While it is called "soft" EVA foam, it was a bit too soft for my purposes. Within 10-20 minutes of usage, unfortunately it was ripped in a few places, rendering it nonreturnable. Upon leaving my initial review of 3 stars to be fair to the seller and product (it's not a bad product, just didn't work for me and it didn't deserve 1-2 stars), they reached out and offered a full refund on it without an expectation of it being returned. For this I do believe they provide good customer service and I adjusted my overall rating to 4 stars as customer service is often as important as the quality of the product, and they treated me fairly. Durability will remain a 3 star with the reasoning that while I was not rough or providing undue stress on the surface, it did rip easier than I think it should have.

We placed these on our hardwood floor around our area rug to provide extra cushion for our daughter when she was crawling around, attempting to stand/ walk. These really could be mistaken (at a quick glance) for hardwoods.These have been an absolute must have for us b/c it has prevented our daughter from slamming her head on our hardwoods (as she did prior to the mats) and has enough cushioning that she shakes it off when she rolls over on her head. The mats have saved me countless hours of worrying about her hurting herself as she rolls around, attempts to stand, etc. While I think any foam mat would fit the bill, the look of these doesn't stand out to most people when visiting. A few people were surprised to know we had these mats around our area rug as it did blend with our hardwoods so well.To comment on what other reviewers noted, like most products, there will (and is) a smell upon opening. We aired ours out overnight. The paint on ours didn't seem to chip easily as others said, although we only used them for a few months until she was walking fine. I'm not sure what the wear and tear would be after 4 months or so. Also, as far as the concern about children chomping on them when there is paint on them... I think this will be an issue with most mats since they are all painted in some fashion. I was lucky my daughter didn't try to chomp on ours so it's hard for me to say. But again, I'm pretty sure it's going to affect most brands, not just this particular one.

I've read a lot of reviews that the material flakes off immediately, but others love these. I bought 2 packages. The first I put together with no problem and loved, so I bought more to fit in a play pen area. Looks great, matches my floor well! But while putting the 2nd package of squares together, a white dust came off all over my hands, feels kind of like fiberglass, but it's not, and it didn't hurt, but it's coarser than dust is the point. It also (you can see from photos) started shedding the color as I was putting it together (there are white marks). So strange. Those also smelled, like an off-gassing odor, while I didn't notice that with the first package. It says non-toxic, etc. but I would NOT want my toddler getting that stuff on his fingers and licking them, inhaling them, or anything else, since I don't know what it is. I wiped down the first package before my son played on them and they were fine. So it just seems these are completely different, and I'm not sure why or how that would be.I'm writing to the company now, so maybe I can update the review later with their comment.

I bought 4 of these to make a large play area over tile flooring. They assemble easily, look great, are easy to vacuum and mop, and most importantly they provide enough cushion for the occasional fall or tumble. I left the toys and such in the photo cause thats the natural state of my living room lol. Hopefully it gives a good idea of size. The Playmats have held up to some heavy abuse from three dogs and my son, with the expected scratch and scuff here or there.Update: If you're looking for an easy and effective solution to the mats sliding around on hard surfaces I'd recommend picking up some carpet tape. It provides an incredibly strong hold and is easy enough to remove when the time comes. A couple strips is all you need. When the time comes to remove it just spray some water on it and wait a couple minutes, peels right back up. My mat hasn't moved an inch since I stuck it down and I don't have to worry about a bunch of grime building up underneath it.If you found this review to be helpful please indicate so. I am currently using this as a play mat for my infant. When we received this item, we had to wash it and let it air dry on our screen porch for several days before using it in our home due to the smell. Now, the smell is gone and so is the pattern on multiple tiles. My baby has worn off the pattern where She typically sits down and we have only had it for several months. It has worked well for us as extra cushioning on the floor but I am just disappointed the the pattern wore off so easily. Also, the edging doesn't work well when putting all the tiles together, leaving multiple edge pieces overlapping.

This is a great product. Originally I bought this product to put in my living room for my at the time daughter to play on and not bonk her head. She was just learning to sit up and the hard wood floors meeting her head were my biggest fear. Once she was 6 months and could crawl everywhere I took these tiles and put them in front of my stove as a cooking mat!The product looks great on my floors. No, it does not look as though nothing is there you can definitely see the tiles, but its much more appealing then other child mats that are multicolored. They are easy to clean and make for a safer play time.I would recommend this item!

This serves it's purpose... However, the coloration is off. Most of the 'wood grain' is a Black/Grey imitation but some parts of a few squares have a hint of blue rectangles as if faded by the sun or perhaps some other unwanted exposure. It looks almost like small-/medium-sized boxes were placed on the affected pieces for long periods of time. Hopefully for everyone else's sake, only the ones I received have this problem.Other than that, everything is great. You can match up the wood grain pattern all the way around (like a puzzle) , including the slim border pieces.

Although, it looks great and the quality seems to be good, I am not happy at all! This was advertised as 16sq ft when assembled; however, it is only 9sq ft when assembled. I ordered 2 packs as I needed it to be 32 sq foot, but only got 18sq ft. I would have never paid the amount of money I did for such a small mat. Very disappointed!

They are excellent. I bought them as a floor for dance classes at home, and have enjoyed for that & yoga & naps & sitting on the floor as an alternative work location.Minor annoyance they don't mesh with my old matts, though they are 15 years old so no great shock that things have evolved.

I currently use this playmat for my 7 month old son. I really like how it fits in with our decor, but it also is thick enough to keep him safe when he is playing on the floor with me. I also like the fact that there was no odor emitting from this mat (unlike other mats which could smell strongly like rubber). I wish it was larger though, and I do worry about the pattern getting scratched because it is only on top of the mat. Overall, it is a great mat.

Looked awesome at first. Lasted less than a month before the print wore off in multiple spots. I only cleaned it by wiping with a damp cloth, so there should be no reason for the print to rub off so easily.
