Spirit of America

I love patriotic music. My eyes tear up when I'm at events and it is performed. Imagine my joy at finding this recording. From the opening of America the Beautiful to the closing of Call of the Champions, this is a superb collection. I love the inclusion of hymns and folk songs.There are so many good songs that it is hard to choose my favorites. The arrangement of Bound for the Promised Land has to be the best I've heard. No one does Battle Hymn of the Republic better than the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. God of Our Fathers, Whose Almighty Hand is beautifully sung. Who could resist George M. Cohan with Cohan's Big Three (Yankee Doodle Dandy, Give My Regards to Broadway, and You're a Grand Old Flag)? Not I!New to me were Distant Land; They, the Builders of the Nation; Hymn for America (written for the CD), and The Pledge of Allegiance (also written for the CD).If you enjoy patriotic music, this is a must have!

During the unsettling months of 2020, I found this recording especially full of hope and validation that my love of the United States of America for over 7 decades is real, true, and worth passionately believing in. I've listened to it every morning instead of a shrill alarm. Magnificent! I need to point out, however, that I originally purchased this CD so that I could repeatedly listen to Alex Boye singing "Goin Home." I was very disappointed that the link to make a purchase was below the YouTube concert, but excluded Alex Boye's performance. It still captures the Spirit of America.

Although this CD contains nothing new in the way of title songs, itstands out as one that you could give as a gift to just about anyone,especially if they are over thirty. It is one of only a very small number of CD's I would recommend listening to at the highest possible decibel level the listener's ears can tolerate, as it's emotional effect increases exponentially with increasing volume, a rare case. It features such old, well-known standards as "God Bless America," James M. Cohan's "It's a Grand Old Flag" and "Give My Regards to Broadway," "This Land is Your Land," and "Shenandoah,"--pieces you just can't go wrong with. But, what differentiates it from it's many peers is the performance of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the accompanying orchestra; it sounds like THOUSANDS of voices are singing out in unison. The effect is that it sends one's patriotic soul soaring into the clouds in a rush of pride in this truly unique land of ours. In short, it's more than worth the money;I bought several of them to put away as future holiday gifts.

I had trouble playing it all the way to the end on my cheap CD player.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir,sometimes referred to as America's choir, and the Orchestra at Temple Square brings us America's music. This all-volunteer group has included selections which reflect the American spirit and the growth of our unique nation and chronicle the American experience. The choir has been bringing the world sacred and secular music for over 100 years. Every selection represents the greatness of the greatest country, from God Bless America to Yankee Doodle Dandy. It is one of the best compilations of patriotic music I have found. I highly recommend it, not only for a Fourth of July get-together but for anytime you need a good shot in the arm.

I love patriotic music, but apparently I don't like it done in an operatic chorus style. Your milage may vary.

If you like patriotic music and you the Mormon Tabranacle choir you can’t go wrong with this one.

Unfortunately the case was packed without enough padding. It arrived badly cracked and with the case’s hinge broken!!
