National Geographic Traveler: Vietnam, 3rd Edition Review: I LOVE this book - I LOVE this book. I think in this new day and age of travel, the guidebooks have mostly gone the way of the garbage can in exchange for the internet. What this Book is NOT: -going to tell you which hostels are the best -specific restaurants for you to eat at -tell you exactly how to have your vacation or travels planned What this book IS: -going to tell you which regions have what types of food and what you should try -tell you the culture, background, history of every different part of Vietnam -tell you what to look out for and the significance of everyday things If you are looking for a travel guidebook about what hotels are best and what tours to take, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for a rich history of the culture and people of Vietnam and how that translates into thier style of living, food, entertainment and everyday lives, this is what you want to read. I like to discover restaurants on my own, and now what type of food I must try. I want what activities and lifestyles are sacred to the people around me so I can appreciate them best. This is the book for me. Review: Most Comprehensive Vietnam Travel Book - This NG book on Vietnam is well-written and organized, has interesting descriptions of specific sites as well as each region/highlights, and of course great pictures. Favorite part, though, is the depth of the cultural/historical coverage which was far lacking in another Vietnam travel guide I purchased. Great job NG!

Great book but quality issues
The content of the book is great for a historical perspective and travel suggestions. However, the type is very light and small and some of the pages don’t match up. Poor copy quality for Nat Geo, assuming they printed this.

If you like pictures, this is it!
I love this book as it provides many pictures as well as brief historical facts. Some places you just have to see to mesmerize in the beauty, but pictures gives you an early impression. Overall, this book and the lonely planet book makes great companionship.

I am a vietnam veteran and enjoyed reading about the the author's review of the areas around Saigon where I was fighting. I gave the book to a family member who is taking a cruise hat will make several stops at vietnam ports. She was delighted to receive the book.

the informative content great, but as far as current prices on accommodations ...
The photographs are gorgeous, the informative content great, but as far as current prices on accommodations and transportation info, this is not that book. Since I was taking an all-inclusive Mekong River tour, it was a wonderful resource book. I felt I was fully informed in advance of what to expect along the way, and where to visit in the big cities. It didn't cover much of the smaller towns we visited. The climate charts here, and anywhere, don't do the country justice, it is hot and humid anywhere, anytime. Nowhere in the book does it say that. I'm glad I went when there were leaves on the trees and could find plenty of shade. I've passed this book along to others for help in planning their trips. I also bought NatGeo Cambodia for this trip.

THE guide for traveling in Vietnam
I am traveling in Vietnam at this very moment and refer to the guidance offered in this book many times throughout the day. It is an easy source of information for what you may be seeing at the moment and it is wise in the suggestions it provides for keeping yourself safe and happy while traveling in this fascinating land. The only guide book for Vietnam you will need for your journey.

Different from other guides. More amazing facts and lovely photos. Saw this guidebook on our Halong Bay cruise so decided to buy it when I returned. Great background read.

Very vivid experience telling and detailed travel guides and tips. The author has merged a lot of his own living experience into it. In terms of practical information about what to eat, where to visit and geographic information such as maps, this book is dwarfed by Routard though.

Great guide with plenty of insiders' tips for a more authentic - rather than touristy -travel experience
