Beginnings
Mystic Cove is special, as are the two women who live next to it. This novella is a perfect start to the series. It gives us background information for Margaret. I can't wait to see what awaits her!

Most enjoyable
This "prequel" to the Mystic Cove series was lovely and intriguing enough for me to peruse the rest of the books. My only "complaint" is that this book is also the first part of the final (so far) book in the series. While this story is certainly the beginning of the series and should probably be read first, I think it is confusing to begin it here and re-introduce it in the 5th book. Perhaps two separate novellas would have been better. I am undecided as this one doesn't exactly end at the ending, but rather leaves one hanging wondering what's next? This is part one of the story of Margaret (Maggie) and Sean. Part two of their story picks up over 20 years later in the novel by the same name - Wild Irish Roots, Margaret and Sean, book 5 in the Mystic Cove series. This novella isn't necessary to understand book two and each novel is a stand alone story, however reading them sequentially provides the reader with a much richer and more complete story overall as each builds upon the story contained in the previous book. These are charming love stories that leave one feeling good as well as adventurous tales of mystical powers, self acceptance, family and personal growth. I would recommend these books.

Be VERY Warned!!!
This is the first review I have ever written and it was brought about by immense disappointment!!!!!POSSIBLE SPOILERSI read ROMANCE books for the feel good HEA .... so how is it that an Irish Cove romance novel sucked the big one and left the couple apart and broken? Surely their story would pick up in the next book right? NOOOOO!!!! The second book starts some 30 years later with the next generation. I have no faith in this author as she leaves her main couples in shambles with no happily ever after. I will not read the next book in this series because I have no desire to spend hours reading a book and investing in the characters to be completely disappointed and let down in the end!!!!!! The only good thing I can say about this book is the editing and grammar was good, but I'd definitely rather read a great book with some editing issues than a perfectly edited book that is terrible :(Also .....the couples continually talk about falling hard for each other and knowing they are the ONES, but their actions do not. Even before the sucky ending I had a hard time believing they loved each other. What guy who finds his soulmate LEAVES her to walk home in the dark from a faraway deserted cove after he takes her virginity.....I don't care what the reason is. He should have cared enough about her safety to at least see her home before he abandons her!!!!! Luckily her cottage wasn't too faraway!!The main heroine is also very disrespectful to her mother, selfish and hard to like. All the issues I had with this book could have been resolved if the author had just grown her characters more and made them learn from their lives and relationships and brought about a happily ever after. I expected Maggie to finally embrace her gift and confide in Sean. AND for Sean to come to terms with Maggie's ability and love her for who she is......after all that's what true love does!!!! I guess the brightly lit cove made a mistake!!!!!I will not be trying another book in this series. I understand this was a short prequel novella, but it still sucked. My suggestion would be to start with the next book if u decide to try the series out for yourselves. All you need to know from the prequel is that Keelin's mom is the selfish (rhymes with witch) girl who abandoned her mother and true love for over thirty years w/o visiting once and never tells Sean he is going to be a father before leaving. AND he doesn't even fight for her or go after her!!!!!!!! I'm glad I got it for free is all I can say!

Roots are the beginning of all beautiful growing things
The first thing you need to know is that I read "Wild Irish Heart", the first official novel in this series, before I read this novella, "Wild Irish Roots". I enjoyed "Wild Irish Heart" very much and gave it a 4 or 5 star review, plus also purchased book 2 of the series (although I have not read it as yet). Anyway, I am telling you this to point out that I already had a pretty good background of what's going on around Mystic Cove and who the main characters are before I read this novella, so I'm looking at it from maybe a little different viewpoint from some other readers.I loved the story of Margaret and Sean in "Wild Irish Roots". It put alot more light on what happens with the characters in the next book, and an interesting look at Margaret's mother, Fiona, from a different angle. It made some of the decisions that Margaret made as a young woman fall into place a little better. Yes, I agree with some other reviewers, that Margaret seemed a bit selfish and childish. My suggestion would be that if you read this book, and are a little turned off because of Margaret's immaturity, don't judge the whole series by that point alone. Give it another chance to prove itself, and learn more of what Mystic Cove is about in "Wild Irish Heart". It is a fascinating place, full of folklore and beauty. I am looking forward to continuing this series.

Very good+intriguing but not really a standalone.
Kindle Editionย (edit)Review4 or 5 stars. Before reading this I'd read the first in the series (when that was free) and another in the series. This is a precursor as it were to book one. It's not really a full story, a standalone book so if you're looking for that you may be disappointed. I generally don't like those sorts of books. However, I enjoyed this, as I did the others I have read in the series.ย Magical realism. Margaret, and all the females in her family line have some extrasensory gift. Something Margaret finds difficult to come to terms with. It has much in common with the other books - set in Ireland, romance and a sizzling sex scene, and the mysterious glowing of the cove with it's mysterious signals.ย It's better than other #.5's I've read and other free ebooks so I would recommend. It's quite an easy yet good and intriguing read. It also gives you the first two chapters of book #1 for free. If you don't like it - you won't have spent much time to get through it. But if you read the synopsis and liked the sound of it then I think you'd probably like it.

Possibly suitable for late teenage?
Like stories about witches and understand the link to Ireland, but this is written like it may possibly be aimed at a suitably aged teenager. Agree with the previous reviewer about Americanisms, but I would also add that I would have found the story more enjoyable if it had greater depth, detail, and complexity. This Alonso goes for the main character, who I found myself being irritated by for her immaturity and nativity (I actually preferred her younger self). It also appeared as though the storyline of the full story may only represent what you'll get in 1/3 of a traditional book if that so it didn't seem like a natural finish, but I wouldn't refer to it as a cliff hanger either. These are only my opinions though, as I can clearly see that many people have liked the story so it possibly just individual tastes. I personally haven't written a book so I imagine its tough, but I know what I like as a reader, so that's all I can go off for now.
