1st one- An expensive 2-port Hub -- Replacement is most stable/reliable device I've ever owned.
Please read all the way to the end. 1st device had issues, replacement is most stable device I've ever installed on my system. I had high hopes for this device. Notice the past tense. Initial one disappointed; replacement however is the most stable reliable device ever attached to my laptop. Bill Gates needs to TAKE NOTICE! 1st Device: Whether attached devices are USB 3.0 or USB 2.0, it seems that only the 1st 2 ports are reliable(measured from power cord and USB 3.0 computer connection). All devices tested have their OWN external power! Ports 3-10 will not maintain connection for more than 24 hrs. After dropping ready, several hours of fiddling are required to re-establish connection (usually including a cold re-boot). A simple unplug/replug NEVER works. Have experienced these problems with 3,4 and 5 devices attached and have varied ports used with no change in behavior. I have another USB 3.0 Hub (4-port) which maintains (all) 4 devices for about a week, then drops ALL; but unlike this device a simple unplug/replug resets all ports 90+% of the time. The other vendor's hub is attached to a USB 3.0 2-port express card, so it's issues COULD be the result problems with the express card. THIS hub has ONLY been attached to a native USB 3.0 port on my laptop, a port which has been rock solid with other devices. This device is NOT ready for prime time. Contacted their Customer Support. Very willing to help and immediately offered a replacement. I misplaced initial shipping box so (with full permission by CS) waited for arrival of new unit to return old one. Following written three days after installing new hub: Replacement arrived from CS. I have to tell you this one (so far) could not be more stable. I have both USB 3.0 (self powered HDs) and USB 2.0 (Hub ONLY Powered, 2 1.2" HD Enclosures) attached for now 3 days and have had a total of ZERO drops! Had I received this one initially, my review would have been 5 stars. My guess is that there is a bad batch of power supplies. Referring back to prior issues. I can move ports at will. Reestablishing connection just WORKS. As I have HAD NO Drops, I cannot comment on re-establishing connection after that. This one is as it should be --- INVISIBLE, just works. Give it a shot if you need a lot of USB 3.0 connectivity. If you get a bad one CS will fix it. With the kind of support I received, similar concern will soon root out the bad ones. Update after almost 90 days of use: This device is solid as a rock! I have 24/7 had 9 or 10 devices attached. My system has crashed a dozen times; but this hub HAS NEVER LOST A SINGLE CONNECTION!! Not even with a(previously) flakey Bluetooth dongle! (This update is the source of reference to Bill Gates!). Other USB 3.0 hubs are no longer attached to my system. I rely on this one alone. Second Update (and final) after another several weeks. This replacement device has STILL NEVER dropped a single connection. The three other USB 3.0 hubs I have are now gathering dust in a corner. This is the only one I use. Could not recommend more highly. Summary: All electronics have a small infant mortality. I was unlucky to get one of those initially. However, the quality work done by this manufacturer is more than evident in the replacement; a replacement offered quickly, with little hassle and NOT ONE PENNY OF EXPENSE on my part. And for the record, I am a 30+ year veteran of Hi-Tech, so I have more than a casual basis for my opinions. If you need the connectivity - this is the device to buy! Could not recommend more highly.

Anker usb 3 hub
Finally a usb 3 hub with more then 4 ports! This is very useful considering there are a limited number of them on a laptop. I recently bought a sager gaming laptop and found that 4 onboard usb ports wasn't enough to power all my external devices. This hub takes care of that problem nicely. No more switching from one device to another, now I can plug them all in and power them on when I need them. This hub comes with a 4 amp adapter for devices like blue ray players, these devices require more power to operate then a dvd player or an external hard drive. This is a huge help to people using laptops to play their games or have a lot of external devices. I don't believe this will effect desktops so much since its much easier to buy an upgraded power supply, but it never hurts to have ten extra usb 3 ports. The primary advantage to these devices are. 1. Increased number of usable ports for external devices. 2. Less wear and tear on usb 3 ports built into your laptop or desktop. (These are not replaceable and when damaged become useless.) 3. Comes with an external adapter for supplying extra power for those devices that require it. (Blue ray players.) 4. Comes with a nice round number of 10 usable usb ports. 5. Housing made of aluminum for increased durability. My only complaint or rather a suggestion is this hub needs mounting holes on the back of the case. This is not an absolute necessity, but its nice when you can mount the usb hub to the wall above your computer or some other out of the way place. This helps with cable management issues and clears up a little desk space. This is an outstanding device that will make a lot of laptop users lives a lot easier and save them a little cash in the process. I will wrap this up by saying, this usb 3 hub is useful, simple in design and most importantly, it works! It still needs those mounting holes in the back though. Nice job Anker, will be waiting to see what you come out with next.

Anker USB Hub allows hope to float!
This is the best USB hub currently available. I say this having purchased cheaper hubs from Belkin, d-Link, Targus, and other manufacturers of powered hubs, only to watch each and every one of them die after a short term of service on my desktop. Either their power supplies burn out, or the hubs themselves fry. But this, the beautiful 9-port Anker USB hub (plus an extra high voltage charging jack for those power-hungry accessories) is just amazing. First, it's design makes total sense. The ports are arranged in a straight row, with plenty of room in between each one for USB cable ends to fit easily without butting up against their neighbors. I appreciate the "all-in-a-row" design as opposed to the scattered-all-around-the-circumference design of lesser hubs - how does that make sense? It makes for a cabling jungle! The Anker way is delightful! Neat, orderly, appealing. The Hub itself is a testament to good design. It is attractive in grey and white, with lovely blue lights to show that the port is active and engaged. The power supply that comes with the hub looks like it could easily power a notebook PC, and the cord is more than long enough to allow you to stash the brick out of the way and still have enough slack to neatly arrange the remaining cable. Now, on to performance. I currently have this hub connected to my Mac Mini, connected are three large, high-speed hard drives, an external Audioengine D1 digital-to-analog audio converter (the Mac Mini suffers from awful sound), an Alesis USB mixer and a Blue Snowball microphone. I also connect my iPhone for syncing, or when it only needs a charge, I use that high speed charging port. Everything hums along flawlessly! This Mac is my iTunes server for multiple Apple TVs throughout my home. It does all of this without even a hiccup! The Anker hub doesn't even get warm, and we all know good heat dissipation is essential for long-lasting electronic components. In closing, I give this beautiful, highly functional USB hub my highest recommendation. It is a desktop superstar, designed to give you and your peripherals many years of service. Oh, and it comes with a five year warranty!! No other hub offers that. Anker's hub is well worth the extra cost over cheaper alternatives that you will have to buy twice or more when they die prematurely! Treat yourself to the Cadillac of hubs!

Good device, with limitations.
---Update: I added a star because I was contacted by customer support which actively tried to address my concerns, literally one day after my review went live. Regardless how I feel about the product, top notch customer service is key to repeat business. In any case, I was informed that in the product information, there is a bullet warning that wireless peripherals might have a hard time with this device. I don't know if that was there when I originally purchased the hub, as I try to be careful about these things, but I may have legitimately overlooked it. If that's the case, well, I feel like a dummy. If anything, consider this company because they really seem to be on top of customer service issues, and that says a great deal. To be clear, this is for the 9 USB 3.0 hub, with an additional charging port. Amazon tends to group these reviews, and it can get confusing. I'll start by saying that my experience may not apply to you, since my usage of this device might be somewhat narrow. Still, if this helps someone make a wise purchasing choice, all the better. Pros - First off, the build quality and packaging are great. Everything is included in a nice box, and nothing feels cheaply made. Nothing was broken due to bad packing. Score for that. - The device seems to work pretty well, especially where USB 3.0 is concerned. It's backwards compatible, so it read all my other devices as well. Cool. - I like the lights on the device, showing you what's connected. There are plenty of reviewers who don't like bright and shiny, and that's fine too, but I like things with status and indicator lights. - Gets power from the wall, as opposed to from the motherboard. This is a make-or-break for me. Cons - The big one for me, which was a large part of my return, is the fact that any kind of wireless peripheral is essentially useless with this device. It says so in the instructions...wireless mice and keyboards may not work well with the hub. My technical knowledge is somewhat limited, but this came as a surprise. I tried using my wireless mouse and keyboard with the hub, and it sucked: missed clicks, delay or outright not registering mouse movement. I didn't see that anywhere in the description, and I wouldn't have bought it had I known; a good chunk of my devices are wireless. Minus one star for that. - The other big one (and to be fair, not really Anker's fault) is that you can't have a wireless camera plugged in, or, at the very least, you have to watch the order in which you plug in the device. If you plug in a camera first, then other devices, you'll likely get an error telling you that the bandwidth for the hub has been maximized, and lead to other issues. I had never seen this before, and some research led me to the likely conclusion that this was Windows' fault. If you plug a camera into the hub, it will take up all available bandwidth to maximize quality. If everything else has been plugged in first, you'll likely be fine, as the camera will eat up whatever's left. If the camera goes in first, it'll take what bandwidth's available and leave nothing for the rest. I didn't want to deal with that hassle. Overall, it's a cool device, but it does have limitations. I wish those limitations were better noted, as I like Anker products, have a few at home (no complaints), and have no plans to stop buying their stuff. It would have prevented the hassle I mentioned above.

Still a functional hub, with some issues 5 years later
Update: It's been 5 years since I purchased this hub, still use it but now it is connected to a full size desktop PC. Within the last year, it has had some issues with power draw on both my laptop and PC. Currently the Higher Amp port at the end of the hub just doesn't work anymore, it provides enough power to light up stuff like my headset, but doesn't work for charging at speed or being read by the USB manager. Other ports are throwing a "Power Surge on the USB port" error at random, but are still kinda working. So yeah, got my use out of it for when I needed it, and it's getting time to get a newer USB-C Powered one anyhow. Original Review: I bought this hub a year and a half ago and have got to say, I can't express how useful this has been, I use it connected to a laptop that is pretty much stationary on a desk, but if I need to move I just unplug the USB cable instead of having to unplug each device in the laptop ports. The 2.1A charging port works great, its a little slower than Anker's wall chargers, but that's to be expected. The power adapter gets a little warm, but never hot, and has a nice cord length. Paired with Anker USB cables, it can even be simply used as a charger because it doesn't require the data transfer cable to be connected to a computer. One suggestion however, if one is using this for a desktop that is not on the same level as the hub, get a longer data transfer cable, maybe a thinner one too, I like the thickness, but it likes to move the hub because the hub is so lightweight. The cable type is USB 3.0 Type-A to USB 3.0 Type-B if that's helpful. Overall, it has worked flawlessly for over a year and I personally haven't had an issue with any Anker products (I own quite a few) and can happily recommend the brand.

Very happy but cords needs to be longer
This is for a USB 3.0 hub but I'm actually using it in a USB 2.0 slot on the computer because there is another 3.0 hub using the only 3.0 port on the computer. (My computer has 1 USB 3.0 and 3 USB 2.0 ports, go figure.) That's fine as I have about twice as many items that are 2.0 than are 3.0 (Today anyway). The cord is perhaps a foot and a half (i didn't measure it) but it's too short for my needs so I purchased on Amazon "Cable Matters SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Type A to B Cable in Blue 6 Feet". Note that one end is a 3.0 type A and the other is a 3.0 type B. I had a cheap 10 port 2.0 hub before with a tiny power supply and upgraded to this figuring future items will be USB 3.0 (and I'll have more 3.0 ports). There are 9 ports as stated and one 'Power only' port for 2.1A device recharging. I would rather have 10 ports available but I know some folks will have a use for the heavy duty recharging port. My only recharging is my Logitech headphone and it's recharging from one of 9 regular USB port. So, right now I have the stock 3.0 cable going into a female 2.0 jumper that goes to a 2.0 port on my computer. This cable mess will be replaced by the above single cable. It has blue lights but at least they don't link. The hub is now full with 9 USB 2.0 items and all seems to be working better than before. I tried plugging it into my existing 3.0 hub but somethings didn't work properly (Headphones). The power supply is a big honk'n brick! 12 Volts and '5 Amps'! This was sold by AnkerDirect Via Amazon. I don't understand this statement: "For maximum performance devices connected to the 9 ports should not exceed 8 Amps (total)! Unless it's getting some current from the host computer I don't understand where the other 3 Amps are coming from unless the power supply is actually rated higher than stated. (I wouldn't count on it. Most of my 2.0 stuff is off most of the time and are connected just for convenience for when they're needed. Of course the rating was '12 Volts' (not the usual 5.0 volts) at 5 Amps and that would be 60 Watts total, perhaps that's where the extra current is coming from as a result of the voltage step down? It could just be magic. They did say 8 AMPS Max! Wow! Anyway,I arrived a day early, worked exactly as stated, not even hot but does have a short (for me anyway) connecting cable. The connecting cable from the hub to your computer HAS TO BE USB 3.0 and a 2.0 cable is not going to mate at the hub (mine didn't). Built in surge protection. Happy and would recommend this and hope the review helps with your decision as it is a bit pricy. If it goes West (dies) I'll update this review.

high-quality USB hub
I recently purchased the Anker USB 3.0 SuperSpeed 10-Port Hub and I must say, I’m impressed with its performance. The hub is externally powered and has 7 USB 3.0 data transfer ports and two charging ports, which makes it perfect for my needs. The hub is compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry around with me wherever I go. The build quality of the hub is excellent, with a sturdy and durable design that feels like it will last for a long time. The hub is also very easy to set up and use, with no drivers or software required. Overall, I’m very happy with my purchase of the Anker USB 3.0 SuperSpeed 10-Port Hub. It’s a great product that performs well and is very convenient to use. I would definitely recommend this hub to anyone looking for a high-quality USB hub that can handle multiple devices at once.

Dead at 5 Months - After slowly failing and losing functionality - replacement never sent
After I wrote my original review Anker contacted me and said they were going to send me a replacement. But they never did. To summarize : - Dead after 5 months of daily use. - Although at first it worked with external hard drives, it soon stopped working with first the large drive. The issue was it no longer found the hard drive regardless of hub port used. - Next it did not recognize the small external hard drive - After 5 months of gradually breaking down it went completely dead - Stayed dead - DO NOT USE FOR EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES!!! - While it worked it was OK for light use. For example, transfer filed from camera to hard drive then unplug camera. I bought it thinking it would help expand laptop USB 3.0 connections because the MacBook Pro had 1 USB 3.0 (and 1 USB 2.0). But this Anker could not handle the job. So it stopped recognizing the external drives after about a month. OK that's the way it goes, but the whole thing went dead after I unplugged external drives. I never found a USB 3.0 hub that can handle external drives. Apparently, it's better to daisy chain Firewire drives (if you can afford them). This is only good for light peripherals like a flash thumb drive or transferring data from a camera. Even then it's not built to last so plan to buy a new one. Complete waste of 50 bucks for me. I guess it looks nice. Maybe for a paperweight. Kind of big for a bracelet. Sometimes I think I should go back to school for electronics and learn to build my own peripherals like this because then maybe they might work for awhile. Anyways, a 10 port hub is kind of a useless thing to get because the more things you try to run at one time, the slower everything goes. If you need more than one USB 3.0 device connected at a time, you're better off with a desktop that has the hub ports built in or finding another solution. I should probably look at a NAS solution but it's more than 50 bucks. And the USB 3.0 hub cannot be near your USB 2.0 devices or hubs. That's a genuine problem. It didn't have to be but manufacturers did not bother with shielding - just let the consumer figure it - by reading the USB technical specifications - WTF do normal people do? Why make technology so difficult for consumers? Original Review October 22 2016 "For low energy peripherals only, don't kid yourself that it will be reliable with external hard drives. It won't." Worked great for 5 months then stopped finding my external drive, then stopped working at all and temperature became burning hot even when not plugged into USB port. I did not notice the warning, "For a stable connection, don't use this hub with high power-consumption devices, such as external hard drives." before purchase. The first drive it wouldn't read was a Seagate Expansion Drive 5TB with its own power supply. Eventually it stopped working with a small Seagate Desktop Plus slim drive which powered via USB. The big drive must be sucking power even with its own power supply because it works fine connected directly to laptop. Not sure if any Mac OS upgrades could have been involved. Big drive stopped working with Anker hub on September 30, but I have not upgraded fromEl Capitan to Sierra yet. Yet since the hub worked great for transferring camera data from various canon and apple cameras/devices before it stopped working altogether I have to give it a couple stars. Maybe it deserves 5 stars if you never connect an external hard drive and only use it for data transfer, headsets and light usage peripherals. But now it just heats up hot enough to hurt my hand and doesn't transfer anything. I haven't contacted Anker yet. It's not really what I need because the big drive is for Time Machine, the smaller drive for extra space, then a bunch of peripherals. Of course if you have a USB 2.0 mouse that will not work with this hub because of the problems with USB 3.0 and Bluetooth, so don't plug into this hub. You have to keep this USB 3.0 hub as far away from your USB 2.0 Bluetooth plug as physically possible. And consider EMI shielded cables. That took some research to sort out. What a bloody mess. I don't know how the average non-techie gets this stuff to work ever.
