Will not work on MacOS 10.9 or newer. Works great on 10.8.
I bought 2 of these back in 2012 and they worked great on my MacBook Pro with Retina running Mountain Lion. While the hardware itself may be fine, there is no software for newer versions of MacOS. If you have Mavericks or Yosemite (10.9 or 10.10) this WILL NOT WORK for you. If you have anything at Mountain Lion (10.8) or older then I would give it 4 1/2 stars. The only issue I ever had was that it was a little loose in the port and occasional fell out.

A real bargain
I ordered this fingerprint scanner with fairly low expectations, considering its bargain basement price. As it turns out, the Mac software (a free download from the company's web site) is superb and integrates seamlessly into the operating system. No need to type your password to login anymore, a simple scan of your finger will identify and authenticate you (you can also revert to classic authentication with a simple click, or by unplugging the scanner). The scanner also takes care of administration password requests (when you install software, for instance) and even web site passwords! I no longer need to type my infuriatingly long Amazon password to place an order, I just scan my thumb. The software is configured via the TruSuite control panel, which lets you scan all your fingers and associate an action to each: for instance, you can have a scan of your left hand index finger trigger the launch of iPhoto and the left pinky shut down the computer. You can individually activate or deactivate the different features (web logon, quick launch, fast user switching, fingerprint log on and authentication dialog).A quality product, surprisingly useful and bundled with quality software for OSX: highly recommended.

Great product, ordered two - one stopped working
I was extremely excited for the Eikon mini for Mac. When i got it, it was thrilled that it worked so great. So great that i ordered a second one. It's fast at reading your fingerprint, it's small, and it works flawlessly with OS X and Windows - authentication dialogue and logon menu. Even though this is the mac version, the only difference is the packaging - where the software can be downloaded from Authentec's website. The pc software works great as well. All was great until the first one i ordered suddenly stopped working. The fingerprint reader seemed to think that a finger was swiping it in a loop. It would no longer work. Really disappointed, but the second one still functions great.Pros:Fast (+1 star)Small - portable (+1 star)Cost effective (+1 star)Works with OS X, Linux and Windows system wide (+2 star)Cons:Stopped working after a week (-2)Not durable. so order a few backups.

Limited Mac Utility
Latest software for Mountain Lion. Easy to install and works well but only on the Mac system passwords - logging on and opening locked system preferences. Does not work on Firefox 19.0, in spite of the plug-in, or Safari. Handy time saver but was expecting it to function as described. It didn't. Especially wanted it for websites. Also does not work with 1Password. I read that Apple purchased this company so I'm hoping that they upgrade the software to have it do everything it claims. Recommend with the web logon caveat.

Runs well on MacBook Air (2012) with Mountain Lion
Just got this product today. I had read earlier this week that there's a new version of the software and driver for Mountain Lion, so I made sure that I downloaded and installed it (you can find it here: [...]Initial enrollment of the fingerprints was pretty straight forward and it was able to read my fingerprints immediately. I am only using the Mac authentication functionalities of the reader, so I have not yet tried the app launch and web login features. But I do use Spotlight to launch apps and other password manager to keep my web logins, so I'll just use this reader to authenticate into my Mac.While authenticating, one thing I found is that you can't swipe your finger quickly right after it prompts for it, as it actually takes a second or two to initialize the reader. Once the reader has initialized, so far it has been pretty accurate.Definitely something you should look into if you want to have biometric authentication on your Mac laptop.I'll provide more updates to this review after I've used this for an extended period of time.

Authentec software locks ut access to your acct when upgrading to Mavericks
The icon Mini and its biometric security software by Authentec worked flawlessly in Mountain Lion. But, if the software is installed at the time of upgrading to Mavericks, you'll be locked out of your Mac account with no way in. Swipe your finger or type the password and the screen flashes once, leaving you stuck in the login screen. There is no known fix for this and Authentec is no longer in business. If this has already happened to you, Time Machine is your way back to Mountain Lion. Uninstall the Authentec software with the uninstaller program that came with the .dmg files and then upgrade to Mavericks. The Eikon Mini will no longer work until new software is provided for Mavericks. For further info about this issue, search the Apple support database for the topics.

1 star off because Eikon does not support it anymore and it won't work with latest version of Firefox
Setup is fine.Cannot get the darn thing to work with Firefox 15. Apparently thats because Eikon will not update software.

Eikon Mini Fingerprint Reader for MAC
This reader works fine on the MAC OS 8 if the latest download is used. Install was easy and worked from the beginning. The device can even be used on different MACs without any issue.
