Darco Body Armor Cast Shoe, Small

Great shoe for protecting bandaged feet without extra pressure, but may not be easy to adjust due to soft plastic.
I bought two of these (Small) to wear over bandages for lymphedema - they are roomy enough for my foot + padding + bandages, but adjustable enough that they stay on when I just have a sock. (I normally wear a women's size 7 or 7.5.). Because the shoe is so open, it hasn't caused any pressure issues on my feet, which has been a problem with other shoes. There is a tread pattern on the bottom so the shoe does get some traction, (I have not put these through any strenuous activity, though.) I've been wearing these daily for about a month, and found that they were a great solution for me.When sizing, it's important to remember that these are designed to go over a cast or bandages, so they are very roomy by design - and there is no "left" or "right", so they are pretty much the same width along the foot, so they can accommodate either foot shape. There are other sites that list measurements, and other commenters have also noted these - the Small fits up to a 10" long foot (the shoe itself is a bit longer), 4" wide. There is an X-Small size available, but if the measurements from other sellers online are correct, the 9" length and 3.5" width would be a bit too small for me - especially if I had anything bulky on my feet. (It looks to me like each size is 1" larger, 0.5" wider than the one smaller - but I can't confirm as I only own the Small size.) For those concerned with sizing, it appears that the manufacturer (Darco) is making a newer model that includes actual length measurements - but that shoe is a different design than this one, so there's no way to know if those sizes will apply to this.I kept my rating to four stars, though, because the "adjustable" stops that hold the elastic in place (these are light grey on the model of the shoe that I purchased) are made of very soft plastic... it is very easy to strip out the plus-shaped holes on the inner part of these stops (this is the part that unscrews to loosen the grip on the elastic - you can use a large Phillips head screwdriver to loosen and tighten, as long as the holes aren't stripped). On the second pair I bought, all six of these had been overtightened and the holes stripped completely - I needed two sets of pliers and some elbow grease to convince these to loosen their grip and let me adjust the length of the elastics.

Darco - Pull out a ruler!
Sizing is challenging because it requires a Phillips screwdriver to turn the plastic bolts that are inside the gray buttons holding the elastic laces...and the rubber of the shoe is stiff, making it hard to reach inside with a tool and not be pushed back outside by a flap! ;-)But the main point of my review is to comment on size. The manufacturer needs to list these by length, not by shoe size, because they are meant to be worn over a cast or post-op shoe. Let a person measure their cast foot, then order by inches (width is little to no concern--huge width). I wear a 9.5 wide shoe (men's or women's, depending upon athletic or dress). The small cast shoe fit my sock-clad foot with 1/4 inch or so to spare. But no prayer of putting my WL post-op shoe inside it, even with all the laces removed. It just was not too long. Mind you, my toes hang over the front edge of the post op shoe. I ordered the M cast shoe and am returning the small, though I had to pay more than $5 return shipping and buy the M at a higher price to get it by Prime in two days. But I am flying in three days and want my broken toe protected during travel.

Check sizing
So this was for my 9 year old foot based on the website the measurements should of fit however way to big. At orthopaedic surgeon office they had an xs and it was just as large. Orginally they did not refund me until I called amazon.

More Comfortable than Anticipated
A little difficult for me to put on or slip into, but very comfortable for a cast shoe with a very firm sole.

Perfect fit for 10 year old in cast!
This cast boot is perfect for my 10 year old son. The womans small fits perfect over his cast. He wears a 5 1/2 or 6 in youth/ young mans shoe to give you an idea in sizing. If his foot were any bigger, I’d go to a medium. He broke his foot for the second time this spring and I asked the women who did his cast if she had a suggestion as the shoe the first time got worn out fast disgusting from being outside. She suggested looking up this brand and I had it overnighted. This is perfect. Fits right over cast and feels much more like a shoe. Covers his toes without being tight. You can also just rinse these off since he has to wear it outdoors but also wears it in the house. My son said the biggest issue with the shoe given at the dr was feeling like it was slippery on the tile floor at school. He said this feels like he’s wearing a rubber, croc, type shoe and it grips much better. Just a perfect alternative for anyone in a cast that isn’t a fan of the ones given at the orthopedic.

Fits fine on a Cast
Got this for my son, he's a 6-7 youth. Women's 5.5-8 fits perfect over his cast. You do have to play with the strings to tighten the heel up, not like your shoes, it takes a bit of effort to synch it down. I haven't adjusted the forefoot ones yet but read a review where someone did, looks like you can take a Phillips screwdriver and pull some of the slack out of the forefoot. The material is not a rubber tire, it's like sponge light weight rubber material. It should hold up for the time needed just fine and for the price it's probably more than adequate. I'm sure this is way better than the canvass shoes you see people walking in. You can't go wrong with Amazon Prime, if it doesn't fit, effortless return policy. Just order the next size. I ordered with other items so I got 1 day shipping for "FREE". Awesome!I have read where there were fitting issues, I'm not sure if that person had a cast on their foot or not. This thing fits just fine over a cast and appears to be true to size to fit over a cast using your shoe size as a reference.
