numbers seem a bit higher for me, however I have no other method to confirm/deny the readings at this time. And then again, it might be right since I'm on the heavy side (235 lbs, 39yrs), but I will like to confirm it with an alternate method/device before giving it 5 stars. Until then and maybe 35 pound lighter...

Woman's Version?
This appears to be a woman’s version of the Timex pulse monitor since the strap is slimmed down and slightly shorter than on the two former versions of this watch that I purchased previously. It fits OK, but as a man I have a preference for the larger strap. These pulse monitors are quite accurate when relatively new, but as the receiver (the watch) gets older it may temporarily/unpredictably give wildly inaccurate readings. You can confirm the accuracy on a treadmill using the hand grips or on the treadmill display if the display works with this brand—many do. A reading on the display will remain accurate even if the watch receiver is not working. After a few runs you will be able to guess the approximate pulse and wild departures are obvious. My new one works fine, but I may switch to a different Times model (or brand) next time because of the girlie strap.

Got the new one programed and it started working easily enough. It wasn't but a couple of months ...
I bought this nearly a year ago to replace another Timex that I believed wore out. Got the new one programed and it started working easily enough. It wasn't but a couple of months later it apparently failed and gave erratic readings from 60 to 160 all while I was exercising. I attempted to reset it and start over and it would no longer give any type of reading. I placed it out of the way and planned to forget about it. A few weeks later for fun, I replaced the battery in the chest strap and it began to work again. I was surprised that the new battery with the new product didn't last more than a couple months. Maybe I expected too much. So I have come to find out, it now works as long as the sensor battery is kept fresh. I'm now on my 4th replacement battery in 11 months..I know now when it starts acting strange replace the battery. By the way the wrist monitor has had no problem with the battery so far.

At 64 years old I was charging up hills to exhaustion like I've done for decades
I found this heart rate monitor to be very helpful in giving me a "visual" display of my exertion level. At 64 years old I was charging up hills to exhaustion like I've done for decades. Since I was racing my heart above the 100% recommendation for my age - (160 to 168 BPM) I realized the need for me to tone it down. I think this unit may be instrumental in keeping me out of some emergency room or worse. I would give it 4,5 stars - my only complaint being what I perceive to be weaknesses in usability - not as intuitive as I'd like. BUT I'm challenged tech wise. A GREAT buy for the money
