The Living Room

Not a favorite by this author.
I have read most of this author's works and love the fact that he is a writer who incorporates his faith with his background knowledge as attorney. This book was a stretch for me. The emphasis on the main character, Amy, and her dream trips to the "living room" felt uncomfortable to me. I know that God can speak to us in many ways, including dreams, but this just seemed contrived and way out there. The parents seemed pretty clueless about their daughter's too close relationship with her teacher. That should have been obvious - but was used to fill in much of the story line. I also had issue with some of the other unrealistic things in this book but will not go into detail. I consider this author to be an excellent and knowledgeable writer - but the believability factor of this book was thin. In short, I have no problem recommending any of the books I have read by Mr. Whitlow. This one is the exception.

Robert Whitlow's best
I've been reading Robert Whitlow's books in chronologicaal order and have enjoyed them all immensely, but I midday this has been his best this far. His character development was exceptional and the multiple plotlines wouldn't allow me to put the -book down. I can't wait to read his next book.

Very good, not great.
I have always enjoyed Robert Whitlow's books. I tell people he is the Christian John Grisham. While this book was really good and kept my interest all the way through, I gave it four stars instead of five because it was very good, but not great. I could not quite relate to the main character. But again, I will read anything Robert Whitlow writes and look forward to more books from him.

It is easy to relate to the family issues that she faces ...
This was a very well written story. It follows a christian author who is gifted in an unusual way that can bring a lot of controversy into her life. As she struggles between lines of how to interpret dreams that she gets she is faced with losing her job and compromising her faith. It is easy to relate to the family issues that she faces and how she deals with it. At times I found myself annoyed with the main character but it was also understandable. I did enjoy it and I enjoyed that it left me guessing. Some things were predictable but there were some twists I didn't see coming. Overall, I would say it was quite enjoyable.

Only started, but well done
I was waiting for Amazon to send me the review window for this book. Even though I'm only partway through the book, I am appreciating the writing style and enjoying the book. The audience for this book is definitely women. (Not to be rude or prejudicial, but...) I'm trying to figure out how a man did such a good job of figuring out how a woman thinks in her head. I'm impressed.Another factor about the book I like is that it portrays the family from a practical viewpoint. The economic issues are a major factor in the beginning of the book. Continuing with the realistic family theme, it portrays the communication that is important between a husband and wife. The parent-teen interactions are also realistic. The spiritual content of the book has not been over-powering, although it is a vital theme in the story. It is being handled delicately.I'm anxious to finish these reviews and get back to reading! Good job, Mr. Whitlow. (He is one author I track regularly for new books.)

The Living Room was a very good read. The characters were very real and easy ...
The Living Room was a very good read. The characters were very real and easy to identify with. Would love to have had a little more romance between the married couple, Amy & Jeff; they seemed more like great friends and roommates instead of being married. You had a hint that something wasn't quite right with Megan at school, but just couldn't put your finger on it until the end. Would love to have had another chapter to tie up a few lose ends...what happened to some of the characters. Would highly recommend this book.

Looking for a Christian writers view.
I enjoyed the view point of this book, an author. It had some of the struggles we face in our daily lives, does God speak to you, how do we misunderstand God or dreams, trying to share our faith. One of the things I liked about this was everything was not perfect because the main family were Christians, they had family issues, financial burdens, not immediately successful at everything and the children were in trouble and at risk. I feel that some books can become so predictable that they are no longer enjoyable to read. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is a bit slower moving than some.

More than just another novel.
Living Room is 4 stars for the unusual way Whitlow includes, but breaks away, from the genre and setting we would expect. It's really more about an author struggling with family and career who happens to work in a law firm. Her spiritual gifts find meaning in this setting. I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys an extra dose of deep relationships and emotional reflection in their reading.

Disappointment in one of my favorite authors
I chose this book because so far I have really enjoyed this author`s writings however this book lacked the suspense and excitement I was used to enjoying. Could not get very far into this story. I am disappointed.

Not Suspense
I thought this book was listed as 'Mystery/Suspense', but it was more 'Fictional Drama'. I found it rather slow moving and not to my taste.
