As it is an ointment it holds the actives in contact with the affected area for longer than other topical preparations. This ointment soothes and relieves. Paw and Manuka honey have complimentary therapeutic values, antiviral, an antiseptic as well as being a natural anti-inflammatory.

I have been using Lucas Pawpaw ointment for a year on my chapped lips with spectacular results. Prior to my using the Lucas ointment, I had cracked, bleeding lips and recurring fever blisters. Both stopped as soon as I started using the ointment although I had to use the ointment every night to not wake up with chapped lips in the morning. When the ointment ran out, I ordered this one.I've been using this for a month now it works at least as well as the previous ointment and has the potential to work better. I'm familiar with the research supporting the healing potential of Manuka Honey but have no idea if it's concentration is high enough in this ointment to have an effect. I suppose I could buy the honey and put it on my lips but I'd end up licking it all off.I have tried other highly rated and popular lip products (aquaphor, Burt's Bees, etc.) but none have worked as well as the pawpaw ointment. The pawpaw ointment has the consistency of vaseline so you can apply it heavily and it stays put for much longer (including overnight) than the alternatives. This version has no sweet taste from the honey. If you have an aversion to using petroleum jelly (what this mainly is), you can find alternative products that use other oils as their base and have different percentages of pawpaw in them (see pawpawshop dot com dot uk). But petroleum jelly creates a barrier that traps moisture in, which is why it works so well overnight. This would be a good candidate for subscribe and save as I'll go through this tube in about three months. I'm ordered tubes for my sister and daughter. Two Year Addendum: My lips are healthier than they've been in decades. I can miss a single night without getting dry lips but not two. Haven't had any cold sores or cracked, bleeding lips since starting it.

Great at first...
After using this product for about one month, it started becoming very liquidy- almost like the consistency of oil. I did use this multiple times day, usually every 10-20 minutes on my lips. However it seems at one point it just became so liquidy and not like usual lip balms- therefore unable to continue using. It was good while it lasted!

very nice lip balm I wear overnight and sometimes reapply in morning until Im ready for lipstick. It doesn't asorb into skin much but it creates a nice barrier from the dry AC air so that I dont wake up as chapped as I normally would. Its very comfortable to wear much nicer than vaseline.

Avoid if you have fruit allergies
I had an allergic reaction to it. Made my lips swell and burn when I wore it overnight. I think it was the fermented papaya.

Does what it says!
It does wonder for your lips, but it a tad greasy. You only need a little bit for great lips.

PawPaw is Amazing
I was given PawPaw in New Zealand as after-care for a tattoo. I loved it so much I went back and bought more to bring home. Once I got home (Canada) and used more and more of it, I started to look for it here. Thankfully, Amazon.com carries it and I'll never run out. This stuff is amazing!

Great for tattoos!
A friend recommended this for helping with healing after getting a tattoo. No itching, peeling or anything at all!
