similar to the filter came with the machine.. does the same thing at a lower cost compares to OEM.
We use it in the Breville Barista Pro. We only use the water from an under-sink RO filtration system. We also have a water softener system. No noticeable difference in terms of the taste of the coffee between these and the OEM filter that came with the machine. Much more cost-effective than the OEM.

Filter for Breville
Doesn't look like charcoal. It is soft beads. Not sure if it is safe for use. It comes in a plastic packing with barcode. No safety instructions, etc.
