One of the best options for cats with CKD - Comes in two flavor varieties
While not inexpensive, Hills K/D is one of the better options for cats with Chronic Kidney Disease as it's low in protein and phosphorus. Our cat stopped eating the K/D dry but started eating it again about six months later. Hills has two flavor varieties of this food so if they don't like this flavor, they can try the other one. Hills also makes a sampler kit with samples of all of their wet and dry foods for you to try. It sells for around $25.

This product does work
Was desperate to help my 13 yr old car with her stage 2 kidney disease. She was miserable after UTI. My vet recommended this food. It took a while to transition her to new food, but she did and now she feels so much better and has her old personality back. Product works!

Good cat food
I bought this cat food for my cat Destro before she sadly passed to kidney disease, caught at stage 4 :( she was always picky about her cat food but loved this one. The texture wasn't rough on her teeth and was a good small size for her to eat. The value for the prescription food is great. I couldnt comment on how effective it was because she passed shortly after buying it. But I know it has to be good because she loved it

KD food
My 15 year old cat kidneys are failing. What he likes to eat is limited. He likes the dry food. It has to be approved by your vet so do not wait until your out to reorder.

Five Stars for the k/d Feline Renal Diet. (See side note re: cost vs. speed of shipment.)
We rescued a 13+ year old cat about 8 months ago. She has been eating this food for about 6 months, upon our vet's recommendation. ("Minnie's" urine was very diluted, according to her urinalysis.)Since starting her new diet, Minnie has gained weight (a good thing for her), her energy has increased, and her fur is softer and fuller. These improvements were evident after the first month or two.Minnie had a history of recurring UTIs with her previous owner, and she had a serious UTI when we first brought her to the vet. After the infection was successfully treated, Minnie started eating the k/d diet. She has not had a UTI since then (knock on wood). I don't know if the k/d formula is specifically intended to prevent UTIs, but I assume that having improved renal function is helpful here.Minnie is pretty finicky about what she'll eat. But she really likes the k/d food. She eats the chicken flavor with no complaints. She scarfs down the Ocean Fish flavor...I inadvertently spilled some, and she started eating it off the floor like a dog (really).Side note re: cost vs. shipment: the price is definitely much higher on Amazon. However, Amazon is faster. The other sites require a veterinarian's approval or prescription, which can take time to obtain. If you tend to procrastinate (like I do), you can order k/d on Amazon and receive it in 2 days. (Yay for prime membership. How did I ever live without it? haha.)Of course, it's much smarter to plan ahead and go through your vet's office or a reputable pet site (which I'm finally doing today). Also, you have more flavor options on the other sites...including Ocean Fish. (Yay for finding Minnie's favorite flav and saving $ on another site!)

So good, no KIDding!
I was leery but the kitties love it. The size of the morsels are tiny and easily chewed.
