Works as described, VERY slow shipping
Product works as described nicely. My only complaint was this took almost 2 weeks to receive, which is crazy. As the other reviews say, just make sure you get the right adapter for what you need and this can save you from having to upgrade a receiver or TV. I'm not ready to do a full upgrade on everything, so this adapter was perfect when I purchased Sony BDP-S580 Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) and did not have an optical connection on this new player. My receiver did not have an open slot other than the existing optical connection that was used on the old DVD player so this adapter worked perfectly to connect the new WiFi DVD player over an optical connection. This particular adapter will take your component connection FROM your device and send an optical signal OUT to your receiver/TV.

volume level inconsistent but better then resetting cable box, or HDmi setting
We have the Bose Cinaemate2 system, and our Dynex has only RCA, or Digital coaxial, while the Bose runs optical, or RCA jacks. The RCA connection would drop sound on some stations, meaning you have to reset either the HDMi setting, or shutting down the cable box, then turning back on...at least with this converter..we don't lose sound now..but we still do have a drop off in volume on some stations..so when you have been on one of those stations..watching a show..finding out the volume was louder then one thought, but only after you change channels, can be quiet alarming/wake's your butt up fast.

Solve your SPDIF RCA vs. SPDIF Optical issue
If you've already purchased a device with the older SPDIF (Sony Philips Digital Interface) RCA(orange) coaxial output, like our cute little kitchen HD flat screen and discover that the sound sucks, then you buy a sound-bar that has the newer SPDIF Optical input, you need one of these adapters. It saved the day after I learned the hard way that SPDIF comes two ways. In service 8 months w/o a problem.

Affordable Niche Solution
Long story short, this worked specifically as intended. I needed to bridge my TV to my new soundbar and the two didn't share any connection type so this was my best digital solution. Do note that this is NOT BI-DIRECTIONAL, probably the only critical aspect of this product worth noting. The construction could inspire a little more confidence but for the price they're asking I didn't expect much more. They also make the reverse configuration of this if you happen to be looking for that set up. So yeah, take note of the order of things and I would recommend this as a solution to that particular configuration problem.

It worked like a charm
It worked like a charm! I originally purchased the wrong converter and still couldn't get my soundbar to work with my out dated Sanyo tv that only had an coaxial cable hook up. My soundbar came with an optical digital cable (Toslink) hookup. Then I purchased this coaxial converter and as soon as i hooked it up . . . Bam!! I got sound :)

spot on.
works great. got it fast. price was right. buyers make sure you get the right one and look at the input and output because most of these are the opposite way.

2.1 Stereo Audio Only
Please be aware that this device is a 2.1 Stereo sound only. I purchased this product in hopes of full conversion of Dolby Digital sound but I have discovered that it simply cannot do it. This defeats the purpose of digital inputs to begin with. Instead use simple RCA cables if you can. Otherwise look for a converter that will convert at least up to Dolby Digital 5.1

Works
This has been working well for us for at least a month now. Funny that our TV does not work with a coaxial cable by itself.
