I don't use lifting gear often.... but when I do, I use Schiek Hooks!
I have been lifting for over 10 years now. Traditionally I have trained completely raw and chalk has been my best friend. In fact, I used to make fun of people who use gloves and wraps, 'Does your purse match your gloves?'. Anywho, one of my buddies brought these to the gym. After making fun of him for supplementing his weak grip with hooks he convinced me to try them out. I will never go back to doing raw dumbbell rows again! If you have been lifting as long as I have, you undoubtedly have callouses on your hands just like me. Dumbbell rows are perhaps the single most brutal method to aggravate callouses (for some reason deadlift doesn't bother them). No matter how firmly I grip the dumbbell, rows always painfully pull at them; especially with the 150s!. These hooks alleviate this issue for me and actually bring the joy back to rowing. From this day forward there will not be a back day where I won't have these guys by my side. That being said don't over use them. I exclusively employ them for dumbbell row ONLY. There is no supplement for a good grip and using them throughout your suite of back exercises will only make you weaker. Also a tip: I like using the hooks offset such that the hook portion starts at my pinky and covers just below the index finger. This enables you to wrap your index finger and thumb around the dumbbell and gives you greater control through the movement.Well constructed and durable, these hooks will be part of my lifting arsenal for a long time to come.

Hand size dependent
I have been lifting for a long time and do a lot of bodybuilding. I tend to injure my forearm often during my bulking phases. This is very problematic because the forearm is a critical point for 90 percent of upper body lifts. I tried using these in order to side-step the forearm problem and still be able to bulk super heavy. The hooks are incredibly sturdy and well made. MAJOR ISSUE-> for the size of my hand (average) the hook was too low and strained my forearm. If you have bigger hands I would suggest this and it would be an incredible tool but for anyone with small to average hands don't even spend your money.... Just use the old-school wraps..

Excellent for any exercise in which you pull towards your body.
I have problems gripping a bar when I use heavy weights, so first I purchased and tried the wrist straps but they didn't work for me at all (too hard to use). So then I tried these hooks and these are so much better and easier to use! They really help me hold a bar for longer sets with heavier weights. The hooks are not intended to bear all of the weight (although I'm sure they could). They assist your hands with holding the bar, and have helped my workout significantly. These hooks have really thick cushions for your wrists, and are very easy to put on and take off. It's important to work your hands and wrists to maintain a base level of wrist strength, so I would recommend that you not use any assisting device when lifting with your lighter weights. But for the heavier weights, this product is ideal. There are times when my hand grip muscles are the "weakest link" in the lifting process, and my grip fades before I get a chance to fatigue my target muscles. If you have that problem, then this is the product that will make all the difference! This is an absolutely GREAT product for exercises in which you are pulling a bar toward your body. For example:Shoulder shrugs using a straight bar or with hand dumbellsStanding calf raises while holding either a straight bar or dumbellsLat pull-downsPreacher curls (or similar) using a straight bar (not so good for doing curls with dumbells)Upright seated rows using either a straight bar or close-grip "V" attachmentBent rows with individual hand barbells

great hooks
These are great -- keep in mind that they are the only hooks I have ever used, so I have no basis for comparison. They are necessary for lifting weights (using pulling motion) when the weights are too heavy for your hands/fingers to handle. For example, if you are using the Power Factor Training method, you'll need these. I give the hooks four stars because they don't stay perfectly tight to the wrist during a long set of heavy-weight lifting. As I said, I have no basis for comparison -- maybe it's the best one can expect, and maybe it's user error. Nevertheless, I would buy these hooks again.

Worth every penny
I've had my lifting hooks for about a month now and I could'nt be happier with them. They are worth the extra money. They are very well constructed and comfortable. The best part about these lifting hooks is the range of motion. The one large single hook design allows for it to move with you as you do say a low row or a lat pull. The twin hook design lifting hooks I've tried prior to these did not allow for such range of motion, and the two hooks made for an awkword feel due to trying to place your fingers around the two hooks. The one large hook design cuts that out completly. The paded wrist straps are a nice touch as well. I've tried the straps and other types of lifting hooks and by far these are the best. I highly recommend them. The only improvement that could be made to these is the same with all the hooks I've tried, and that would be to make the hooks or hook in this case about a quarter of an inch deeper to help cut out the worry and occasional slippage of the hook or hooks off of the bar, barbell, or handle that you are using. Pulling that hard on something that heavy and having it attract everyones attention when it crashes and you practically do a back flip is not cool, but I digress. These hooks are awesome and I will buy more once I wear these out
