Lots of good info!
As usual for reading a book about sailing, I took lots of notes, listing them by page number in the front cover of the book. Lots of good information. He's a nice guy, too--and his wife! I always learn something reading books about sailors: this time he learned how to coast his boat down the waves of Cape Horn!

Outstanding
Awesome book by a guy that has definitely "been there and done that".

Get out and go sailing.
Those who know Moitessier's name need no further recommendation. Those that do not will not forget his inspiration after reading his work. This book in particular illustrates this mariner's formative transcendentalist characteristics, and charts a path for his future exploits. It also details the design and construction of his boat "Joshua", which survives today in France.Highly recommended book.

Best of the best
Best of the best when it comes to true sailing adventure. He has done it all... repeatedly, and lived to tell about it.

Moitessier at his finest. Thoughtful, real and educational. A perfect blend of theory and practice. Do it on the cheap, but DO IT
Bernard lets you in on his triumphs, and his failures. He's a real person who can laugh at himself and give real advise from experience. He knows how to get it done.

A great read and fantastic adventure before all the modern gizmos ...
Wow, they broke the mold when they made Moitessier. A great read and fantastic adventure before all the modern gizmos of GPS. The spirit of Moitessier and Knox-Johnston thankfully still lives on. Love the account of the passage home via the Horn, it happens a lot these days on big modern yachts, but back in Moitessier's day it was almost an unknown quantity with only a few yachts having attempted and survived the passage.

Philosophy at Sea
A great story thoughtfully told. Moitessier has the ability to combine the practical with the philosophical. There are early signs in this account of the Naturalist philosophy which led him to drop out of the Sunday Times race and just keep on sailing.
