Why did I wait so long to purchase
No more trying to stir almond butter or natural peanut butter with a knife or spoon handle. The small stirrer is a tad too big for the small jar but I made it work. I will order a larger one for the larger jar. Works great!

Simplicity
This product is so amazing. The design is simple and it works just like it says it will. It’s the simplicity that makes it so special

Maybe not for almond butter?
I have a few different versions of this product that I've purchased over the years for different sized jars of natural peanut butter. Each time, I've been thrilled with the results. They easily combine the oil back into the butter and make a nice cohesive product.Recently, we started eating far more natural almond butter than peanut butter. The brand that I purchase comes in an industrial mason jar. While the first jar I purchased easily recombined with a knife, I could see that the second was a separated mess before I even opened it. I looked for a Grandpa Witmer's Mixer that would work for that size jar. I immediately ordered it.When it arrived, I set to work on the almond butter. First off, the description clearly states that the lid is chrome plated steel. However, the one I received was plastic.I set up the mixer on the jar and started stirring. Unfortunately, the clump of butter just spun in circles in the jar and the oil stayed on the outside. Also, I felt the need to be somewhat gentle as, again, the lid was plastic. It just didn't feel up to the task of brisk stirring.I reset the mixing rod in the almond butter a few more times but it never changed the result. Just a clump of butter sitting in a bunch of oil.I'm disappointed this didn't work for our almond butter. But I'm keeping the mixer should I ever purchase a peanut butter that comes in a mason jar.

Overall, a really good product for mixing the mess of oil and sludge of natural peanut butter. Best method so far!
I contacted Witmer to be sure and purchase the correct size for my Trader Joe's Peanut butter jars. The fit can be frustrating at times, since there is a tendency for the lid to try to unscrew itself as one turns the crank. Due to the annoying rippled plastic bottom of the Trader Joe's plastic jar, (what brainiac decided little ripples/indentations that hold sticky food was a good design for a peanut butter jar?!) the bottom of the stirrer can scrape and be a bit problematic. But it probably wouldn't be an issue for a differently-designed jar. It's somewhat tedious to clean the lid. i personally don't like leaving the cranking lid on as a substitute for the jar lid, even though the gaskets should keep most of the air out. But that's personal preference. And the gasket system really does clean the whip so thoroughly that it barely needs washing! You could just wipe it on a paper towel and put it away, it is so clean!

Made a gloppy mess
It looked so intuitively smart but is difficult to use and all it does is make a disgusting gloppy mess. The mixer itself is more work to clean that anything else. You're better off just stirring with a spoon or other kitchen utensil.I gave it a few chances but t's sitting in my drawer and will soon get thrown away.

a better mousetrap!
This is perfectly simple and completely useful and convenient. I used it for the first time today and wonder why I have never found this before. The lid has a hole in the middle - be careful that you get the model for the size jar you want. The company makes several sizes and the only ones that are clearly marked on Amazon are the model 100 and the model 300. They are both for 16oz jars but the lid size varies. There is a gasket that slips over the crank and sit snugly inside the lid. That prevents the peanut butter & oil from bubbling over up through the hole in the lid for the crank. Then there is another plastic sheet that slips over the gasket to protect the lid itself from the worst of the oil & nut butter (I use mine for almond butter). Then just screw on the lid and crank. That is all there is to it. No muss, no fuss. Then when you are done, just lift the crank straight up. The gasket is so snug around it, the remaining nut butter on it is scraped off the crank as it is withdrawn and back into the jar so the crank comes out "clean" (still needs to be washed of course) - there is no mess that comes out with it. I am sure that after a number of uses the gasket will have to be replaced because the hole would have become larger with use and then the nut butter might come squishing out, but I don't know yet how long that will be.

It’s a bleepin’ miracle!
I bought the right size for my chosen brand of peanut butter. (Check! There are several versions with different lid sizes.)OMG! It made quick, efficient, painless and mess-free work of stirring up the peanut butter. I needed this decades (centuries!) ago.

Great Peanut Butter
Makes it easy to mix oil into peanut butter but only fits small jars.

Great product, sizing is tricky
fit the depth of my jar but would not screw on as it was too small. I solved the issue by transferring the peanut butter into a Mason jar and keeping the mixer as its cover. So far the only tool that does the job.

WARNING/CAVEAT TO CANADIANS WHO BUY ADAMS PEANUT BUTTER 500g - lid needs work
RATS!! Model #300 is not compatible with Adams Peanut Butter jar, 500g-sized jar - it's just too small to fit the jar. Any ideas for what to do with a gadget you can't use and can no longer return (didn't try until after 30-day limit had gone by)?UPDATE: As we can't return it anyway, I pulled it out of the package to try and it works if you clamp the mixer lid firmly in place with your non-stirring hand. Once you do that, it not just works - it works very well: moves through the thick peanut butter effortlessly, needs relatively few turns and "self-cleans" the stir stick when you withdraw it through the rubber gasket - knocks the pants off slogging through with a spoon or butter knife. My husband is looking into knocking a hole into a lid from a used jar to create a "custom" fit, but even if that doesn't work out, that's fine - jars of peanut butter do not get finished at our house on a daily basis anyway. I'd festoon my review with additional "stars of liking", but you shouldn't require awls or power tools to modify a product you paid a fair price for ;)UPDATE OF UPDATE! (Winter 2020): Later in 2015, went ahead and bought some grommets that matched the kind installed on the lid of the witmer product, knocked a hole in the lid that came with the peanut butter, installed the grommets and there we are! Fits perfectly. From later reviews posted since 2015, I see the company doesn't appear to have done anything about this incompatibility problem. Too bad...

Model 300 Does NOT fit 500 ml Adam's jar. Model 100 does and it works great.
I'm sure this will work just as well as the 5 star reviews suggest - if it fits the jar. The model 300 DOES NOT fit a Canadian Adam's Peanut Butter 500 ml jar. I didn't see the model 100 initially but I'm going to try It. This is a product people need. I don't buy many 'one trick ponies' but this would be a great one. Please note difference in model numbers - have just received model 100 and tested it immediately. Perfect. Truly 'a better mousetrap'.Initially I purchased the model 300 and returned it and purchased the model 100. As usual, Amazon's return policy and methodology was seamless and painless. Have just bought a second model 100 for my son.The review process isn't as seamless as this review appears for both models.

Works as stated - well stirred with no mess. Model 300 fit the 500 gram sized container used in Canada (In my case I used the 500 PC Organics smooth peanut butter jar and it fit perfectly). No issues.
